  1. Good! That with some soldering practice I can manage. xman
  2. Got this info from the Marantz website on the pro products, pro CD recorders FAQ http://www.d-mpro.com/users/folder.asp?FolderID=1516&Tab=FAQ "Another aspect of CD-R technology is the type of dye used for the reflectivity surface of the disc. Typically there are three different types of dye: Azo (Blue), Cyanine (Green/Blue), and Phthalocyanine (Gold). Customers have reported that discs using the Azo (Blue) type dye, are not reliable with the professional branded recorders. The Cyanine (Green/Blue) discs tend to perform the best, with the Phthalocyanine (Gold) discs being an intermediary choice between Azo and Cyanine. As far as what brands to purchase for your professional CD recorder, we recommend purchasing brands like: TDK, Fuji, Apogee Gold, HHB Gold, Sony, Kodak Gold, Klone, Philips, and Ricoh. In the past customers have reported problems with brands like Maxell, Memorex, Imation, Comp USA, Office Depot, Verbatim, and generic type (unbranded) CD-Rs. This info is for pro recorders so it may not be the same for home CD/rw players in a computer. Xman
  3. type in xlr in the search under 2 channel and you can find about 4 post on this topic, here is one http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=59975&forumID=68&catID=19&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={68C865AF-FD26-44B3-A8E7-AA25A326C515} Xman
  4. "EAC and Nero copy information so that it remains BIT PERFECT." Is this only to a CDR or to the harddrive? If only to a CDR then can I burn one song to the CDR and then put in another CD pick a second song and burn it to the CDR and continue until I've filled up the CDR or just have to burn the whole origanl CD to the CDR? If to the HD then when I want to make a playlist to burn I would choose from the nero library and burn to the CDR and it will be "BIT PERFECT"? Sorry if I'm frustrating some of you if I'm still not understanding the process. I just want to make a bit perfect playlist and burn it to A CDR. Once I figure that out then I will try it on both a "cheap" CDR and a "Gold" CDR and see if I can tell the difference and of course compared to recording straight from the cd player or SACD, DVD audio to the tape and compare all three. Also remember La Scalas reveil any bad recordings or lesser recordings. It is possible that even though my NAD C542 will play CDRs they may not play them very good. Is it possible that some players will read burnt CDRs better than others? Well got to run off to RAdio Shack and get some cassette stuff and soldering kit. Thanks for all the replies and advice!! Xman
  5. forgive my inexperience but which part am I going to replace. The litle orange dot or the brown part with all the wires conected to it? Xman
  6. Don't know. Not sure if it applies to the new Klipsch crossovers or the older models. Xman
  7. Not even if they sound better than cds!! people want to be able to skip to the next track imediately and all the other bells and whistles that come with cds. There might be some people who prefer the sound recorded on a very good cassette player but only a very few. I am curious how the SACD and DVD Audio sounds on cassette. Xman
  8. DGB I'll do the Naka test this weekend and post my results. I'm hoping Radio Shack has some decent cassette tapes to use. Xman
  9. Daddy Dee does the 2004 La Scalas have a tap #4 to change to a tap #3? This will lower the squawker level by 3db. I have dont this on LaScalas and Khorns with pleasing results. The bass, relative to the mids is increased. When I changed the tubes from Svetlana EL 34s to EH 6CA7s the bass blended much better with the midrange and highs. The midrange seemed smoother with the 6CA7s so if the mod makes the midrange even better I'll be one happy listener!! Xman
  10. I don't mind buying the kit since I want to learn anyway. This way if there are any other upgrades I might want to do later I'll know how to at least solder. Also depends on how much of a improvement these caps will make but even then I'll try it. Thanks again Robster for the caps. Craig thanks for the info and help I'll send a picture of the inside of the Cayin after I get of work. Xman
  11. Thanks for all the replies!! Robster I appreciate the offer I'll send you a email. Jorgen thanks for the info on the 90s. Is there a online store you use? Austin does not seem to have many stores that sells tubes that I know about. Craig I'm going to work right now so I'll send a pic after work. I have not done any type of soldering but I figure I can go down to Radio Shack and get the equipment and some practice material and learn. Once I've got it down I could put in the new ones. What do you recomend as good soldering equipment and what do I need to do the job? Thanks for the help I'll take the pic of the amp and send it in the morning. Xman
  12. I have not tried it on mine but yes I think that is right. The way I understand it is if the DVD is not encoded in DTS ES then it will only do 5.1 but I might be wrong. Does anyone know if DTS ES takes 5.1 and turns it into 7.1? If I had a larger living room I would set it up. Xman
  13. Thanks for all the replies I'm still learning about this aspect of using the computer so it may take awhile to proccess everything!! What I am trying to do is make a cd with songs from different cds and play it on my 2 channel stereo system. So how do I make a exact copy of a cd to my harddrive. I have a Sony dual layer DVD/RW player. I also have a version of Nero that came with the sony. Then after making exact copies to the harddrive how do I pick the songs I want to burn to a cd and burn exact copies of the songs onto the cd. Is it possible to take a DVD R/RW and then burn 2-4 hours of music onto it? Once I learn how to do this the cassette player will not be needed. Thanks again for all the info! Xman
  14. I think with some tube rolling I can live with the Cayin until late this year/early next year and some VRDs from Craig. What's the point of living if you don't get a shock out of life? Xman
  15. Never done any work on amps how hard is it to do? Xman
  16. Thanks for all the info!! I'm afraid I don't have the computer skill you all have. You are right about the cds I burn on the windows media. I have Nero installed and I'll see if I can get it to work. If I can get Nero working like you say then the tape sould not compare. Xman
  17. Thanks I'll give em a try. Xman
  18. Thanks I'll give em a try. Xman
  19. I have a Cayin TA 30 int tube amp that I use just as a amp. I had been using some Svetlana EL 34s with good result but when I turned up the volume past moderate listening levels the La Scalas just overpowered me with sound. It was loud as he!! and sounded like he!! TO ME. Tried some EH 6CA7s and bass was better otherwise not much else and went back to the EL 34s. If you are new to tube amps and tube rolling like me leave the new tubes you are trying in the amp for at least a week or two. I put the 6CA7s back in last week and they now sound much better than the EL34s. The EL34s midrange was too forward and overpowered the bass and highs. The 6CA7s midrange is much smoother sounding. They also have better bass that seems to blend better with the midrange and highs. Now when I turn up the volume to levels I did not use before it is not overpowering me and sounds very good. I think this is a reason why tube amps are great. With solid state amps you get one sound out of it and that is it. Yes you can do upgrades and mods on it to get a better sound but I don't know how to do those. I can pull out the old tubes and put in some different ones though. With tube amps and preamps you can have two or three different type of tubes and each gives the music a unique sound. What type of KT 88s or 6550 can you suggest I try? What brand of tubes would you say does bass, midrange, and highs excellent? Xman
  20. Went to EAC's website downloaded the file and how do you get it to run? I have saved all my cds onto my harddrive and make a burnlist and burn it onto a Cd. I will try CDR. "head, capstan and pinch-roller cleaner (Intraclean S-721H-2, 2oz @ $10)" where can I get this product at? Is the "head de-magnetizer" one of those cassettes you pop into the player? Also what is "De-natured alcohol" and where can I get it? Xman
  21. "well...... if you don't like the CD, the tape is gonna horrify you .... use Exact Audio Copy ...it's free" I don't know about the tape sounding worse the computer made cds sound pretty bad to me but that's why I'm doing this little experiment. Would I get "Exact Audio Copy" from download.com? Radio Shack might also have cassette tapes. Thanks for the input!! Xman
  22. If you liked Band of Brothers then rent Saints and Soldiers. It is based on events from World War 2. There are not any huge battles like in Saving Private Ryan but the battles have excellent surround sound effects. It also tries to give you a idea of how these soldiers would bond together and fight not for their country or glory but for each other. Xman
  23. How does it sound???????????? Mine for movies is very good! Music is very good also but my 2 channel set up is better. Xman
