  1. Thank you NosValves, I definitely need an integrated or a receiver amp. At this time there are these vintage components for sale near my town: Fisher 400 (receiver), Fisher KX-100, Scott 299A, Leak Stereo 20 (with its pre Leak Varislope), Fisher X-100, Scott D99 (two mono power amps). What can I buy?
  2. I listen moderately loud and I would a full body sound (preferably on the warm side than bright). My music is small jazz ensemble, acoustic and vocal.
  3. I would know if the Scott 299 amps have a good bass for my Corns. What the sweetest of the four models (a,b,c, or d)?
  4. I have selected these list of vintage amps for my new (1984) Cornwalls: HK Citation II, Eico HF-81 or Scott 299d, Fisher SA-100 . The HK is more expensive than the others. The only thing I want is a sweet (warm) sound. What's your preference?
  5. Today I have modified only one Cornwall like a Cornscala: - K55-V (spring terminal) with Cobraflex horn - Type B network modified only with the 7uf cap (I mod a Type E for this) Surprisingly the stock Cornwall (with the B3 and K53-K) sounds better. I have another pair of Cornscala that use a midrange-tweeter section like the AK2 and them sound better than the modified Cornwall. A few time ago I have sold a pair of Khorn with the AA network and now I stay with an AK2 Khorn. All that seem indicate that, for my taste, I prefer better the era of AK2, AK3 or B2- B3 than the A, AA (in Khorn) or B (in Cornwall). So, I'll try a modified pair of B3 (without the 2.5mH inductor in the midrange and with the known 7uf cap) with the K55-V. I think that them will sound better than the modified B.
  6. I use the Brimar (rectifier tube) in my Golden Tube Audio SE-300B and it is the best rectifier tube I have ever heard.
  7. BS, I hear the K55-M in my Khorn (with K400). The K53 is in the Cornwall. Bob, if the best Cornwalls are with the B2 + K55-V + K77 (alnico), I can swap the components from my Heresys (building a B2) and compare the two combos.
  8. Yes Bob, I would try the K55-M. Can I modify only the Midrange section of the B3 to convert it like the B2? Don't forget that I have the K55-M and the K77-M (not the alnico models). With these drivers is preferable the stock B2 network or a modified B3?
  9. Ok. I'll stay with this combination for now but I know the sound of the K55 and I think the K53 sounds a bit different (at the first impression the male and female voices seem less deep - with less body - on the K53).
  10. Hey Bob, is the K-600/K55 a best combo than mine?
  11. Hi Bob, my drivers are the K53-K and are bolted on the plastic horn. Is this a good combo? I have the K55s to replace them but not the horns (K-600?).
  12. I have bought them. Beautiful sound. My question is: are the K55s better than K53s? Who knows the differences between the two? What McIntosh is preferable? Lorenzo.
  13. Finally I have found a good pair of 1984's Corns in Italy at a good price for my Country (euros 1,200.00). I have seen that the components inside are: K33-E, K53-K with plastic horn, the square K77-M and the B3 network; the back panel is removable. The tag reports: CBLS (CBL) serial 8445449. The grilles have a gold color. Now my question to the experts is: must I change the squawker with the K55-M and metal horn or is preferable what I have? What the best amp for these speakers? SET 2A3, 300B or PP? Many thanks. Lorenzo.
  14. Paul, I have noticed no improvements to change the AK2 with the AK3. Now I have the AK2 in my system and I am very happy with them. Lorenzo.
  15. You have done a very good work and looks fine. What is the size of the port?
  16. Thanks TheEar, I'll contact DrWho for the cabinet.
  17. Because of the high shipping costs to Italy, I would know if I can build a good cabinet for a single JL 13W7 that I can buy from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.it/JL-Audio-13W7-13-5-Subwoofer-HUGE-W7-HIGH-END-SUB-2004_W0QQitemZ250049786416QQihZ015QQcategoryZ18805QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Who have a good plan? And what amp I have to use : can I use my DT-300 (RCM Akustik - Detonation)? I would use it for the Khorn. The Ear, I know you like the JL sub; can you help me? Thanks. Lorenzo
  18. Ok, I know the problem to find a good sub for the Khorn; but my question was: is the RW-12 in the same league of the Vented Shiva?
  19. No, I use the Shiva for the Home theater (with the Heresy I) and now I want to buy the RW-12 to use it with my Khorn (considering the fact that I listen to a low level sound - no loud). I have used the EBS Shiva project (142 .5 liter - 5 cubic foot net) and the dimensions are: a cube of 22.5" for side. The port is 4.65" large and 18.10" long. While the amp was a 250 Watts from Parts Express. If the RW-12 is as good as the Shiva I'll buy it because my DIY project was good (at my usual volume sound) for the Khorn.
  20. I have built the Shiva vented project (142,5 l.) two years ago (I have paid about 550.00 euro with the shipping costs from USA) and now I can buy the RW-12 new at a fantastic price (euro 350.00) from Germany. Now I would Know if the RW-12 is in the same league of my DIY project of the Shiva ( I have tuned my Shiva to 20 Hz - is this a good value?). Many thanks. Lorenzo.
  21. So, if I re-insert the 47uf capacitor I can use this configuration without to change anything (in the woofer section)? Is that correct? Thanks to Bob for this scheme of the TH-SR-2 crossover (naturally I have modified the mid-high section to obtain the Type E).
  22. I have built a pair of Heresy (K22-K55V-K77) and have used a modified TH-SR-2 crossovers and now the only difference respect the type E is the inductor value (4mh instead of 2,5mh). I would know if there are problems using this different value. Many thanks. Lorenzo.
  23. Who knows if the front panel (of the bass bin) in the Khorn is removable? I need to transport it for re-paint and I don't want to carry the entire bass bin. Lorenzo.
