I purchased my Pioneer 42'' in January of 2007, it had phenominal picture then just as it does now. I will note that it's the 4270HD which is the series just before the KURO line, I enjoy gaming as much as I do HT and I have played countless Xbox/PS3 games on it using the most demanding contrast setting the TV has, and never once have I had a burn in issue. It's a shame Pioneer stopped making the best tv's money can buy, but when an average joe can buy an lcd and even now a plasma thats bigger that still performs very well and yet pay half as much, their sales obviously couldn't compete. I've seen alot of nice Panasonics and Samsungs lately and the new LED's look nice too.

It's about -50 right now so I'm going to wait till the weather warms up a bit to go see my dealer lol. I understand how all of this has to work, but the biggest question I have (and no one seems to know) is how much better do the new decoders sound (DTS HD, DD TruHD) over the originals (DTS and DD)? I should call someone at Klipsch or something, someone has to know.

Thank you for your opinions guys, I was thinking a bit today at work about what I should do. When it comes to ht I am very picky, but I don't believe in busting my wallet for such a small gain if I can help it. Sometimes I wonder why I even own a PS3 because nearly all my games are played on Xbox 360, anyways... Ideally I think I would like a Pioneer Elite receiver and bluray to complete my system. If I was to trade in or sell my receiver/dvd player/ps3 I'd have some money to work with. I'm still not sure but I'm going to go down to my dealer and explain all of this and see if I can workout a deal on something. I like to have matching equipment and I'm almost ocd about the tidyness, organization, and performance of my system. I also want to mention that I think the new high definition decoders are only transferable over an HDMI cable from what I read. Is the difference worth it or not? Well I wish I could talk face to face with someone who knows all there is to know, the sample and transfer rates of dts hd compared to the old core dts are quite larger and you would think sounds much different. I have yet to really test the sound a/b like. I'm going to my dealer tomorrow and I will come up with something, there is nothing wrong with the sound my system has, most people I have over to watch films or what not with think I'm nuts to have purchased all of it... haha, it's a passion and a hobby, thats all I tell them.

Alright people I've had just about enough of this bs.. All I have been striving for is to be able to relax and enjoy some movies and music in either pcm uncompressed, dts hd, or dolby true hd to their full extent. I have a Pioneer Elite receiver thats about two years old and it does every possible litte thing I want it to except carry audio over hdmi. sigh............ First I go to my local dealer and he hands me a $1200 new elite to try out because I see it supports the new decoders (my current does not) so I go home and unhook my carefully organized system to hook up this expensive piece of metal that has merely 1 or 2 features more. Once set up and calibrated I pop in ZZ Top live in Texas and get all warm and fuzzy to read "DTS HD" on the screen, but to my dissapointment, nothing appears. I then realize that my source of bluray's comes from a Playstation 3 and therefore the system will be working backwards. (The PS3 needs a firmware update to support DTS HD which means it has to be sent via PCM to the receiver, which means the receiver won't decode the signal). After I switched the audio sending from bitstream to pcm I proceed to listen to some goodness. In a nutshell, the PS3 decodes and the receiver plays, all I had to do was hit select on the PS3 and notice the nice high trasfer rate beside DTS HD . So I think to myself (not realizing my older receiver can't transfer audio over HDMI) that I can kind of cheat here, because I don't have a conventional bluray player that requires a receiver to decode, I can save money and keep my receiver and just use the PS3 with the proper settings. So after spending another hour or so reconnecting my old equipment, I proceed to watch some more dtshd sharp dressed man, and to my surprise, NO AUDIO. So as it sits a brand new 09 receiver lays in a box in my entertainment room with a nice 1200 dollar price tag, and the only thing I need is the simple ability to trasfer audio over hdmi. I could keep the new receiver and give my dealer money as often as I please with little to no interest (advantage of spending 10 grand over a few years there), or I could take it back and make do. Is it worth all the trouble and money just to hear some less compressed sound? Well I'd like to think so considering I listen to Klipsch for God sake. It just never failes that you get screwed somehow, I paid 900 for my receiver when I got it new in 07, now I'd be lucky to get $350. I'm not usually one to subdue to cost and inconvinence but I've worked hard to have an extraordinary system.

Can anyone here tell me if they have experienced the difference between normal dts and dts hd ma? Alot of blu-ray's have this now and I'm close to buying a new receiver that decodes them.

I don't know if you guys have heard but future shop is now selling the Klipsch Reference line. Anyway's like others on this board I take pride in the purchase and ownership of my speakers and my home theater, and I believe that being an enthusiast of Klipsch, especially at my age, that it's something of an above average hobby and interest (as in not for everyone). When I walked into Future Shop yesterday and read a large cardboard standup reading "Now featuring the awesome sound of Klipsch" I was frankly quite upset. Here in the small city of Brandon (50,000) most people are your average buy a big sony tv and in a box sound system and call it a day and while futureshop brings in alot of people because they are the biggest electronics store here, their salesmen are completley out to mars when it comes to knowing and understanding the facts. Klipsch was orginally sold by a smaller downtown outlet that not everyone knew about, and the people buying Klipsch were people who had alot of money and knew a damn thing or two about home audio, not to mention the owner and his son I have developed a very good business relationship with, I love the feeling of going in somewhere and getting respect from a few guy's who know you've spent your hard earned dollar at their store. My concern with all of this is that now every person and their aunt, sister, brother, daughter etc etc is going to be talked into buying Klipsch at a higher than retail price from a complete fail of a salesman and will be walking out with a very dynamic and well crafted piece of art that will no doubt be set up unproperly and treated as though it was a durabrand speaker from walmart. To further it I can already see in my head the people who walk in with a big wallet and small brain, buy a whole Klipsch system, walk out and tell everyone they have these new great fantastic speakers that they got such a deal on! "NO, not going to happen", the first joe that try's telling me about his new purchase and rambles off on some stupid RMS power rating is going to get a broken nose. Call me conceited, call me selfish, I personally believe that the people buying Klipsch should be people who really have a deep interest and passion for it's signature sound. I would like to add that this was not inteded to be a rant, but for me personally, Klipsch was a not so well known brand around here, because the only people buying it were the people who gave a care. I guess from a financial stand point, this will do good for Klipsch, but it was a nice feeling owning a discrete little highend product and amazing friends and family members with the playback of so many movie and music scenes. Not an oppurtunity that should be available to dummies.

Picked it up on Blu Ray yesterday, it's awesome!!! Now I just need a new receiver to decode DTS HD master audio!!

Hey peoples, for whatever reason i didn't think to realize that when I've been enjoying my 1080p blurays' on my tv, that my receiver which doesn't have the "new" dd and dts decoders has been simply down converting to the core dts and dd. So I went to my local store and brought home this years Pioneer Elite vsx 91 txh to see if I could play them. I use a ps3 for blurays because my brother got it for christmas and frankly I don't want to dish out a grand for the Elite one at this time, the problem with that is the ps3 doesn't have any support for dts-hd, just dt-hd. People on the forums are saying that even if they release a firmware update for the support it will have to send it out as lpcm and will therefore sound less rich and full as bitstreamed would. I'd just like to hear this dts hd with it's high bit rate on my system compared to normal dts that i'm used too because I'm already enjoying it on my plasma, I'm sure my stereo would offer a noticable difference. Has anyone heard these new decoders? I'm just kind of confused, even called pioneer but I got a bonehead who didn't know what I was talking about.

Alright well a little while ago I posted about having troubles with my RSW-12 but i'll start from the start and put down as much as I can explain. A few months ago my sub had just started cutting out on me while playing and eventually it just all of the sudden stopped playing at all. I took the sub down to my authorized dealer and it wasn't a while until I got a call and they couldn't explain why but the woofer just stopped working so they ordered a new one from Klipsch. So I brought the sub home a week or so later all excited to have bass again and all of the sudden I just notice an almost distorting sound coming from the driver, like a click or just the woofer hitting too hard (difficult to explain). The problem is that the volume wasn't all that loud, (I usually keep the sub at about 1 o'clock on the dial) and the receiver was set to about -25 to -20. It was just horrible because I don't ever recall the sub doing this before and I'm not hard on my equipment, I was listening to .38 special which is not heavy thick LFE action. So not long after this I took the sub back to my dealer and tried to explain the issue, the told me to leave it and there and they would look at it. About a week later I get a call back with them explaing that the cylinder the drives the woofer behind the cone was off center and thats what I was hearing, so they ordered a another replacement woofer which was in another week and some later. I just got the sub back earlier this week and I still notice this sound which leads me to believe it's distorting. I'm becoming ever frustrated because I don't ever remember the sub doing this before and my gut just tells me something isn't right. I shouldn't have to be constantly adjusting the sub volume from music to movies to games and always having to check to see if it's distorting because to me it's just not loud enough for a $2000 sub to fail. I'm going to get a guy from my dealer to come over and listen to exactly what I hear and see what he says, I'm also going to call Klipsch on monday and just see what they have to say, it's still covered by warranty but imho something is just wrong. Any ideas?

Hey there peoples, so my sub decided to go out on me a few weeks ago and just all of the sudden stopped working. I took it down to my local dealer the other day to have them check it out assuming a wire was just came loose but they said that it just died, so they ordered a new one from Klipsch. I got it back just a few days ago and started listening to some music and I begin to notice some sort of a rattle coming from the newly replaced driver, at first I thought it was being pushed too hard but now that I look at it it's not even that loud. I have the volume set to about 1/2 and the low pass enabled at about 85hz, and as soon as i turn it up just a bit it starts making an awful rattle at the back thats really noticeable. I don't recall it making this sound before it crapped out on me and it definately has not been abused. It doesn't make sense to me that it would make this noise if it was needing to be broken in, I just don't know what it is, I'll probably take it back down to them soon enough I just wanted some input from you guys first, thanks.

Hey guys, haven't been on here for awhile.. it's good to come back to this place! Anyways, I sat down to listen to some ZZ Top this afternoon and I noticed a lack of bass. Checked the RSW's connections etc the usual and when I touched the rear woofer it kicked in. So I stepped back and wondered what the heck happened, a few seconds later same thing, so I go to the rear looked again, touched it and it kicked in. I'm getting a bit worried at this point... step back again and off she goes for good. I remember when I first bought the sub there was a lose wire that caused it to not work but my dealer took it and repaired it and it's been fine since, this is well over a year ago now. Any ideas? I'll likely just take it down to him when I get a chance but thought I'd run it on here first. Thanks.

I'm feeling great, two days ago I brought home all my new stuff and all I can is wow. RF-82's, Pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV, DV-490, 4270HD plasma tv, and of course a tv stand with some new wire and cables, kept my RSW-12 from the last setup. I will post some pictures very soon guys.

Well the coolest car I have ever owned is also only the second car I have ever owned lol. 1993 Camaro Z28. 350 LT1 with a 6 spd/3.23 rear end. K&N CAI, Flowmaster American Thunder, removed cats with BBK headers, B&M short throw, Vortech aluminum intake elbow.

Well with my new setup soon on the way I'm considering steping up to Elite from the normal Pioneer line. My setup will consist of RF-82's and my RSW-12 from my last setup; I'm wondering what you all think of the VSX-80TXV and the DV-46AV? I was originally going to go with the VSX-1016TXV and the DV-490V. Any opinions on these products would be appreciated. Thanks.

If I do remember correctly the RF-5 was $2500 retail compared the the RF-3's $1400 retail, if were talking the same price jump here between the 82 and 63 then I don't think I want to spend it regardless of the 3rd woofer, I can get the 82's for a grand even (cdn) which sounds mighty fine to me. Heres another question, how does the new 82 compare to my RF-3ll's..?

Hey everyone, man it's been so long since i've been on here...[:|]. How the heck is everyone? I mean those who remember me haha. Well to tell you all the truth for the last almost 2 years I havn't had the freedom of enjoying my Klipsch properly, my setup has been jammed up in a crowded pathetic living room so listening experience isn't the same as when I first got my setup back in 03, but i'm moving in two months so all will change. It's kinda funny, you ever walk into your local speaker store or what have you knowing very well you don't "NEED" anything but have to glance? Well I did that and lol... I started thinking. I have the RF-3ll's and oh how I do love the black cones, but thats dead and gone I figure it's time to upgrade so I've decided to sell my towers to my good friend for more then a fair price. So heres what I'm thinking, "RF-82's" basically the reinvented RF-3ll's and I can get em for the same I payed for the RF's which is great; I need some help though here guys...I have an old H/K 125 receiver and am thinkin about the new Pioneer 1016k, any opinions on that receiver? Also, the more important question.. and well, being that the RF-83's are the pricey flagship I'm not going all out for those, I wonder though.. the RF-63s? would three 6.5's be better then two 8's? I havn't had the luxury of hearing the 63's. So I dunno, tell me what you all think, and nice to be back on here..been a loooooonnnnngggg time []

Hmmm, well I am trying to understand this from your point of view, I did manage to change my setup and, from what tests I did run it sounded alot better; I did flick the the phase which made a noticeable difference. The one problem I do have here guys is that my setup is in my mom's living room, she hates my stereo and can't stand when I rearrange things to try and incoporate a good soundstage. Further more when I am able to crank my stereo it's usually only once or twice a week so being able to move the sub around the room and experiment is a bit difficult. Mr.Mcgoo you said something about combined effort at 40-80hz and the 125 with the RF-3's being the problem? Could you elaborate. I did find that leaving the speakers on "Large" covered a bit of the higher freq bass notes that the RSW-12 didn't like to play which is why I left them. Until I can move out into my own place with my buddies and we can actually set this expensive stuff up I'll be in a bit of jam. I am going to continue some other tests, mainly dts because thats what seems to push my RSW-12 farther then it wants to go.

Hey guys, again havn't been on for a good while. I've been stuck on my new wheels (1993 Camaro Z28) and had to actually brush the dust off my setup.. Anywho, I'm not sure If I'm entirely satisfied with my RSW-12. I don't know it just doesn't seem to be enough for me, sure it plays fairly well but when it comes down to it, it's too easy to push past it's limit. (eg, watching Band of Brothers in dts, the scene where they jump over Normandy). I have my receiver set to -18, the sub is a little over half and it just sounds as if it's thumping too hard. And for fast paced bass like techno is doesn't seem to keep up or play as well, simply put "it's not loud enough". As a matter of fact I'm changing my setup tonight so my RF-3 ll's and my RSW-12 are all agasint 1 wall facing out. I did read that putting your sub at the back of the room is not a good idea and mine is current in the back corner behind the couch. But enough with that, the sub is in super mint condition, I've only had it for a few months probably isn't even broken in entirely. Paid about 1900 cdn and shouldn't have a problem getting rid of it if thats what I decide to do. I'm thinkin about some SVS, I don't know what model yet but something for a similar price range that I can crank the snot out of and sound great. Alot of people on here go with different subs then Klipsch' ones so I might just venture down that same path. Anyones two cents on this would be appreciated.

Okay wait, let me say that I'm 18 and you sure as hell won't see me listening to most of the music that has come out in the past 5 years to the present (Pop, Boy Bands, crap like Britney Spears) no sir, I really enjoy things like AC/DC, The Who, Van Halen and I like to listen to them everyday for at least an hour or 2. I knew this would happen, I list two bands: godsmack and disturbed, and people my dads age would start putting them down cause their new. Why compare them to Zepplin? Their not trying to be zepplin, the new fad for heavier music today is depression and anger..where as 25 years ago it was about girls, alcohol, and having a good time. Times change and unfortunatley old school rock is going out of style, although I will fight to stop it ... And even though I prefer AC/DC over those two I mentioned, it doesn't mean their not good bands, their excellent IMHO, all music has it's places and audiences it appeals too, I've just never been one for now a days tunes in general. I truely like my taste in music because when ever it boils down to the type of music I listen to with my friends, I always push for that old time rock and have successfully turned fellow peers over to things like AC/DC.

In my generation we consider bands like Disturbed or Godsmack to be Hard Rock/Alternative, which makes me wonder why AC/DC etc is considered hard? I would just call that rock. Anyway I thought I would say both of those bands lead singers "Sully Erna" of Godsmack and "David Drainman" of Disturbed have pretty wicked voices.' Just my two cents, but other then that AC/DC's Brian Johnson, who I like alot better than Bon has some good screams in their 80's albums like "Back in Black" and "For Those About to Rock.." before his voice stars to go How about a thread of wicked guitarists Angus takes that one hands down..

Well I appreciate all the input, and I apologize for I ment to say that the PCM sounds better to me then the dts mix of HFO, as with movies in dts all I really notice is louder deeper bass then if it was at the same volume as DD. I was just confused because I was reading some older posts of what movies/music to show off on your system and HFO (dts) was chosen so I had to ask some questions. Thanks
