  1. Could I get some recommendations from the collective brain trust. I am putting RB-5 speakers driven by a Sony DA50ES in the new house. Eventuall I will add matching components for 5.1. Initially though, basic background music will be the rule, music will always be more important for the sub than movie effects. The "room" is the whole back of the house 18' X 40'(family room to kitchen). One 18' wall is prewired for speakers and sub. Given this, which of the products by SVS or Hsu would fit the bill? I'm leaning toward the STF-2 or VTF-2. $500.00 is a very magic number. Thanks

    Sub-oops?

I'm pulling together a 5.1 system for the new house. I got a good deal on some RB-5's from dealer stock. Also purchased a nicely kept Sony DA50ES from a friend. I will add the center and rear from Klipsch line later. I purchased a new in box KSW 12 to be the system sub. The system will work mostly in musical mode as stereo w/sub. I just got off the Hsu web site, OOPs, have I made an error here? The KSW 12 is unopened should I sell and if so which Hsu sub would fill the bill. Are they that good?
  3. Thanks for the help, I looked again, K-22-R are the speakers that I just removed from the cabinet. They have been in there since I purchased the Heresy's NIB way back when. I was clear with parts that I had Heresy 1's and wanted the appropriate k-22 replacement. I will be on the phone tomorrow you betcha!
  4. I have a pair of Heresy 1 speakers. I called the factory for replacement woofers, they said they had two left, I snapped them up. I just unpacked them. The woofers in the speakers are marked K-22-R; the ones sent by Klipsch are marked KP-22-E. They look different. Is this the wrong speaker, or the same sonically, just updated, or a screw up all the way around? Help!
  5. I think that all makes sense, the rope caulk part has me confused. Are you suggesting wrapping the outside of the squawker?
  6. garymd thanks, I saw your zebrawood, very nice. The other day I was tossing LaScala vs. Cornwall about. I stepped off my unfinished basement in the new house (va near s.md)the main room about 20'X30'. Future downtown LaScalaville?
  7. I took the Heresy 1's apart for refinishing. I've done this once before many years ago. I noticed there was no batting inside. Is it my imagination or is there supposed to be some sort of fiberglass batting inside, if so what kind and where? Also since they're apart are there any mild refinements I can make before I reassemble them, ie caulk, braces, insulation, wires, ect...Not attempting to reinvent the wheel, just tweak. Have new K-22's on the way from the factory to replace the ones my late dog took a leak on years ago. The old woofers were in good shape but these were the last two K-22's in stock so I hopped on them. I am having the speakers veneered in maple to match the new furniture, will try to post pictures when complete.
  8. I made a set of risers years ago that my heresy's sat on and neede no attachment. The risers were 1" small than the speaker diameter on front and sides but in back of the speaker extended 2" to the rear and 2" up forming a lip to catch the rear of the speaker, like a capital 'L' at an angle. Worked perfectly was removable and caused no injury to the bottom of the speaker. With the speaker against a wall the look was seamless.
  9. Does anyone know of a retailer in old MacIntosh equipment? Would like to investigate to compliment my MA-5100. Thanks.
  10. Cure my ignorance, an ALK crossover is what, available where, easily done, worth it? Available for Heresy's? Thanks for the multiple responses! My wife and I are building a new house ready by spring, she is excited about the house, I am juiced about big rooms and Heresy's. I admit it, I am a Klipsch nut.
  11. I have a new pair of RB-5's that will play my old vinyl with the old Philips 212 and a MacIntosh MA-5100 Integrated Amp., up in the Bedroom. The Heresy's will run off a 5 year old Sony 50ES series receiver, with a KSW-12. Eventually I will add suround and center to the mix. The Cornwalls/LaScala's will get electronics seperates (integrated amp or power/pre seperates)all their own (any suggestions?)as a stereo set up. Some classic old MacIntosh would be nice, the Mac MA-5100 sounds very sweet thru the Heresy's, but I will need more juice.
  12. I listen to everything, I love music and I know how instruments are supposed to sound. Jazz, Bluegrass, Classic to Sinatra. It is all about accuracy, depth, dynamics, nuances.
  13. I've had my Heresy's for over 20 years now and am currently rehabilitating the cabinets so the can sit in my new family room and perform. I will be finishing the basement next (a nice large, albeit sonically bright, area). I will be shopping for either used Cornwalls or LaScalas. I realize this is a subjective question, but what is the sound quality difference between the two. Or is there one. This is tough because I can't just pop into a showroom and preveiw Cornwalls. My freind has LaScala's and they are open and dynamic are the Cornwalls as open and accurate in their sound, will I be able to get away without a sub? The Corwalls seem to have a much lower bass ability, I assume because of porting, do they sacrifice anything because of this? One way or the other they are both legendary. I must admit one day I am leaning LaScala, the next Cornwall.
  14. Does anyone have a recommendation for speaker stands big enough for my Heresy I's. I'd like to get them up about 12" or so w/ a slight angle. I would like something a bit nicer than a stack of phone books. I also need something that is relatively secure as I have three kids and they are boys (and all that entails). happy new year
  15. My heresy speakers have the consecutive #s of 115W087/115W088. I can't remeber when I purchased them. Can someone clue me on date of manufacture. Also do you all think my KSW-12 sub can keep up with them? These are my old war horses. My old departed dog took a boy dog leak on the woofers about eight years ago so I am taking the old woofers out as spares and have the LAST TWO K-22's on the way from Hope and will be back in business shortly. The cabinets were birch, I am having them veneered in maple by a furniture maker and am curios as to the finish that is recommended. Happy New Year!!!!!
