  1. Here's an easy one. I'll try to scan section of the factory drawings next.
  2. JC, I saw the other thread where you found the plans. What I have are the factory drawings sent to me by University in the 80's . It shows more details than what you saw on the other thread, screw locations, glue blocks, braces etc, etc. the problem is it is 13 x 24. I can scan sections of it tonight or tomorrow, and I can copy the whole thing, actually two sheets on Tuesday at work and mail them to you (and anybody interested).
  3. At first, I tried it on recordings that have plenty of bass, mostly recordings that I have been listening to since the late 60's...It is the sure winner. Then I tried it on recordings that have low bass levels, like the Beatles first records (I play the CD's). Studio rules limited their bass levels on recording during those days. I think McCartney would love to hear his bass lines on this one, the notes are very distinct and you can follow his playing style. My SK never played like this. It is a whole new experience.
  4. Plenty of bass!! Comparing it to my SK, which has an EVM 15L and 6 x 13 throat, it is no contest . I t shakes the house! Unfortunately, the SK is the only one I can compare it to right now. Even recordings that originally have low bass levels shine on this one. Let me see if I can find a picture that suits what you're looking for.
  5. While I'm on it, here's the other SK, in a very good corner. The tops for both units are EVM SM120 midhorns, University T-30's and EVM T-35 tweeters. The ALK crossovers are the universal A's at 400 and 6000hz crossover points.
  6. So right now it is taking up the corner where the right channel SK used to be. The SK will be in the garage for a while.
  7. Borrowed the top and ALK crossover from my SK and fired it up. Everything that "they" (Q-man and others in the Audio Asylum) say about it is true.
  8. Took it home, cleaned it up a bit (the thing smelled like it was kept in a garage for a long time) and installed a University C15w.
  9. It came with an Acoustic Baton crossover. I got the enclosure for the value of the crossover, a real bargain.
  10. D-man asked me to start a new thread on my University Classic, so here it is, Dana. My plan was to build a pair of University Deans, like Q-man's. Q-man generously sent me copies of the Dean plans and pictures during construction, of the one he built. Then I saw this empty Classic enclosure on ebay. I couldn't resist my curiosity as to what it sounds like, so to make a short story longer, I won (I was the only one who bid on it). Julie and I made a trip to Asheville, NC the day after Thanksgiving and picked it up (about 420 miles from Virginia Beach one way). Here are some pictures, the first three were taken by the ebay seller, salvagethrift. This is with the woofer access cover removed. Throat size is 6 x 13.
  11. The red color looks familiar, but can't make out the model number....901's? 501's?
  12. This one is my schematic of the first one, the additional info based on a letter I received from a generous SK owner.
  13. Here's one. Let me find the reverse side.
  14. That would give me more than enough space for Tootsie rolls!
  15. I don't have much room to place my coils and my only option is position 4. And I wasn't sure if it was ok. Now I know. Thanks a lot,
  16. How about iron core or ferrite inductors? What kind of arrangement do you suggest?
  17. I knew it. I found that picture on the internet, I lost the link, but I had the feeling that something's wrong with it. Thanks a lot, Al.
  18. I thought positions 4 and 5 of the attached picture are O.K. Al, didn't you use this coil placement (4 and/or 5) in one of the early ESNs? The other question I have, and the answer is probably in this picture ....Let's say I needed a 2.4 mH inductor but have a 2 and a .4mHy (just an example), same wire gauge . I know that inductances are additive when series connected, but how do I mount them relative to one another?
  19. Dean, Is there a schematic of your crossovers somewhere on this forum? I am interested. .
  20. The original name was Claude Cooper. I changed it to Craig on purpose. Should have changed Cleveland to Michigan, but it will break the pattern. I didn't want to be fully responsible for this! (LOL!)
  21. Dana, JBL has The Harkness C40. It might cause confusion. I vote for the Danahorn.
  22. That's why it looked hand drawn! AutoCAD is really easy. I ignored the thousand icons, and learned the command shortcuts.. L to draw a line, C for circle, T for trim, E for erase, etc. etc. You really can't get any simpler than that. I have drawn in AutoCAD some of the drivers/horns that we deal with on the forum...511b, 811b, EV T-35, T-30, EV 15L and 15B's, 1824, SM120, University C15W, cobreflex, etc. (mostly drivers/horns that I use/have). I can share the files to anybody who needs them. I also have some horn design ideas roughly drawn in AutoCAD that need to be fine tuned and action taken to materialize. Maybe someday, I can also apply for a patent for one. I sure know who to ask for guidance.
  23. I really couldn't tell if your drawings were hand drawn or cad drawn. I thought you must be a very good drafter using pro drafting tools or a cad software I'm not familiar with. Either way, they turned out pretty good. Where do you get that software? BTW, I'll post pictures of my Classic when my son returns home with the digital camera. Armando
  24. John, Much has been written about the Klapperxovers...especially when they first came out. .do a search. I think there are also users comments in Al's website.
