  1. Thanks for the info Daddy Dee! I'll check them out. Dave
  2. Hello everyone, Last week I found not one but two HKs at the local Salvation Army. A HK model Three thirty (spelled out not numbers) with a slighly scratched up wood case. And a very good condition HK430. The Three Thirty did not apear to have a right channel when listeing with the "tech" so he sold it for $4.00, It does work, but one of the switches (I forget which) needs to be toggeled a bit. The HK430 did not light up (just needs bulbs) but works fine otherwise and was gotten for the princely sum of $5. I was very stoked and tried hard not to seem to exicted. I had never found anything of worth at the Salvation Army up to then. LOL As for the HK430, I hooked it up to my Fortes and they sound great! A very rich and full sound is the best I could describe them. Very happy and you guys are right about these underrated little receivers. I found a Sansui 9090DB a couple of days later (best luck month of the year!!) and while it blows the HK away in feature goodies, power and pizaz, it doesn't sound quite as good on the Fortes as the "little" HK. Question, How do you change the bulbs on the dial face? I can't figure out out to disasembe the front? Any hints would be appreceated. Thanks and happy listening to all!
  3. Dave .....Your a voice of the sane instead of the voice of the insane. Maron Horonzak My wife would disagree with you. "Don't inhale" I love that.
  4. Jerohm:, Popbumper Thanks for the info. I have heard of the Acadamy, I hear it costs a pretty penny. Klipsch would do well to build a center channel with the same tibre matching for older Klipsch speakers. Seems there's a good market for them. Hint hint...
  5. Hello and Welcome from one Newbe to another! This forum has a great bunch of guys from the responses I've gotten to my intro, and in reading past threads. Now is the time we sit quitely and listen to the masters teach their wisdom - fellow grasshopper. I've heard a couple of tube amps and I regret it profoundly.... My SS gear sounds lifeless and steril now. Damm my ears!! Ignorance is Bliss. Dave
  6. The usual suspects Stereophile and The Albsoulte Sound are my monthly poisons. I enjoy the "budget and value" gear reviewed, and oogle at the pretty pictures. Stereophile has the more entertaining reader's mail. The Uber $$$$ stuff makes me feel small and insignificant in the universe. I don't want to start a flame war here, but $15,000 for a pair of interconnects seems a wee bit on the looney side, not to mention the mega $$ gear that goes with it. I have no knowledge of whether one can percieve differences between a very good cable/wire/amp etc., and a "Golden Ear" awardee, but I'll leave that for the more financially fortunate and those who have a greater need for more, better, and more again philosophies. Only my goofy opinion, No insults intended.
  7. popbumper Thanks for the welcome and Hello! We are two lucky guys to have such great wifes and speakers. I dream of finding another pair of Fortes, Heresys or other such finds; Odds are I used up my luck. Let the saving begin. I also have a Jeep Fetish/addiction/sickness. Too many hobies too little $$. LOL. Question for you, Do the Heresy IIs match the sound of the Fortes? I thought origingal Heresy's had the same speakers. Got to start planning for my future HT speaker system.
  8. Hello again to all and thanks for the welcomes. Benesesso, as far as I know, no relation to your buddy. I used to fuel C-130's as a base contracter at Kirtland AFB here in Albuquerque, but thats about all. I would loved to have a ride though. I'm sure it's not as glamorous as it seems. Funney about the wife factor. I got a great wife who loves music, our Fortes and doesn't mind me spending a small amount of our meger disposable income on gizmos and such. She thinks sitting in front of a computer reading post is a little "funny". No ones perfect.
  9. IndyKlipschFan, Your right about the nice things to do in the Albuquerque area. It has it's problems like any place, but we do love the mountains, the food, and the sceanary. I only have three children, see post above, and they do love Finding Nemo, its one of their favorites. fini and dkp, as much as I love my Forte's, My wife is definetly my greatest find. I have never thought of myself as luck, but I guess I should rethink that theory. I know what you mean about a garage bulging. I keep meaning to get the digital camera and start E-baying. Maybe one of the cars could acctually fit it the garage some day. Tom, you crack me up "WHAP"!! I've read some of the threads you've refer to. Great entertainment, but not what I'm here for nor is it good for the forum. I would love to look into a used Denon, but need to cool my credit card for a while. A big Hello to ALL of you. I look forward to jumping into the Klipsch Clan.
  10. Hey, I know what a "steal" those speakers are now! I hope to save a bit of money and try to fix up my old Curtis Mathes if it's not too $$$. David (Seadog), it is a shame about your parents CM, it is a really nice piece of solid furniture and decor, if nothing else. Rick, I'm "working" right know, so when I get home, I'll check my owners manual for the type of tubes. I think your correct, and your right about the kids loving the Klipsch. My two and a half year boy says "speakers make pretty music". Coudn't say it better my self. My daughters like do dance and sing with the music load. My poor wife. J.4knee, I have indeed discovered E-bay, So far I've used it for unloading my old Bose, and some other stuff I've found at thrift stores. I have a bad feeling my wallets going to get lighter real soon. I'm already dreamin of tubes, and or a Forte/Heresy souround system. Dave
  11. thebes, Five kids, oh Lord no! My family is my world, but I would be a very tired and poor man with FIVE Children. I should have said 3 wonderful children, a most perfect wife, and myself.
  12. Thanks everyone, for the hardy welcome guys! I do indeed consider myself very lucky to have found these speakers. I can't get over how good they sound. (even with my old Kenwood). Collin, I would love to buy my wife a nice tube amp . Will have to wait a while for that LOL. Thebes, I listen to 2-channel most of the time, but the family does enjoy watching a movie together, with the Forte's hooked up of course! William, I checked out your post, thanks for the great info. I have a 1960's Curtas Mathus Console Tube Reciever that works (somewhat). It's a real pretty peice of furnature right now. It's sound output is real low, and stations come in for a while and then go out again later. The turntable needs a new needle. Will have to start looking for an honest tube tech in my local to see if I can get it working properly. Am curious as to how the Fortes would sound hooked up to it. The console speakers in it sound ok, and the tubes sure do have a warm, smooth sound. I'll try to scan the schematics and owners manual with some pics in a later post. Boy I need to moderate the length of my post. Dave, Happy owner of a rare find
  13. Hello Everybody, I've been lurking at this great forum for over a month, and its past time I say Hello. My dreams of a great sounding home system started some years back when I first heard a "high end" system at al local retailer. A year ago, I subscribed to TAS and Stereophile. A pity I modestly support a family of five, with my wife full time in Collage to actually afford their highly recommended interconnects, let alone the latest Wilson/Halcro etc. systems. LOL Being the frugal sort of guy I am, my wife and I often hit the local Goodwills to see if any bargains are there. I've found some AR3a's in need of refoaming, some nice little Baby Advent IIs in great shape and some other misc. finds, but a month ago while sitting at the computer at work (doing work of course), I get a call from my wife saying she saw a "big pair of nice looking speakers, K..something. KLH? Klipsh?, I say? Yes, Klipsch might be it she says. Too bad the stores closed now. That evening I gain a couple more grey hairs as I imagine what these speakers may be. $150 a pair my wife said, pretty pricey for Goodwill, and for our budget at the time. First thing in the morning I hop in my Jeep to the store. There still there. 1986 oiled Forte's!! Very good shape, minus a few light nicks and scratches. $150/pair. I try to look bored for the store employees. Being the cheap bastard I am, ask the manager if he might sell them a little cheaper. "Depends on how much cheaper", he says. I'll take them for $120, says El cheapo..... Sounds good the manager says !!! Klipsch Forte's in Jeep, one happy bastard. I love these speakers. So does my wonderful wife. She knows we could probably get about $400-$500 on E-bay for them, but says we should keep them.. They sound so good , she says. Shes definitely a keeper too. I have a 1990s model Kenwood receiver that Im sure is not doing justice to these speakers, but they still sound great. 1000 times better than the Bose 6.1s I got rid of a year ago on E-bay after finding the much better sounding (then the Bose), Advents. (Head down in shame ) I David Candelaria, once fell for the marketing crap of the Big Bad Bose B.S.ers. I hope youre still reading this long winded intro. I love my Fortes, and you folks on this forum seem like a great bunch of people. Ive read back most of the post from a few months back learning quite a bit about Klipsch and about its wonderful community of fans. I look forward to participating in whatever way my newbie self can, and thank Mr. Klipsch (and Goodwill luck), for the opportunity to enjoy my love of music. David Candelaria
  14. Hello everyone, great forum! I own a nice pair of Forte I and this site is a God send. Anyways, I found a pair of DanTe 55113 speakers at the local Goodwill yesterday for a cheap price, and I can return them within 7 days. They sound pretty good, warm and deep. Any info on these? Google brings up Dante's Inferno and such, but no info on these speakers. They are a three way speaker, about 501bs, fused in the back and say St. Paul Minnisota USA on back. Look to be a late '80s or early '90s design. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance
