i was thinking about something:
it may can be a placement issue.
so from 99db to 105 we can fall to 90 and almost 100 quite easily.
or even less.

if i remember well, an orchestra produce a sound level from 0 to about 103dB so natgun s system should be enough to listen music in good conditions.

once you ll be sure the amp is good, i m sure michael knows a method to test the cd player,to be sure it feed the preamp with enough power.

111 db is very loud!
if he says that it is not loud, it means that there is less then than.
so here is a question:are you sure the amp is good?
here is a simple test if you haven t tested your amp yet:
if you have a mp3 player or a walkman or something like that, on wich you can set the volum, hooj up this device directly on the amp.
if it become very loud when turning up the volume you will be sure that the amp is right.

it s may be one of the pin of the din plug that run from the CP1 to the sub.

you re right, but a rb25 is soo too big so it can be place under or over the tv without laying it horizontally.

if you often use your system for music (SACD, DVD-A or any other multichannel source) go for 5 or 6 identical speakers.
if you use your system only for movies you can save some bucks in using some RS for the rears instead of the RB.
if your room is small i think 5 or 6 RB is a better choice to avoid reflexions or echo you might get with some RS because they will be too close from the front and the back wall.

if you have a sound blaster live or audigy there is an option called CMSS wich copy the sound of the front channels on the rears.
the rears are a little bit less loud than the front with this system.
if you have a 5.1 setup the front channels are copied on the rears and a mix of the front channels is sent to the front center.
the rears and the front center are weaker than the two front.

it should be some cancellation of course if they are not well correctly setted up.
but i m sure the ear works a lot to avoid this phenomenon.

if you mean that between 8 and 1 o clock the volume don t get louder, it can be normal.
i had 2 promedia 2.1 some times ago, and after 11 o clock the sound increased very very slowly.
anyway after 11o clock, it was so loud that i could not listen to them more than 1 minute

i agree with you ironwoods:if the DVD player has a better DAC you should use some independant rca and the 5.1 input of the amp, if the amp has the better DAC you should use a coax or an optical link between the 2 devices.

i agree.
floorstanders are better than bookshelves except if you have space issue.
and if you buy some good floorstanders you won t need a sun if you listen to music.(i got some SF1 and they go down to 40Hz, so when i listen to music i don t turn on the sub).with the money you saveyou would be able to buy some floorstanders instead of bookshelves + sub.
it may be good to wait a little and buy floorstanding spearker from the rf line or some heritage speakers.

it s normal the synergy line sound muffled after listenning to the ref:the ref have a better sensitivity.
so even if the synergy have a good one, the ref sound about twice louder with the same amount of power.it can be the opportunity to buy a new amp with less power but with a better quality.

the advices i gave might allow you to have some extra dB on low frequencies but i think formica hve found the real problem first.

pro-liners? it means klipsch speakers from the pro line?
if it s this the KSW10 is too weak and i think the KSW12 will be not strong enough, you need a very serious sub.

i think you should look at the manual of your receiver.
check the settings of it.especially the size of the speakers (large or small), where does it redirect the bass (to the main, to the sub or to both)...
stuff like this can be the source of your problem.
and check also the placement of your sub, here is a method to find the good place for a sub:
first place your sub at the right place you will listen to your system.
then move arround the room.once you ve found a place where there are good bass, this is the place you should put your sub.

my room is not smaller than yours and my little KSW10 works great.
to set the cut off frequency on your receiver you ll have to check on the manual sorry.it s possible that the cut off frequency cannot by changed.for example i ve a yamaha RXV-440 and the cut of frequency is hardware setted to 80HZ.
a little example:
if you receiver cut at 100Hz and you ve set on your sub the cutt of frequency at 30Hz you will only heard bass frequencies under 30Hz.in music there is not a lot of notes under 30Hz.so you don t heard anything on the sub and you push it to a higher volume.

check if the cut off frequency is not too low on your receiver and your sub.
and check the placement of your sub.
you should also use the 2 RCA input of your sub and not only one.on the KSW10 it helps a lot.
it s strange what is happening to you, i ve a KSW10 in a small room, but i ve already heard it in a medium size room and at half volume you hear it quite well.
it s not normal you have to set the volume of your sub at more than the half.
what speakers do you use and how large is your room?the KSW10 and your new sub are may be too weak for them.

if your promedia is still under waranty, do not open it!!!
else it worth trying, because you might be able to fix the problem by yourself and quickly instead of shipping your promedia and waiting for a long time.

i think the better solution is to find a way to shield your speaker.
it would be cheaper than changing your TV.

if the premedia ultra sat were exactly at the same place there are only few chance that the problem come from a placement issue.
