Actually ........... I should have a go a recording my dad singing some of his old songs, for memory's sake at least. While I'd never admit this to him but, he can actually sing! He's good at it! He has a great repertoire too - old irish 'rebel' songs, bush ballads, bawdy ballads, war-time ditties, cowboy songs and even some bob dylan. Some of these songs may be forgotten for good once he goes - he's 84 but as healthy as a bull. He'll be around for a good time yet, no doubt.

Not to be dour, but don't count on it. I lost my Dad 18 years ago, and treasure every little scrap of audio and video I have of the old man. A high-quality record of your Dad singing old songs will be the most treasured posession you will have (as well as a great treat for your kids, nephews, nieces, etc.). Do it tonight! (I'd love a copy!)

    ........................................................

Fini - yeah you u r probably right, I need to do it soon but he's in oz, i'm in europe. hope to be home in the next 5 months or so. I'll catch him then, I'm sure.

Getting back on track of the thread - well sort of anyway!!- has any one in the forum had the privelage to represent their country in an international sporting event (or the like) where you stand in front of the crowd (hostile or not) and hear/sing your national anthem? To me, as a sporting could'a'been, this would be the most moving emotional musical event of my life. Imagine you are there - in the team.....Wales vs england, france vs england, Australia vs england (in any sport). Sorry i'm not sure how the US goes on the international stage for team events - it goes without saying though when it come to the olympics and the like - you sure get to hear alot of the SSB!!

    Trying to get on track.

    Ok - try this ;

Don't take your guns to town - Johnny Cash (another tear jerker )

sweet child of mine - guns n roses ( it just makes me feel good - a great love song - (my sweet wife)

Bad bad leroy brown- jim croce (again - just makes me feel good when i hear it)

It's my young blokes 8th birthday today - We got INXS happening!!!! loud, the wife's not happy - but we are!!!! - I've had a couple quieties and all in the world is good.

  2. A slightly different slant on the thread

But, "Old Shep" by, my ol' man! A real tear jerker for any 7 year old kid. I'm tearin' up now just thinkin' about it!

Actually ........... I should have a go a recording my dad singing some of his old songs, for memory's sake at least. While I'd never admit this to him but, he can actually sing! He's good at it! I figure all I'll need to do is ply him with a couple a beers, to loosen up the tonsils of course, and he'll gladly go for it. There'd be no stopping the old crooner!!

I'm sure there are many of us that have heard songs sung by old family members that you've never heard any where else. It maybe time to record the words of these songs, poems and ditties.

    keep safe

  3. Has anyone tried the Altec Lansing mini ipod dock speakers out? How do they compare to the ProMedia Ultra 2.0's (do they compare). I haven't heard either setups so I'm running blind(deaf maybe). I'd like to get the Ultras, of course, to keep the Klipsch thing going - but I don't want to wait until next xmas to get them - I'm in Greece. I can get the Altec gear out of Australia though at a reasonable price. Ten days and there here! - I'd like to say that I could get the Ultras shipped from oz but I couldn't find a klipsch dealer on the net. Mircodirect don't seem to stock klipsch anymore.

Is it worth the wait or do I ship now - that's the big question.

    any thoughts appreciated

    thanks

    jimmy

  4. So the other day I'm cleaning up the living area ... trying to get at all the lego and toast that seems to accumulate under the telly and I noticed something ..... no sound coming from the left front speaker??? Strange. so I put in a cd - left speaker works fine

then a dvd - no probs there either.

    radio - all's sweet.

I put the cartoons (DBS mode) back on and still nothing from the front left.

I have also tried while in dbs the other sound modes - 5ch, stereo, direct, pure direct and that speaker is still as quiet as a mouse!

    I'm running a Denon AVR3803 to RF 35s sc1 ss1s and a ksw12.

Any ideas on what the problem could be would be much appreciated.

    thanks Jimmy

  5. Max - nice post.. You encouraged me to wander down to the Marriott today to have a look. While all the tube amps, speakers, turntables et al, were really something to look at and hear the thing that blew me away was the cabling that these systems were hooked up to. The cables themselves were great to look at. Function and art I guess?? A lot different to what I've got everything hooked up with (mogami).

I did happen to get a Klipsch price list from the dealer there. I just jumped on the net and compared some of the prices at goodguys (US). Man, have you guys in the US got good!! I'm depressed now - I need a trip to the states with a coupla suitcases big enuf to fit a pair of rf-7s.

Another thing - I also thought that some of the locally manufactured (greek)stuff was as good if not better than some of the more well known top end products.

    cheers 4 now

  6. Folks

This is a great thread. I've just ordered ELO-Zoom, Pete Gabriel - The Growing up Tour and Fleetwood Mac - The Dance on the recommendations of the forum.

Here are few that I don't think have been mentioned but are well worth the look.

    INXS - Live Baby Live

    ACDC - Stiff Upper Lip

Bee Gees - One Night Only

bit of an aussie theme I know!!

  7. I'm sure this will be an easy one for you out there. I'm stumped though.

I have a toshiba sd-5300y connected to a 3803 with an s-jack connection and the standard rca plugs for audio. I can't get the DTS Surround mode happening! An example is the Eagles Hell Freezes Over dvd (a dts disc). At the beginning of the disc is gives a prompt for either DTS or PCM. If DTS is selected I get no audio!! I select PCM, it's ok. It also seems plays fine with using the DTS NEO:6 (music)in Auto mode.

Could there be something wrong in my initial setup?

Do I need to up grade to optical + coax connections?

    I'm confused and surroundless

    Thanks in advance

    Jimmy

  8. I just bought set of klipsch for home theater/ music. The sales person recommened i use the mogami 3082 speaker cables. My question is - how do I connect these? I'm a little confused with the two treads of copper wire in the cable. Is it just a case of putting one tread to the + and the another to the - Neg and keeping it consistant? thanks in anticipation.
