  1. I have heard the HIII's described as "Awesome little thumpers". From what I have read; these have alot more bass response than my HI's. I suspect you will be just fine without a sub......[H] No mods necessary, unless you consider upgrading to even bigger speakers a mod...... (Bring on the Cornwalls or LaScalas!!!!!) [] Also, as I am learning, placement is important. I just spread mine to about 6 feet apart( were about 3 1/2 feet apart), slightly tilted up, as close to the wall as I can, and angled slightly toward the center...... Holy Cr*p; a big difference..... I had the sub volume down all the way and had to double check! Is this the best positioning? Is there an even better method to try? (I get each space is unique and you must find through trial and error; the best positioning). Thanks.....
  2. I can say for both sets of my Promedia 2.1's; they definitely sounded so much better after a few days of use. ( Ran them at medium levels for about 2 days; varying music type)... My opinion is that this allowed the drivers/ crossovers; etc to break in.... ( Just my opinion....) My Heresies are almost 30 yrs old; but I recapped them a week ago. I did one speaker and then did a side by side comparison. The old speaker sounded a bit muddier but louder..... Now a week later and these puppies sound significantly better than before the recap. The subtle nuances exist where before they were kind of drowned or filtered out..... My GF even noted this yeaterday.... "Ooh; I never heard that in that song before".... I just smiled...... []
  3. My system probably barely qualifies as Mid Fi, IMHO, but it blows me away when I listen to the music I love. I know other people who own (multi) Thousand dollar Bose systems and by virtue of this; they believe theirs is Hi Fi High Quality...... When they hear my system and realize I paid $250 for my Heresies; my receiver was free, my sub was free and my surrounds cost me $4 each at the thrift store, they are usually left picking their jaw up off of the floor. (Just added a KV3 center yesterday; package deal that comes out to about $30 per speaker... Woo Hoo!!!) Then I switch to 2 channel audio and play whatever music they like and they once again need to pick up their jaw...... [H] The other factor is; how much do you really ENJOY what you have? I have promedia 2.1's in the bedroom and if I am not jamming in the living room, I am jamming in the bedroom.... I love listening to music, and now that I listen to it at a relatively quality, realistic level.... there is no turning back..... ever. If I had a $50,000 system but never used it; what is the point? I use my audio equipment because I love my music, and therefore I believe my musical listening experience/ home theater exp is more valuable than someone who has super high end, but does not appreciate it....... My .02.....
  4. Hey, not trying to bag on your card; as I have AsUS Motherboards on 2 different computers; but I wonder if a different set/brand of (self powered)) speakers will also "hum". Maybe your card has an issue..... Again, it is just that I have 2 sets of these; one going on 5 years and do not have any humming noise...... Do not know much more about more expensive computer speakers as these rock; and for more money; I would buy a receiver and some Heresies or KG4, KG2.5, etc...... Currently have the main living room computer hooked up to the receiver and my Heresies..... (For $200; and some RCA adaptors you would have a system that is unreal.....)....[H] Good Luck....
  5. Thanks for the responses.....
  6. SeaDog, Thanks for the reply..... Now I have an idea of what to look for..... Let the hunt begin!!!!!! [H]
  7. Are you using a surge/noise suppressor? I always use these with any speakers/ amps I use.......
  8. I agree; around here KLF 20's go $700 or higher...... Heresies $300-$400..... That said; I love my Heresies and cannot see myself going back to non Heritage... (I had KG 2.5's before the Heresies).... Bring on the CornWalls!!!! (Oh wait; I would have nowhere to put them as my GF will have thrown me out!!!!! ) Good Luck!
  9. I suggest turning the volume down when connecting or disconnecting the CD Player, or turning off the power switch..... I play bass guitar; and whenever connecting my guitar to the amp; I either mute the amp or make sure volume is all the way down..... The crackling is normal but should be avoided.... IMHO.... Good Luck! Good Luck.
  10. I have a (new to me) set of 1980 HWO's that I recently upgraded the caps on with Crites' sonicaps. (Thanks Bob!) I love these things!!!! Best speakers I have ever owned!!!!! I currently use a Kenwood 8" 200W self powered sub; and it is decent; but fit much better when I was using my Ohm Model "E" bookshelves as my mains.... The Heresies are awesome; and I am looking for the best bang for (cheap) buck in regards to a sub that will mate (almost) seemlessly with them..... (Hoping around $250 or less) Yes I am asking alot.... [] Your suggestions are very appreciated..... Also; would the Crites Heresy woofer (upgrades) make a big difference in bass? (I plan on doing this at some point anyway......) Thanks!
  11. I own 2 pair of Promedia 2.1s. One pair is older; they have the plugs to the satellites. My newer pair have wires directly to the sats. I do not get humming with either; the older have been upgraded to the monster cables. I would be sure the speaker wires do not run near or in paralell with any type of power wires. (Or near an outlet; power supply for computer; monitor; etc...) Do you have another set of speakers to test; to check your sound card? (It is possible some kind of interference there.....). You could always goto Best Buy and exchange....... Good Luck!
