  1. i just got my set replaced and they have that exact same din plug. and you should check out asus sound cards my Xonar D2X is fine in both vista 64 bit and windows 7 64 bit. not to mention the awesome music making bundle that comes with them..... ableton 8, sonar 8.5, project5 2.0, dimension LE, cakewalk, rightmark RMAA 6.06, power dvd 8 along with a cd/wave converter for wma/mp3, etc. the bundle alone is worth the price of admission. it's a pci-e card.... they have other cards and most if not all got great reviews
  2. Asus Xonar D2X line or most of their high end cards..creative are crap and always have been. had their top of line with break out box built on my last system thats why i changed run a benchmark thru them and see whith your eyes what your eays most likely are already telling you. sound cards are finally going thru some changes as too many settled for crap for years then buyers used onboard sound on some better mobo's... now cards seem to be broken into 4 places. game cards music cards like Xonar which if left alone (set on hi-fi adds no extra crap) dont touch the signal. m-audio and the like to make music with and the new line of cards for headphone music lovers. now all this also must take into consideration your OS and your build.
  3. is the pop when you turn them on and off? if it is i have been told here it's "normal"....
  4. while i really like my promedia 2.1's for their price especially.... i had a friend who doea a bit of music like i do let me spend some time with his m audio reference speakers Studiophile AV 40 while they lack some of the bass they are very nice at thier price point. so if i don't get another 8 plus years out of these..... []
  5. no need it appears this pair i just picked up seem okay i will run them thru for a while just to make sure but $131.74 printed out the online ad.... returned previous hummers and used my $50 best buy gift card for a grand total out of my pocket of $89.74 ....and after 5 minutes no hum so seems like a winner to me. these babies break in nice to grover washington jr.'s album soulful strut nicely thanx for the help i seriously was ready to give up on them.... even ... i hate to say it almost got talked into a pair of blose. :~(
  6. nope tried set of blose on card this morning along with a set of altec lansing and no hum. i am mcse+ certified so one thing i do "try" to always follow is a flow chart wether from manufacturer (which kipsch does have one) or my own to rule out other issues. and since i just came from 10 clean months of the 2.1's and this same computer i knew it to be the speakers yet with an open mind i will try anything hoping it will work.nothing did...it's the speaker/amp setup. i noticed the din on back of sub is on an angle set back from front edge of amp, maybe that is keeping a tite clean connection? who knows. the faq mentions the hum and also has a line where you test with computer off and see if hum still there...and it is. local best buy got new shipment as they didn't list any when i bought them 10 days ago and now they have them and for a sale price of 131.74. wed is my day off :>) so i will spend morning replacing clothes that don't fit ya know the yearly trek for same thing....30 years of marriage and she still gets wrong size then off to best buy to return this set to local store for full refund on credit card (not store i got them from 12 miles away which they told me i could do) and then buy new set with another best buy card i got as agift so they will be free and hopefully problem free. a google and perusing of adiophile forums finds a few of the same issues i am experiencing. heck i was lucky with early on having 2 sets of these babies and not one issue while i read about others having problems and running to logitech...this is 2001 by the way. as far as sound card it was designed for work with the software bundle it came with ableton, cakewalk, project 5, dimension le,sonar 8.5, no crippled software all fully upgradeable and very good stuff. the card is totally shielded and other than not offering front headphone mic/headphone connections for cases it is a highly rated card which i agonized over while designing this computer from Puget Systems. i even clean installed with different drivers to make sure that wasn't it.... it wasn't. i researched the heck out of speakers and blows me away there are none, zippo, nadda... basically other then the terrible bose companion series which takes two channel stereo sound and fakes a surround sound that one the music was never intended for and two does a poor job of pulling it off. so klipsch don't let me down let the next pair be another 8 1/2 year winner :>)
  7. yep me too. although i have found them not to make much difference. going to look into some other high end 2.1's had gigaworks 5.1's years back that were very good but i don't game and tv and 7.1's rite behind me and since i use this box for a bit of sound work along with my photography work so i wil stay the 2.1 route just need to find a high end set that are computer compatible as the asus xonar d2x is a very good card for music sound.
  8. i listen to all the speakers i have at work and when voulme is kicked up you can hear an electronic hum...wierd they are cheap dells on optiplex setups. i have my old 2.1's with upgraded wires and will see if i get that same sound. the asus xonar d2x sound card is totally covered/sheilded to prevent this stuff but a simple google showed many of just this issue which goes back to 2001 or there abouts, i may just give up on klipsch while they are great 2.1's they aren't worth the agrravation to me time is money and i am not a gambler...to give up anotherday off out of the 1 a week i get to exchange and maybe end up with same deal....i wish there were something comparable as i am not looking to save the cash just get speakers that are what they should be. i have already ruled out wires, etc. and i get it wether computer is on or off
  9. after heavy testing i can hear the sound thru the satelites but seems to be not from tweeter but midrange driver on satelites.... if this is normal i can live with it but kinda dissappointing if 9 years later they still have same issue with regards to amp electronic hum coming thru speakers.....when computer is off. and yes i have speakers plugged in to correct spot onn sound card for self amplified speakers. sound card is Asus Xonar D2X pci-e. anyone experiencing this or have anything to add/check that i may have missed?
  10. very very light sound which i can't remember were on my last pair. and seems to be only from sub not satelites. i went through best buy so there is 30 days. no crackling no nothing out of the ordinary other than the above. something tellls me it is just the sound of the amp and it is normal. i have Asus Xonar D2X sound card with my Puget Systems build (should be in sig?) and tested with computer off just like faq said so do i have a return in order or a nothing to worry about..... can't hear any of it while music is playing....room has to be dead silent for it to be heard and then i have to put my head next to amp on sub. my sound card bundle came with all cakewalk tools and rightmark audio testing app but didn't think the testing app would tell me if i had a problem or not.
  11. back in business..... local best buy $154 plus 6% tax and i had a $50 best buy card from like months ago so all worked out well. break them in with some jazz... a little grover washington jr. sub is fine they changed the wireing of din plug it's now on an angle and the speaker wires come directly out of speakers, klipsch saves a few dollars. buy the way checked my old book, bought ones i replaced in 2001 so 8 years old. not bad.
  12. thanx... i'll pass on the wireless. found a set at my local best buy so i'll pick them wed
  13. i see them advertised here on the site. i also see some of the folks from the old days..ie.... amy, etc. who were very helpful with issues as they arose. i haven't found anything comparable for the money so i am ready to take the plunge again and what i am asking is are these new items or old/rebuilt stock? based on price and free shippping i would probably buy here as opposed to best buy. btw.... the base when i use sonar 8.5 or ableton 8 or on heavy base music has a bad vibration/sound that seems to come from back side of sub where all the controls are. in no mode to take anything apart as i had puget systems build me an awesome i7 940 box for my nikon d700 raw file work and the little playing around with audio i do on a purely amatuer level. thanx
  14. funny as thats usually what i see here about the 5.1's. i hope you have a better experience with those as when working they are good speakers, that aside speakers is the last thing we computer users should have issues with!
