  1. update for my particular situation...

I deleted all my programed pre sets/settings on the amp and everything seems to be all hunky dory now. there must have been something done when I used the auto set up/microphone that caused my system to play strangly for my room.

  2. have any of you guys had your speakers refinished by someone else? the reason I am asking is I dont have the skills necessary to do it myself(even though I am mechanically inclined) because I want them perfect.

what do you think is a fair amount ot be charged for redoing the finish on a pair of cornwalls? I want the old finish striped of and corners fixed and back, sides, face and top revineered.

    thanks

  3. That is what I have done also I have two pair of fronts a and b, I run a RF-7II 7.1 system for my movies and have my cornwalls used for music and I also play music with both my RF-7II'S & Cornwalls on at the same time I definately dont have issue with the base but a sub helps fill in the lower end with some of the newer stuff.

Thank you sir... I knew that it should work for the most part. right now what I am suffering from is a bit of harshness. I played with the settign and brought bass somewhat back up to acceptable levels but there seems to be more adjusting needed. the combo has good definition, but at low volumes there seems to be something amiss. at hgier volumes everything comes alive. I tried listening in A, in B, and in A/B... the cornwalls by themselves are very very clean but lack some punch or value... almost like the effiency is gone or non existent. the B cicuit with the KLF's are much punchier but have less range, specially highs. together they fill out slightly, but something is not perfect... I need to keep working on it, mixing it down.

I just ordered a set of crites 125's... I am hoping this will take the edge off the highs.

I think the easy fix for me would be a sub...

  4. Schu,

How do you like your KLF-10s? I would love to find a pair for my bedroom and put my tangents in the garage. I miss my KLF-30's!

IF you have the right amp and setup, those CW's should pound really nicely! I had some CW's hooked up to my dads old JVC JR-S600 and it rocked our backyard party!!!

    to be honest... very nice.

they can shake the foundation of the house with the elitle solid state, and they WERE delivering a very very deep bass until I tried mixing in the cornwalls. The imaging is less than a top tier speaker, but I indeed like them a lot... specially for the price($200)

  5. In short, YES!

The Cornwalls need Tubes to be at their best.

    Also:

Mixing of speaker lines usually isn't a good thing as each speaker line has it's unique "voice"....

But the ultimate reference is/are your ears....

I understand the timbre difference, but I was hoping to fill what sounded like a gap down below with what the klf's were doing on there own, which was an overly bassy response. so far it's not working as hoped, but I need to fiddle with it more. adding a Sub would make things a bit easier for me... maybe listen to music on channel A and listen to movies on channel B

  6. Is this bad news?

I tried these speakers laid out as you see them, then I ran the KL's off the B circuit and the CW's of the main front circuit and did playback with A/B selected.

it sounds okay but I am wondering what others think?

I did this because prior to trying this pairing, the KLF's were very very bass heavy.... now everything seems well balanced but I have lost some of that KLF bass Whoop. I may be because I ran the auto set up from pioneer while adding the CW's, this may account for some bass loss.

  7. can I ask you guys something... I was at the atique dealer the other day, and he's got a huge basket of old tubes sitting by the front door with a sign in it... 5 bucks a tube. is that somethign I should be looking to grab? how do you know if a tube is good or burnt? most of them are sitting loose, but a few are still in there original box.

I dont know much about the tube scene

  8. thanks guys... I had been trackign that onkyo 1000 already on the bay but I dont need all the universal capability. I have a PS3 already, and many of you are probably saying, why do you need a cd player then... I just want something that stands alone as a unit that the wife can operate, doesn;t cost to much, and has a warm analog sound.

  9. I want to buy a CD/SACD player in the sub 300 range. I am looking at quite playback, high resolution and a warm tone... any suggestions?

I have read some good reviews about the Onkyo C-S5VL which does it all but I have heard that it is rather clinical.

It's going ot be run throough a Pioneer SC35

  10. just a quick question about two subs... there isa guy locally that has a rw10 and a rpw10 for sale... which is a better sub and why please?

I've never run a sub in my system, and I would rather have it geared towards music than movies. I've read the technical specs, and they appear to be quite different. I prefer a very tight sound versus a booming sound

    thanks
