  1. I have a big collection of these old 78's that I have been caring for for the last 40+ years... I never have listened to them as I dont have the mechanism to do so

Form what I gather they were my great grand fathers, because there are some old edison Cylinders with some fairly Racist titles in there to. but most of them ate Duke, arte and blues/country based artists. I need a websited with more researchable info. does anyone have a source they would like to share?

  2. Schu has the right idea in identifying artists across a spectrum of genres. There are wonderful guitarists in every genre, though I'd argue that for complete technical mastery and subtlety/finesse of expression most any player in the classical realm (DiMeola is not classical) exceed the rest...usually considerably. I mean, Josef Eotvos' arrangement of the complete Goldberg Variations...my God! Galbraith's recent Debussy & Ravel, Baruecco's definitive Albeniz & Granados to name a few. Probably the most mnd-blowing and controversial of them all is Kazuhito Yamashita. His Tedesco performances on You Tube are so musically intense! Here's one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfgnmfEiU64 I also love his unconventional Bach #6 Cello Prelude. Not virtuosic, except for the ending, but he channels the cello so amazingly and with such grandeur. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdRB5QGCDFU&feature=related He's most famous for his insane arrangements of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Dvorak's New World Symphony. The classical world has argued for decades whether these involved recording tricks. They didn't.

I've never seen that Kazuhito Yamashita video... quite stunning, thanks for sharing!

  3. I recently lost a auction by $2.53...................Ouch ! I forgot about auction sniper...............

i hope you guys know that the winning bid only shows the amount they beat you by and in reality they could have outbid you by thousands. you don't know if it was 2.53 - 20.53 - 200.53 or 2000.53. i bid 1800 on a set of cornwalls and got them for 900.. i was so happy i saved 900

i usually only bid once with 15 seconds left in the auction. you should never show your bid early than that if you really want to win. don't give other bidders a chance to increase theirs. if you look at the winning bid they usually only bid once.

this was no disrespect to Schu and again losing by 25 doesn't tell the whole story. the winning bidder could have bid 5 grand on these speakers.

^^Exactly... I thought in this climate $1700 was going to be enough to take those home... guess not. I dont need a sniper service though I do see teh usefulness for those that might be less inclined to watch auctions like I am.

  4. hmmm... thanks.

I dont use snipers(dont want to pay for something I can do myself), i just need to pay more attention next time and be willing to ante up. seeing as I have over 1100 transactions(99% purchases) on Da Bay, I know my way around fairly well. I was just being hopeful that 1700 would take these home in this economic climate... oh well.

now only if gilbert will accept an offer on a set of cornwalls I can skip over from TN to pick them up... not very hopeful there either

  5. I could never understand the point of these lists... Having played myself for near 40 years, i find these comparisons very troubling... there is no such thing as the best art... it's just art.

but if you want to discuss players and the styles you love personally, I have to go with a relatively short list in no particular order...

    Steve Howe

    Juan Serrano

    Adrian Belew -

    Frank Zappa

    Jimi Hendrix

    John Mclaughlin

    Danny Gatton

    Joe Pass

    Chet Atkins

    Les Paul

    Monte Montgomery - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8_6aa-TTvI

Both those two links above are WELL worth the time to watch... Monte's for his technical ability, Adrians for his ultra subtle abilities, mastery of electronics and musical voice.

    Both videos are very special...

  6. I missed $500 Klipschorns the other day.

Since the inception of craigslist I've seen ads for:

    The above-mentioned Klipschorns

    $500 9/10 condition Belles

    $450 9/10 condition RF-7s

    $600 Cornwall II/Academy combo

$500 9/10 condition KLF-30s (best friend ended up buying them!)

    $300 CF-4

And a lot more than I can remember. I wish I had more expendable income, I'd give Colter a run for his money.

    Okay... just shoot me now

  7. are the klf 30's good for music when compared to say the cornwall or heresey?

I see from the specs they have a great range and the peak and max wattage appears to be really high. Or prehaps these are better suited for audio visual treatments.

    thanks

  8. I grew up in southen california and know exactly where this is... tunnels and newcombs ranch. it doesnt surprise me that its the perfect place to get echos.. there are actually two tunnels inline with each other that are seperated by about 30 yards and they over look a canyon that goes all the way down to the san gabriel valley...

love that horn by the way

  9. klipsch Versus Altec Lansing...

I have become increasing aware of some really nice looking vintage Altec Lansing speakers that are horn loaded.

For those with much mor eknowledge than I, what are the sound differences?

Are the Vintage altecs as desirable as the klipsch seems to be?
