I buy my NOS tubes from Brent Jesse. http://www.audiotubes.com ---------------- Thanks Dean!! I took you advise, along with both my brothers, and went with Brent's NOS. Here's what I ordered.... 12AX7 Ei Gold Elite, gold pins, MATCHED PAIR - $42.00 6SN7GTB Raytheon blackplate low noise screened for Baldwin Organ MATCHED PAIR - $37.00 Do you think I made good choices for the first time out? It looks like we have something in common now.... I too buy my NOS tubes from Brent Jesse!
  2. Another sweet sounding, smooth, clear voice is Dido. I'm listening to one of her CDs right now at whisper levels because jt1stcav just went to bed. (PARTY POOPER!!!) It is absolutely spooky how natural and present her voice sounds right now. With all the lights off, and the lid to my laptop closed through a couple songs, listening to her with my eyes closed, it's almost like I can see her standing there playing the guitar and singing into the mic. This is just absolutely wonderful!!! If this little Dared amp can do this with my KG's, I can't even begin to imagine what that Consonance amp is going to do when it gets here!!!! I might become paranoid and start listening with one eye open all the time or something!
  3. OK, now I'm on another tube hunt!!! My "other" brother has a pair of Electro Harmonix 12AX7EH valves he's willing to probably give me, so I don't think I have to worry about those for now. BUT..... yes, I know, there's always a but(t)!!! What I'm in search for now are the 6SN7 driver tubes. There seems to be a very small selection of NOS tubes, and an even smaller selection of new tubes. Does anybody have any worthy suggestions? Should I be looking for better 12AX7s or should I keep on for the 6SN7s? Also, isn't it just as important for the preamp and driver tubes to be matched like the power tubes? I'm looking to blow.... umm.... I mean spend a max of about 60 bucks on a pair, if that. From what I understand, the driver tubes see the same voltage as the power tubes, so they both wear out in about the same amount of time. Is this correct? Will I hear a bigger difference in the pre tubes or driver tubes? I think that's enough questions for now. Thanks!

  5. Hey, if anyone wants my amp, you still have a few minutes on eBay to go snag it up! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5701454718&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
  6. Figures you would know, Mr 6000+ posts and counting!
  7. There must be..... ummm, I better not. I might piss off a moderator or something, thinking I'm post "whoring", which I'm not.
  8. Not trying to hi-jack the thread or anything, but...... A while back I did a search for KG 5.5s on the forum here, and within my findings someone said they owned both the RF7s and the KG 5.5s. Now I clearly remember reading that he thought the two of these speakers sounded very similar when compared side by side. Does anybody know who that is, or does anyone have any opinions on these two loudspeakers? Just curious.

My Marshall destroyed those in 1/2 hour. EH is much better -Ryan ---------------- Yeah, I've heard not so good things about them too, more often than not.
  13. What the heck is <> supposed to mean??!!
  14. What's the sound difference between the Ei and TFK? I too am looking for some 12AX7s.
  15. I think I would have to say Peter Gabriel. He has a very distinctive and powerful voice. Coming in a very close second would be Bobby McFerrin. Another distinctive and unique voice.

You could send them whenever, but it sounds like you all set for places that can test tubes. Just thought I'd offer in case you were curious... Erik ---------------- Don't get me wrong Erik, I really do appreciate the offer. To tell you the truth, I wasn't planning on buying tubes right away either, but like I said, I couldn't resist, and end up missing out on these tubes. I'm not too sure if this amp comes with cheap tubes or Electro Harmonix from the factory, but those sure do look like EH EL34s in that picture above, and that's straight from Opera's site. If they are EH tubes, I might send them your way to have them checked out, that is if your offer still stands. Thanks again!
  18. Well, I went ahead and got the 6CA7 tubes. I couldn't beat the price for brand new tubes.
  19. Actually, there's an old Crowder Brothers hardware store here in town, and I think they have a tube tester in the back or their store somewhere. Also, there's an electronics supply shop in Orlando that I know has at least 4 or 5 testers, and even a few for sale. My main concern is the tonal differences between the EL34 and 6CA7 tubes. I know both are very good designs, but I just wanted to find out a little more about these two from EH. BTW, thanks for the offer but that would be quite a wait and distance to travel just to have tubes tested.

Plus, I'm not a member of AA, nor do I want to become one. I'm already on so many different forums, it's hard to keep track of all of them.

I used them for probably about a year, then traded them to my brother "jt1stcav". After about a half dozen or more pairs of (non-Klipsch) loudspeakers later, I have returned to Klipsch with a pair of KG 5.5s. Now to answer your question, (and to not start any arguements), I do believe you can get just as good of sound from new Klipsch towers, if not better sound than from the Cornwalls you had. It has been my experiance that my KG 5.5s sound much better than the Cornwalls. The bass is much deeper and detailed, the midrange is warmer and more nutral, and the highs are alot smoother. Imaging and soundstaging is much better as well. Now, just to make sure that everyone understands, I am NOT bashing the Cornwalls at all. I think they sound great with orchestral and choir music, even pipe organ music, however they lack depth in the lowest pedal notes. When compared to my KG 5.5s and newer music however, (pop, rock, jazz, darkwave, gothic, etc), the Cornwalls start to show their age. Again, this is how it seems in MY house, in MY room, in MY system, with MY music, to MY ears. However, feel free to ask jt1stcav what he thinks, since he agrees with my on most of this.
  22. Has anybody ever listened to Delerium? Their album "Karma" features Kirsty Thirsk (lead singer of Rose Chronicles) in several of their songs, including Enchanted, Wisdom and T'il The End Of Time. I think "Wisdom" displays her vocal abilities the best, but she sounds excellent either way! If you've never heard either Delerium or Kirsty Thirsk before, now is as good a time as any to check them out. I'm sure you wont regret it! Oh yeah, I almost forgot... Sarah McLachlan is also on this album. She sings in "Silence". Another excellent singer in my book!
  23. Which quad set of these tubes would you get, and why? Electro Harmonix EL34EH OR Electro Harmonix 6CA7EH The reason I'm asking is because I'm going to be getting an Opera Consonance M100SE in a week or so. It's 3 years old with the original stock tubes, (4- EL34, 2- 12AX7, 2- 6SN7). The tubes are still good, but I will be wanting to upgrade them soon.
  24. I may be a "newbie" on the forum, but I'm NOT a newbie when it comes to stereo equipment and music.
