  1. Did the Tempest have metallic mint green paint?
  2. By the way, the Waze app was awesome. I had always used Google maps before this but Wayz is interactive and people can update. A "road obstruction " warning came up and sure enough there was a 2' piece of tire in the middle of the lane. Then it pops something up asking if it is still there and you click yes or no. I wasn't familiar with it before, but highly reccomend it for situations like this.
  3. It is about 180 miles. There was gas all along 71 which goes from airport in Austin down to I 10. In Sugarland (Houston suburb) the HEB grocery store was closed at 400 pm, never seen that before. They had power and water to their house.
  4. I was lucky I got a short window in on Monday and they had a GPS approach so didn't have to worry about everything else being down. I don't actually know where the major radar equipment is for Houston Center, I know there is a large instalation in San Antonio, San Angelo, Houston, and Bryan. Everything is pretty much shut down except for emergency related flights and evacuation operations. Great work y'all are doing.
  5. Drove to Houston yesterday (Sugarland) and returned friends' daughter to Austin airport. Took 71 to 10 to 36 at Sealy to Spur something. Roads were all fine, but you could see where they were underwater just the day before. Large lakes of water still on either side of the road. Parking lots in Sugarland under 3 feet of water, etc. Driving down we were only car on the road on 71 except for an occasional truck that was obviously for flood relief, or a line of 6 carpet cleaning vans. Very eerie feeling. Was good to get in and out of there so easily. I wouldn't have wanted to do it a day earlier.
  6. Today they closed all airports to regular traffic in the Houston area to allow disaster relief traffic in. 7. Thank you for that. I would have liked to have done that, but they have CC so restricted right now b/c of POTUS fly-in I don't think I can get a clearance anywhere near there.
  8. He should have put a timeframe in there.
  9. These are closest friends, and they have to get something out of their house in order to allow their daughter to travel off to do a semester in Europe on time. In other words, it's an Emergency.
  10. Call me Crazy, see you on the front porch.
  11. Weller 12 has just been upgraded to Critically Endangered.
  12. They are now showing 99 south from 290 is wide open with no closures.
  13. Your house is our "Plan B" if we can't get to Colony Lakes. I'll bring Boodles and lemons.
  14. Our news has been more local, highlighting damage and flooding, not really focusing on road closures in Houston. That TXDOT map, Google maps and you are all I have to go by. What news station has been the best on the roads? Maybe I can go online and look some more.
  15. Friends of my friend provided the following information to them, they got out to Austin today from Riverstone by driving this Route: Hwy 6, 69, 610 to 290. Took them 2.5 hours, they were only ones on the road. It didn't occur to me that outbound could be wide open but inbound more restricted. It also just occurred to me why are we going in when people are leaving that can. Thank you so much for update. I am hoping there is some positive news tomorrow and more roads are opening.
  16. That was from 2015. Quite an episode. 500 year river levels, Lake Travis was over 50 feet down and it filled up in a day!
  17. Houston Friends, I need some help urgently. I have close and dear friends flying into Austin tomorrow at noon and I need to drive them to their home in Colony Lakes (Highway 6/Dew9alt area). They are high and dry as it the rest of the area, however, getting there is going to be the issue. Flying them down isn't going to work because of logistical issues. So how to get to Sugarland area from Austin is the big question at this point. This is the source I have been using which is hopefully accurate https://drivetexas.org/#/12/29.7243/-95.6124?future=false 290 looks good down to Cypress right now. 99 south from 290 is showing closed right now but forecast to open by noon tomorrow. I am thinking 290 to 99 South, and then trying to figure out a way to cut over to 6 south. Any thoughts or ideas? @Mallette @Jeff Matthews ?????
  18. Some stats on Buffalo Bayou. Look at past record heights and where things got.
  19. My friends' parents house in Piney Point flooded, 10" of water in garage. Village police had to come and carry them out and there are at.my friends at Gessner and I10, where they are dry. They have to continue to release water into Buffalo Bayou so the levy (?) doesn't break and flood whole town. Criminal Courthouse is under 10' of water.
  20. Sun is out and a beautiful day in NW Austin.
  21. It's a big giant mess, just aweful. No Comm, everything ripped apart.
