  1. US NATIONALS RULE!!!! I have gone 23 times, first when I was 8 months old. Good old Clermont, Ahhh the smell of Nitro...... Now I go to the Gator Nats down here in Florida. Nice time of year for the Gators, the weather is usually nice, unlike Indy now Hot Hot Hot and huge amounts of people. You have to show up at 4:30 am on Sunday For the bud shootout, just to get in the gate without waiting in the never ending line of cars.... Good old Nationals9.gif

  2. A powerful senator dies after a prolonged illness. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to Heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the guy.

"Well, I'd like to but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in Hell and one in Heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in Heaven," says the senator.

"I'm sorry but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a club and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him, everyone is very happy and in evening attire. They run to greet him, hug him, and reminisce about the good times they had. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster and caviar. Also present is the Devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that, before he realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a big hug and waves while the elevator rises.

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on Heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.

"Now it's time to visit Heaven."

So 24 hours pass with the head of state joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well then, you've spent a day in Hell and another in Heaven. Now choose your eternity."

He reflects for a minute, then the senator answers, "Well, I would never have said it, I mean Heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in Hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell. Now the doors of the elevator open and he is in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags. The Devil comes over to him and lays his arm on his neck.

"I don't understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and club and we ate lobster and caviar and danced and had a great time. Now all there is, is a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable.

The Devil looks at him, smiles and says,

"Yesterday we were campaigning...Today you voted for us!" 9.gif

That or one of their high-end SACD players. Whatever you do, stay away from amplifiers. They may do OK for HT but for 2-channel, Sony makes nothing that will do those khorns justice.

    Definetly!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Subwoofer Challenge

    Well the madness has begun.

Not long ago I posted that I envisioned 3 pair of LARGER SUBS "stacked" atop each other (3 on a side) for my system.

Well the first 3 subs are here, and the fourth will arrive in a few days.

At this very moment, I only have the two new LARGERS hooked up and breaking in a bit.

At this point it is basically to the level of what I was looking for, but I "WILL" go with the 4 to break the record for "most LARGERs in one room at one time, in a musical 2 channel system".

If I feel it nessessary, (I would need challengers) I will then put the VMPS Woofer record into the Clouds (see my AVATAR to the left) by going with the last two (6 LARGERS in all)

If anyone cares to try and break the record let me know, I could be talked into even more. I have alread planned to place the 4th pair to "flank" the bottom pair.

In recreating the size, power, impact, and weight of a "LIVE" performance the hardest thing is to produce and move the air in the lower registers. Even the two LARGERS shows me this. Four will be even better and Six will approach the grandiosity of most any Concert Hall or Symphonic Shell in the world.

And let it not be "misunderstood" my goal is "musicality", not BAAAABOOOM!

And I might add that I certainly know of "single box" high x-mass Subs that come to the table with plenty of "FirePower" for similar cash.

    FFFFFFtttttt! you can hav'em.

Anyone who has ever heard the Woofer Towers of Arnie's old IRS system knows that bringing the drivers up to ear level adds a whole new dimension to woo***e

So as I stack these the drivers to approach ear level, the sound and music should be incredible.

    Challengers are Welcome

    Woof! Woof!

Indy----I've owned 2 sets of LaScalas, a set of Cornwalls and now own a set of Hereseys (which sit in the closet while I use Altec Boleros).

I come here to talk about horn speakers. There are some people here with a general interest in horn speakers; folks like Maron, Guy, DJK, Mark Deneen, John Warren, Gil and several others. And there are people here who know and care only about Klipsch speakers. The former group is more interesting to talk with than mere Klipsch cheerleaders are; more serious and certainly more knowledgeable.

Anyone who thinks that there's something magical or unique about Klipsch speakers is woefully ignorant about speakers and how they work. Some Klipsch speakers are very good but they are good because they belong to a type of speaker, horns, which has certain advantages compared to other types. Other speakers of this type enjoy the same advantages and some certainly use higher quality drivers and standards of construction, this is simply undeniable. I think that to not have curiosity about horn speakers other than Klipsch bespeaks a simple and complacent attitude.

Now there are people who have wide experience with horn speakers and prefer Klipsch. And there are people with wide experience with horns who veer away from Klipsch into other things but still regard Klipsch as good speakers. And there are hornys who think Klipsch, even the "real" stuff, is junk.

My best friend has been a horny as long as I have, over 30 years. We traded a pair of Cornwalls I owned for a pair of Altec 605s he owned. We're both happy.

My first high-efficiency-horn type speakers were DIY jobs using JBL D-130 woofers in vented boxes with RS horn tweeters, this around 1971. These were later improved with Celestion drivers on EV-8HD horns and JBL bullet tweeters, I was off and running with this horn thing. Besides the Klipsch stuff I've used various Altec, JBL, EV, Celestion, Edgar, Radian, Fostex, McCauley, Eminence.....I'm curious about horn speakers, a horn speaker enthusiast. I'll hardly apologize for that. One would hope that such enthusiasm and curiosity, compared to simple brand loyalty and enthusiasm, was a good thing.

Have you ever tried a large amp the VMPS? Say ampzilla or sunfire 600 two? The VMPS Will take huge amounts of power, and with the new MLS cabinets they are better than ever before, I have had a klpsch 15" 1,800$ sub back in 1999 and was unhappy with it when I used it with my Khorns, I had at that time. I eventually sold it for a Paradigm.

If it sounds good then let her fly , sounds like crap then figure out why .

    ----------------

If you adjusted the timing and carb by feel, how do you know your running on the edge of detonation where your 454 will make the most power with the octane # of fuel you have? Also I have found that the best way to adjust your jetting on your carb is by running at WOT at peak RPM in high gear killing the ignition at the same time you let the throttle blades slam shut, get it stopped and pull the plugs to check for proper air fuel mixture and detonation by READING THEM. NO BODY THAT IS SERIOS ABOUT PERFORMANCE TUNES BY EAR and FEEL< NOT EAVEN AUSIN COIL>9.gif BY the way, what do you have for heads, compression ratio, cam and intake in the 454?

  10. What is dean doing to the crossovers? How is he testing his results? Does he do anything for the chorus2? I recently purchased a set of VMPS ST RSE speakers from Brian Chenney of VMPS,he modified my crossovers in them,

it took him 3 weeks of listenig and tweaking in his listening room. Does dean own or have access to speakers to test his crossovers in? Im interested in his crossovers because of all of your great praise, but would like to know if there proven for my speakers.
