  2. I was considering the Sansui 9090 myself. I have an HK730 currently and it's just fine but I do like the extra features on the 9090 including the midrange control and hook-up for a 3rd set of speakers. Dave: How well does the midrange tonal adjustment work on this unit? I would think it might make a difference using it with heritage 3-ways? You mentioned that the HK sounded a little better than the Sansui? In what way/s? Curious. Also, with the recent mention about the Marantz 2325 (which looks pretty similiar in specs and cosmetic design to the Sansui), does anyone know what the advantages of the Marantz over the Sansui would be? I am looking for another SS budget alternative to a tube amp . Currently running a set of Cornwalls and CF's with just the HK730. Good sound here but I am concerned that this may not be the best idea considering the rather low wpc of the HK.
  3. Well, picked up the CF3's recently and have them set up along-side my Cornwalls and all I can say is wow .. they sound fantastic together. Seperately, great .. together .. amazing. Had thought perhaps of offering the Corns for sale after acquiring the CF3's but hearing them together (along with Colter's directive to "never ever sell the Cornwalls":) has put that thought to rest. Now, to the big question .. I am currently powering them both with a Harman Kardon 730 (the 1975 twin-powered one). This actually sounds fine, but I know Tube is the way to go eventually. I need advice on a very good sounding "budget" tube amp. Cayin and Jolida have been mentioned. Is there any tube amp that would allow me to power BOTH sets of speakers as I am doing now with the HK730? Or am I dreaming here? The more inputs of course the better (phono/2 or 3 aux would be nice for CD and DVD) Have never owned a tube amp so would really appreciate some good advice/suggestions. What kind of money .. approximately .. are we talking here? Thanks!
  4. Looking to improve my CD playback. Have read through some of the threads here. Currently am limited to using my DVD player/recorders for such tasks: Pioneer 510 and JVC XV-N50BK (Sad, but true) I am running both into a vintage analog-only HK730 twin-powered receiver/amp (1975 era) My speakers are Cornwalls and soon-to-be CF3's. I have read good things here and elsewhere about the Philips 963SA and some of the Sony's (DVD/CD) players. Their upsampling appearently does wonders? Have heard mostly good things about NAD players as well. Given my current set-up, are any of these really going to make a big difference and improve the sound of my CD's over what I am using currently?
  5. Tony (and any others for that matter)- Now that you have brought up the enigmatic CF Series (which I am about to be getting-CF3's), I do recall when reading everything I could here about them using the "search" for previous posts ... that you had a pair at one time. Not too many here from what I've gathered, have had the opportunity to do an in-home comparison between Cornwalls (which I presently have) and CF3's but if I'm not mistaken, you did have both at one time? If so, I would appreciate hearing any comments you might have about their differences. I know you prefer the Cornwalls but what did the CF3's do well .. in your opinion? I'll know soon enough for myself but it would be interesting to hear your observations on this. By the way, thanks to all those who have taken the time to respond to my PM's and posts. Especially jcleve, ray garrison, mr.mcgoo, and roowoo.
  6. You know, I had this same question a while ago and was really on the fence on whether I should go with the KLF 30's or the CF 3 or CF 4. By chance, I ended up getting a great pair of 1977 Cornwalls. I love the Corns, but they do overwhelm my mid-sized living room. I also feel the bass is great, but a bit boomy (for lack of a better term). The Cornwalls are a classic though and have great presence. No real complaints at all other than that they just overhwhelm the listening room I have them in and the highs tend to be a bit too harsh on some recordings. Of course, it's all subjective though. Still, I wanted another pair of speaks and the KLF 30's or CF3's were available to me. If I hadn't wanted a tower-type speaker specifically, I think I would have gone the Forte route. Folks here, when asked, seemed to mention that the KLF Legend line would sound more like what I was used to with the Cornwalls. It is for this reason, among others, that I am going to get the CF3's. Of course, I have yet to hear them If anyone here has heard BOTH the CF3/4's and the Cornwalls, I would welcome your compare and contrast type thoughts on them. Tony? Opinions seem to very widely on their sound, but all who have heard them seem to agree that they are a very good speaker with great imaging. The only negatives I have heard on them is they don't quite have the "Klipsch-sound" with their slightly rolled off highs and that their soundstage/sweet spot is fairly narrow. The horn sits between the woofers and is also relatively low to the ground so that is the only thing that really concerns me. At any rate, good luck with whatever you decide on .. I can say with Klipsch, that it is nice to have so many good choices
  7. ---------------- On 7/11/2004 1:21:26 AM colterphoto1 wrote: hey Z, tell me more about this NFL 'sounds' series. What is it and how to get??? Hey- Well, there was a pretty limited series of five LP's released in the 70's of this orchestral and marching band-type of music which provided the soundtrack to NFL Films' highlights shows like Game of The Week and This Week in the NFL. I bought one as a kid at a department store back in 1973 and then another about a year later. I have picked up two others since at a thrift store and a yard sale. Some of it is really good and will definately take you back (if you were a fan and remember those shows from back then). About five years ago, there was a CD release of some of this music which, while very limited in scope, did feature a lot of the voice-over narration by the original announcer of those highlight shows: John Facenda. This is good stuff: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00000DGUH/104-5236128-3843112?v=glance But if you wanted the complete collection of the music itself, you had to rely on the older vinyl copies. Until now! .. Apparently, the company in the link below has just released all 5 volumes on new vinyl in a box-set http://valley-entertainment.com/Artists/NFL_Films_Music/ CD versions to follow in September. Worth checking out at any rate.

  9. Thanks for confirming (I was wondering of course if it was my browser)
  10. Is anyone else experiencing problems lately with the "Search" feature on this site?
  11. Ok folks, opinions are being solicited. I know lots of you have experience with the KLF series and I have asked a few of you about the CF series as well but they are clearly less popular. My question is this: Given the fact that I now have an opportunity to get either a pair of CF4's or KLF30's, which do you think is the better choice (assuming that price is the same) ? I own Corns, and love them but the room I have them in is a little too small for their Big soundstage. What I would like to hear out of either the KLF's or CF's is better dynamics, a sweeter high end and mid-range, and again I do not need or desire boomy or thundering bass (even though I listen to a good deal of rock, it is rarely at high volumes) I mainly seek detail out of these - fingers on strings, great clarity in vocals, etc .. My needs are for 2-channel music listening first. At the moment, I have an HK630 vintage SS that I am powering the Corns with. Anyway, KLF's are a 3-way, CF's are a 2-way. (Corns are a 3-way) Hmm, I wonder how this will come into play? CF's are front-ported, KLF's are rear-ported. (The Corns I have are a little too boomy for me bass-wise given the room I have them in) But the Corns aside, those that have heard these speakers, please offer a few opinions on what might be the discernable differences sonically between the CF's and KLF's. As always, thank you
  12. With all of these having the antiquated screw-type speaker connections, I am just wondering what type of speaker wiring those of you with these HK's are using? I have some Audioquest Type-4 but am just curious if there's a comparable wire that would allow easier on/off connectivity. Also, I have the "twin powered" 630 (from 1975?). Anyone know where I might still be able to download a user's manual? Thanks
  13. I have decided on buying the RF-35's from either Sound Distributors or BrandNamez. Anyone here have any opinions on which merchant to go with?
  14. Thanks you guys Well, I am going to sell the HK AVR320 Think it best to rethink some things I am left with several choices then for main speakers: The SF-3's for $699 total The KLF-20's for $890 total or the RF-35's for $715 total I really want to go with NAD to power them Which speakers? I want clarity and detail in the mid and high-range first, booming bass is not a big deal as I've said.
  15. Looking to spend $700 max on a pair (gently used or new) I want them mainly for music .. rock (see: Zeppelin, Yes, etc ..), ambient, vocals. I will not be using a seperate sub at all .. don't require much bass. Would like to utilize the SC-1 and a pair of SB.1's I already have along with my A/V receiver (HK AVR320) However, for better musicality, would consider upgrading to a Denon or NAD but would prefer to have an all-in-one amp/receiver solution like this. Room dimensions are roughly 17 X 15, carpeted, high cieling. Very tempted to go with the SF-3's as they are at Best Buy which is around the block from me and would be $699 total. Still, I know that the RF-35 or certainly the KLF-20 would be better choices if we are just talking about mains irregardless of the "cheapie" peripheral Klipsch's I already have. I doubt whether I will be able to find the RF-35 or the KLF20's though at $700 for the pair. Several questions here (I know) but trying to piece it together before I make any more mistakes Thanks
