  1. I have a Denon 3801 I am needing to sell. I have offered it here to a couple of individuals for $350 but have decided to offer a little better deal to the forum members. So, if either of you that were interested contact me I will give you first priority at $325 plus shipping. Otherwise, if anyone else happens to be interested contact me within the next couple of days before I take it on to EBAY.

Payment with money order, cashier's check or paypal (no CC unless buyer pays the additional 3%).

    Thanks,

    Dallas

While I don't disagree, Mark Hammil was hardly an Oscar candidate. He did his best work in 'My Corvette Summer'.

Some of the acting can be attributed to the screenplay; I mean some of the dialogue is really bad and forced. To hear Hayden Christensen whine that no one understands me and I am feeling this and this and this, oh boo hoo. What happened to subtly and not being so obvious about every thing? Its like they might as well have a narrator come on and said, "well Anikan was talented, but became cranky and short tempered because he missed his mom and Obi Wan treated him like a kid". I think where they really missed the boat is when Padime, gets scratched by that saber toothed grinning cat in that amphitheater in front of all those flying things; it should have ripped her top off. Further more Natalie Portman's wardrobe stylist should have gone with the idea that 'less is more and much less is much more'.

Oh, btw is her character like what 10 years older than Anakin? Not that there is anything wrong with that.

    ----------------

No don't bag on Hamil too much. He may not have been Oscar material but he certainly did a servicable job.. Not many actors up next to Harrison Ford and Chewy will look like Oscar material... I at least think Mark knew how to make Luke whine and it be believable without being annoying.

naw, the last two were junk. wooden acting, horrible dialog, a few effects, but nowhere near the classic storylines that the first trilogy were. PM1 was a joke with that Binks character.

That is one thing that really gets me is how poor the acting has been in the latest two. I am a Samuel Jackson fan but his dialog seems, well, read off a script, as does Princess Armadillo's...As far as Darth goes, I can get a sense of the anger that boils over in his character but it borders on unbelievable coming form him. However, it looks a little more believable in the one coming out so I am anxious to see if it will finally live up to expectations.

It has to be a difficult task to come back after over 20 years to complete the story without making it look somewhat disjointed. I too wish they had better actors to tell the story and, quite seriously, a better story. Piecing together a 20 second blurb so we don't miss a story line isn't what keeps my attention or keeps me interested in the flow of the story.

  4. I would if I had someone to watch my girls. It would be more for the experience than me not being able to wait to see it. I waited a year to watch The Two Towers and I don't remember if there were even midnight showings of Return of the King but I didn't wait in line to see it either. (I did, at least, go to the theatre to see it!)

  5. Okay, the compressed air worked well, no need for any additional cleaning. I have hooked it up and short of a mis-placed video connection it works extremely well. I will fix that tomorrow...

    Thanks all!

  6. So, if blowing the dust out doesn't satisfy my need for perfection, is cleaning it with a cotton swab and a dab of alcohol completely out of the question? Has no one else done this before?

If not a cotton swab and alcohol is there anything else I could/should do, short of taking it into a specialist to be cleaned. It's not that it is extremely dusty, I just want it to be as close to new as possible.

    Thanks,

Got an air compressor in the garage? That will do just as well if you have the right attachment. So you got the 3802?

    ----------------

Unfortunately no, my dad has a huge air compressor but he is too far away for me to use it. Growing up I had all the "free air" I could use, now I have to pay $7 a compress can! Ugh! 14.gif

Yes, I got the 3802 and it seems to be dustier than my 3801. The price was good and it was local so I went ahead and sprang for it but I wanted to clean it up a bit before I tested it out!

  8. Canned air huh? So, I could take the cover off and clean it with canned air. I will check and see if my local Staples has some canned air. Never thought I would go pay money for canned air...

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks,

  9. Is it a good idea to remove the cover on a receiver and clean the dust off the components inside? I am replacing my receiver but I wanted to clean my new one before I hooked it all up. Can I use a cotton swab and some alcohol (the rubbing kind) to clean it or should I just not worry about it?

    Thanks,

I do not have the Denon 3801 but do have the Denon 3802. I know the 3802 has on screen display..(always a bonus, that I believe was not an option on the 3801 if I remember right.) I did A vs B them at the time of purchase, very subjective I know at the store and I thought the 3802 set flat on both units had a little more bottom end.

I also would compare and re check the surround modes...I think it also had the Dolby Digital (also known as Pro Logic II) and DTS ES. Both add the 7.1 sound to your movie experience that is over regular 5.1.

Last, I think the 3802 at the time was a very solid..(I can agree it is very heavy also.) well built machine. It is very flat sound wise. My only major beef-complaint is the remote MUST start in AMP mode.. And they wait (I am not kidding you) till like page 42 or something like that in the manual to explain this. Do not buy either unit without the manual, you will get lost and frustrated. Where on any Yamaha, even today, I can literally flip exactly almost intuitively and get it right at the get go. Some people like the clean ness of the 3802 I see on audiogon and other sites and buy better amps later but they like still the processing of the 3802.

    My 2 cents.

3802 in the basement HT, for now.

    ----------------

THe 3801 does have on screen display which I have found to be very helpful! I don't think I could live without it now...

As far as the remote goes, I am finally used to it and sorta like it's functionality now. I know about 1/10th what I need to about it and the receiver but that's about how I operate through everyday life, why change now?!? ;-)

    Thanks,

From this web site, I see that with the 3802 you gain 5 sets of composite and S vid inputs vs only 2 composite with the 3801, so you can hook up more video sources.

the 3802 features its own bass management with assignable hi and lo pass filters (so that on every source, your sub and mains interact the same)

the 3802 features 5 and 7 channel 'stereo' modes so you can blast all speakers without any delays added.

Please note that the power ratings are at 1kHz ( not 20 Hz to 20 kHz) so they are not rated at full bandwidth. You're probably looking at a realistic 70 watts per channel.

Looks like the zones work the same, you can assign channels 6 and 7 to the second zone and directly drive another set of speakers with another source- pretty cool.

DOn't know about the various DSP modes, but 3802 adds Dolby II, they both have DTS.

Surely there are some Denon fans out there who could give you more help than I can. Anyone???

    Michael

Thanks for going through that with me! I also noticed this on the 3802 but not on the 3801: "Dolby Pro Logic II decoding with Cinema and Music Modes." What is this, just another way to utilize the surround sound speakers?

How important would that additional bass management be?

That zone thing has me confused at the moment. How does that work? Can I have my main speakers be on DVD with my watching a movie in the living room while having the second zone on stereo pumping tunes out to my back patio, or bedroom, etc? (I obviously don't utilize that feature on my current 3801...)

If you get a good deal on the 3802, I might be interested in your 3801 if the price is right. It would be an upgrade over my current Onkyo.

    Fast lane,

Shoot me an e-mail at drex46@yahoo.com and we will see if we can make a deal. Shipping might not be overly excessive since I am in Oklahoma and you are located in Misissippi but, the Denons are heavy equipment!

    Everyone,

As far as the features, what features would the 3802 have over the 3801. I am trying to determine if it is worth the extra $100 for the 3802. Since it is a local pick-up shipping is not a factor.

    Thanks,

For D-Rex: Would an infinite baffel subwoofer system be an option for your room? I'm pretty sure you could go that route for around $1000 and it would totally blow any other box sub out of the water. An adjacent attic, garage, empty room, or even the outdoors (with no neighbors) is all that is needed.

I am still in the market to buy a house so until that occurs I can't explore the IB route.

Thanks for all the interesting discussion!

RSW's are fine machines, however if you want subsonic then you will have to go elsewhere. Adding a 16-46 would definitely fill in your low end (to 12 Hz!) well beyong what your RSW-12 is capable of. You could get a higher dollar SVS for the price of both machines, but I have a feeling that those who really like their Klipsch subs would end up regretting their departure. If you love it then I'd think twice about getting rid of it (unless, of course, you love your SVS even more). The PB10-isd would also fill out your low end, however the degree to which I'm not certain.

I do love my current sub but am also thinking of purchasing an RSW-15 in the near future for it's punchy musical properties. I'm not going to run them together, but separately for HT and music.

Trying to be humble, there are subs that are better than mine (granted, not too many!) but Klipsch RSW's have a great sound that would supplement my listening habbits well.

    ----------------

So, then the million dollar question (or at least hundred dollar question): Is there a sub for $1200 that would give superior performance to an RSW-12 combined with an SVS 16-46 (or 20-39)?

Do you wonder for the amount of money you would be placing into an additional sub (the RSW-15) if it would be better to take that money and combine it with funds from selling the SVS and investing those funds into a singlle sub, such as a Velodyne DD?

    D

  15. I have never heard an SVS so I am going strictly by what I have read on this and other forums concerning the quality of the SVS. I have the RSW-12 and think it is great for that punch but I am still wondering what I am missing on the low end of the scale.

So, with that in mind, would adding either the base model 16-46 or even their smallest box sub be a significant addition to my home theatre? I have invested $800 into the RSW so this would be another $400-500 of cost bringing my investment in subwoofers to almost $1300. I could get one fo the top SVS models for that much... However, I suspect I would lose $100 trying to sell my RSW on EBAY. Plus I really like my RSW! 1.gif

These are just thoughts I was having and would like some "expert opinions." 16.gif

Is that the series with the D'appolito configuration, with the tweeter sandwiched between dual woofers? If so, that was a very popular theory at the time for HT speakers, seems like lots of manufacturers used it then it went away very quickly. Did it not work as promised or ??

    Michael

That is very interesting. The tweeter is still sandwiched inbetween the woofers on a center channel, but maybe that makes more sense...

There was one last week, but it didn't live long. I think the Tangents just aren't that popular. The Epic series doesn't get much airtime either, but I'm sure they're nice speakers too.

My Wild Irish Rose?!? No, that would be Heresy! Singing the Eyes of Texas would be Heresy II! 3.gif

I just never see any discussions about Tangents so I really even wondered if they existed...

    D

  19. How come nobody ever discusses the Klipsch Tangent series? I know I have seen some come up on EBAY but they are never priced very well and I have never seen a thread about them here. Reference, Heresy's, Cornwalls, etc., but never a discussion on the Tangent speakers. These were only built for one year, was there some problems with them?

    Just curious,
