  1. I got all this stuff a few years ago when I first started getting into home theater, the RF35's are still like new with VERY little use, about a year ago I started thinking about selling these, just haven't even hooked them up since our last move a yr ago, wife wears a hearing aid, hates when i turn sound up, also have a 6 yr old who also complains when volume is turned up, so 99.998% of our tv viewing is from the tv speaker sad to say. I have a 65 inch Mitsubishi 65907 Diamond Series tv, it has been fully ISF calibrated with all documentation of services done, has duve lining, the works, LOOKS AMAZING, just never use the darn thing (have an lcd in livingroom this sits literally in our den unused). Every once in an while I hook xbox up and let my daughter play a bit but other than that it doesn't even get turned on. I have 2 RF 35 towers in pristine shape, not even broken in yet maybe 40-50 hours total use and that was at normal room volume nothing crazy, still have the boxes for these even in the garage. 1 have an RC3 center channel here used it with the RF 35's sounds amazing too but yet again never gets used, isn't even hooked up to anything just sitting on my tv at the moment in the den. 1 KSW 15 sub this thing will ROCK a house, sadly it rarely rocked mine except for when wife and daughter werent home and I would watch a quick action movie or concert dvd. 2 quintets I used as surround rears, again very little use great shape 1 onkyo receiver TX DS575 that does dts 5.1 and more, rarely had the thing on even remote is still 100% new condition. I keep all my books and paperwork for my electronics (its werid I know) but I like it as reference and for insurance purposes. If you look at my past posts about a yr ago I was asking what all this was worth (sterero stuff) it was right after we moved, and since then literally I unpacked but didn't hook anything up, wife complains too much, have a new lcd and new smaller surround setup that I still rarely get to use in the livingroom but wife likes that tv much better cuz its smaller, so I decided again to list here in case someone is in my area and wants a heck of a deal on some very little used equipment. ALL of these items I bought new none used, I have to look a bit but I am 98% positive I have paperwork for everything I bought, I keep all booklets and paperwork for stuff so it might take me a bit to find it all (haven't really dug it all out since I bought it all) have about $2500 into stereo stuff and about 5 grand into the tv, I don't really want to break up the stereo stuff but would seperate the tv vs stereo stuff or make someone a HECK of a deal on the whole bunch, this deal would also include a few hundered bucks worth of speaker wire and cords for the reciever btw. I live in White Lake MI 48383 and would be glad to set it up to show to a serious buyer, come over for an afternoon check it out, bring your favorite music cd or favorite dvd, I can hook up an hd antenna quick to view some local pbs or something, tv and all speaker equipment has been used by me (adult) and we have no pets and do not smoke. I will just have to send the wife and daughter out to lunch or something that day so we can turn it up a bit, but these DO sound awesome and the tv is also amazing in person, just this stuff never gets used literally not even hooked up at the moment. If interested and you live near White Lake MI 48383 please contact me at BillAustin@comcast.net You are welcome also to check out my ebay feedback (user name FTLOSM on ebay) http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedbackFromBuyers&userid=ftlosm&items=-1&item=-1&de=off I did think about putting stuff up on ebay but the idea of shipping this stuff doesn't appeal to me to be honest so I would really rather just deal locally if possible.
  2. I would sell these (part them out even) for reasonable prices etc - but not really into trying to ship these, just too big too heavy and worried about possible shipping damages, I realize this limits me to someone in mid michigan/detroit area but who knows maybe someone local will come in and see this and down the road get in touch with me to work out a deal or something, for me tho they aren't even being used so i am open to the option to let someone else buy and use them locally. Bill
  3. I just don't even use my home theater speaker setup,,, Between the wife who wears a hearing aid and screams if I turn something up, a 5 yr old who also hates loud stuff, and living in apartments where I could not turn it up to enjoy, I watch tv 99.999% of the time with no extra speakers on (tv speakers only). I have a set of rf-35s that I took from box hooked up used about a month on maybe 4 movies and reboxed for a move, moved and havent even unboxed them... They are 100% black. guessing 10 hours use total. My center is a RC3 and is all black too, very little use, lived in apt could not turn up, boxed up for that move, still sitting in box in den, was used with quintets for about a year but most of that year tv was watched without stereo on. For rears I use 2 quintets black, but also have 2 more quintets (2 of which were surrounds 2 were mains till i got the rf35s, still sound great just very little use or need here. Sub is the KSW 15 the bigone, can shake a house! but living in apt neighbors complained, moved and still havent hooked up system...this is my baby, i love this thing, but if wife or daughter are home 98% of time they complain so its off most every movie is audio thru tv only.... Thinking of selling this stuff since I never use it, what could I expect to get from these as a group sale (guestimates) all are black all arein great shape, rf35's used less than 10 hours TOTAL even.... If someone lives near white lake mI and wants to come see it or hear it (*can be hooked up) lmk, but at this point tryin to determine value... Bill not really into ebay or shipping these due to size and weight (huge heavy stuff)... open to trade stuff too if local, I am into guitars, GPS (want one for car), pcstuff, laptop, all sorts of things and of course $$$$
  4. Hey all, Just got my RF-35's yesterday, ran new 12 gauge wire thru the house, got the RC-3 center and RF-35's all hooked up (only new addition is the RF-35's), quintets as surrounds and KSW 15 sub complete the package. Went into my Onkyo menus, changed from small to large (for front speakers vs my old Quintets), just that sorta stuff,,, And I wondered is it true that a speaker has to be "broken in" in terms of listening time before it will produce its full effective tone and sound? Maybe I misunderstood it (read a few posts about breaking in speakers) and this all sounds good to me here and now, but wondered what is that whole breakin thing and is it true and what is the amount of time most agree on for a speaker to become broken in... Also has anyone really HEARD a difference from say hour 1 to hour 30 or something (whatever the breakin time is) Thanks for any help on that, Bill
  5. Neat page, the scroll to right is weird (top buttons would eliminate that) and the text (for me at least) on the right side of the pics was hard to read (color choices) more contrast between the two would be nice. Bill
  6. Howdy all, Just got my speaker wire (12 gauge sound king 100' from partsexpress). Seems like really nice stuff & nice to know I am finally getting my home theater put together with proper wire, upgraded speakers etc - all thanks to some help from the Klipsch forums here! Wanted to know which you all thought would be better for these wire ends (to connect to my RF-35's and my RC-3 Klipsch's). To strip the wire end, twist by hand and heat up wire and solder and coat the exposed ends with what I have here which is 60/40 solder http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=370-034 My thinking is so that the ends are more solid and one piece vs just exposed wire, and so it might help reduce the speed of corrosion? Or if I should go buy some spade lugs from Radio Shack like these www.radioshack.com/searchsku.asp?find=278-311 also does anyone know if they will even fit our Klipsch terminals? I wonder also how a "snap" connector works, guessing it's a crimp type? I decided to go against banana type connectors and will either just use the hole on the terminals (with or without solder depending on responses) or I will go buy some spade type connectors to make the connections with... Just was hoping to clarify the solder thing (should i or not) and or find out if those spades from radioshack (which are WAY more in my budget vs those $10 each ones from Monster etc) would work well or not. Seeing this is the actual first time I will be using good wire and hooking up nice new upgraded speakers and such figured i should ask and do it up the best I can... Or if there is a specific spade type terminal I can buy that is good quality yet doesn't break the bank to buy a set lmk what you all use... Bill
  7. Yendor, Just came across this post (new to the forums) and wondered is there any chance you were able to get another one or have an extra left? Or possibly what is the part number for this item (so I can check locally to see if any of my stores may have stock of them if they went on clearance recently). If so let me know, Thanks Bill StevePerryFan2001@yahoo.com -------------------------- 7-20-04 UPDATE: Yendor thanks for contacting me, the meter came in the mail today, it is great and I appreciate your fast response and help picking up one of these. Thanks again for the heads up and for the fast reply and sending it priority mail. Bill
  8. Hello, <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Yet another silly newbie question for you all (BTW thanks for all the advice so far from previous questions I am finally feeling like I am understanding my options, choices and setup moreso than ever before). Ok this question is about my KSW 15 powered sub, and I will try to make it as short as possible. I have an Onkyo TX DS575 receiver, 5 channels 75 watts per channel, on the back panel there is a Subwoofer PRE OUT RCA style connector (just one). My KSW 15 sub has an rca style LFE jack (only one) as well as a set of LINE IN R&L rca style inputs. To be totally honest I got the sub, plugged it in, turned the level to 6, plugged a thick RCA style video cable I had as a spare from the LFE output on the receiver to a Y cable and put that into the two L&R inputs on the sub and left the sub on 24/7, it worked & sounded good, so I never fiddled with it (I was also in an apartment so I never really got to excercise the subs capabilities). Now I am in a house and have begun the process of upgrading speakers, wires, etc and want to get the most out of setting this system up RIGHT. KSW 15 sub, Two mains are gonna be RF-25 or RF-35s (havent decided yet) Two rear surrounds are Quintets (for now) Center is a RC-3 On the speakers I will be using a 14 gauge sound king wire (thanks again to your guys help on gauge and maker of a decent wire). And I just want to set this sub up properly, If I go with the LFE on the receiver to the one single LFE input on the sub and remove my current Y cable to the L&R RCA inputs on the back of the sub, can I then turn the power switch to AUTO (vs on all the time) so that it will detect bass and kick the sub power on as needed ? I am 99% sure I tried this before and it didnt seem to want to kick ON for me unless there was a lot of bass in the movie or a huge long explosion, but maybe I just did it wrong... Also on the back of the sub there are other options I dunno about , what is sad is that I did download the pdf of the KSW 15 off the site here and was more confused after reading it than before! First off are in and outs for speakers, I never ran any of my speakers thru the sub, always ran everything directly thru the receiver is that wrong? The PHASE switch is the only one that made sense to me, and i couldn't tell the difference on 0 or 100 to be honest.... Lowpass, range of 40 to 120, I am guessing this is where you want the cutoff for the bass (in combo with your speaker choice) my speakers will most likely be RF 35s so they go down into the 37 hz range, so should I adjust my sub to go into the low ranges (say 50 or less) and let the RF 35s carry everything above that? Or do I run the fronts from the receiver to the speaker inputs on the sub then from the sub to the speakers (and it somehow makes a cutoff of the mains so the sub handles bass and the mains are restricted internally by the sub? Or am I not really understanding how that works? Currently I have it set in the middle around 90 and again I have never hooked up speakers TO the sub, only that one RCA line from the receiver to the sub for bass sound. Thanks for input on this, just wanna make sure when I do get my main speakers (probably the RF 35s) that I come home, use good wires, do it right, set it up right and get the most bang for my buck so to speak by setting it up properly. Bill
  9. Hello all, I have the Klipsch Quintets and a KSW 15 sub, I have replaced the Quintet center with the RC-3, and am about to replace the two front Quintets with RF-25's or 35's (haven't quite made up my mind yet, but within a week or so I should have a set of 25's or 35's), and I NEED to upgrade wire - since I am just using this thin 22 gauge wire from radioshack. The 22 gauge stuff is just a spool I had in my closet and when I moved recently so it is what I reached for, hasn't been setup this way with that wire for very long really, I had some decent in wall thick (12ish) gauge wire before but left it in the walls at the old place. My amp is an Onkyo DS 575 (5 channels 75 watts per channel) and above are my speaker choices, basically what is a good gauge and what is a good company for quality/yet not break the bank priced wire. I was looking at SOUND KING 14 gauge wire (100 foot spool), and wondered are they any good, I don't wanna blow $300 on wire, but figured in the $75 to $100 range is something I could afford for all my wire. My two mains and center wouldn't need more than about 10 feet each (30 feet total) and my rears I am looking at about 30 feet each so (60 feet total) for rears, so I am thinking a 100 foot spool should do me up fine for all my wire needs. Gauge I'm guessing 14 would be good enough??? Company who makes good stuff at reasonable costs ??? I saw some "sound king" brand online and thought that was pretty reasonable price wise, but are there any companies who you all recommend or better yet that I should stay away from? And connector wise, I thought I would go with banana style posts and just plug them into my Klipschs, but I actually talked to a guy at the stereo store who said they only use those clips to change speakers out fast and easy, for home use they recommended using "spade" type connectors (almost like a 2 prong Y shaped), is that what most of you all use too? Lastly question on my KSW 15 sub, currently from the amp to the sub I am using a coax wire that is actually a big thick spare video cable, is that type of cable (designed for video) ok to use for the sub? It always seemed to ROCK the room before, but I never demanded much of it volume wise , but will be soon as I slowly build this new home theater setup, If that cable is not ok to use, then what should I be looking for when getting Sub RCA type connection wire... Basically I have had all this stuff in an apartment and hooked up cheap wires, kept levels down low, now that I am in a HOUSE and have started to upgrade various speakers and such I am wanting it to sound as good as possible, so hence after buying new speakers and wanting to get the most out of them, I have many wire & connector questions... Any info given will be much appreciated. Bill
  10. Ok I have all Klipsch speakers, and have been upgrading lately (from my quintets) to new fronts (RF-35's), new center (RC-3) bigger sub (KSW-15) etc etc anyways I am basically stepping it all up a notch part by part quality wise slow but sure... Here comes the question, with the Quintets I never felt the need to have good wires or good connectors, I just went and bought a cheap spool of thin 22 gauge wire from radioshack, actually just someting I had for surrounds but used for mains and center too cuz I had extra, cut it and screwed the terminals down pos and neg on each speaker. Now that I am in the process of re-doing my home theater room and have started to upgrade equipment (to something I want to do right, those quintets are something I had for 3 yrs on their own before upgrading) & of course I am questioning the thin cheap wire I bought and the way I connect them. When I was at a local shop listening to the Klipsh line, the guy had these long gold spike type connectors, bam bam he was in and out of those connectors putting another set of speakers on (plugging them into the center hole of the terminals not unscrewing them and using the side holes), what are those types of connectors called and are they better than running wire thru the side hole and screwing it down? Secondly, wire wise, what is the gauge or brand (at a reasonable cost per foot) that I should look into for my fronts and center (RF-35 & RC-3) I know the thin cheapo stuff I am currently using is probably not good... Lastly and I bet this does matter when asking about this stuff is the amp, its an Onkyo DS 575 with 5 channels of 75 watts each, LOVE the amp gets PLENTY loud enough and seems pretty clear and smooth match for my Klipsch's so for now or until it breaks I am not looking to upgrade that piece. Thanks so much for helping me on what is probably such a basic question, I just feel like now that I am upgrading the equipment for maximum enjoyment (based on my pocketbook) hehe that I should also do the wires up right too and those connectors he was using looked really fast sweet and neat so I was hoping you all could fill me in on a good choice for both wire and connectors at a reasonable price point. Bill
  11. Ok I went in today to a local shop, Listened to the Quintets (what I have now), the RB-35's, the RF-15's and the SF-2's (surprised they had a set of SF-2's) side by side, quintets blown away by all (as I knew)... RB-35's , well not bad but I liked the style of the floorstanding units... So onto the SF-2 and RF-15's - both thru same amp same CD (with switcher), back forth back forth, switch a/b/a/b/a/b/a/b 10 mins later, even eyes closed so I didnt know, everytime I was picking the RF-15's... So I have narrowed it down to the RF-15's (or higher) didnt listen to RF-25 or 35's (I ran out of time) I DO plan to go back tho soon and do the side by side of the RF-15 and RF-25's and maybe even the 35's for side by sides and I will probably buy a set that day too. Can anyone tell me ABOUT what I should expect to pay (decent price) for a set of two black RF-15's or RF-25's (mabye even the 35's)... Just trying to get an idea if the shop I was at was competitive or not, they want $575ish for a pair of black RF-15's I didn't get the pricing on the 25's but I thought he mentioned if i went up to the next in that series it would be about $200 more, but I didnt get into $200 more for a set of RF-25's or $200 more PER speaker for each RF-25 etc etc.. (again I ran out of time UGHHHHH and had to get going).... But before I go flash the visa, have any of you all sat down side by side and gave a listen to the RF-15 and RF-25 or even RF-35 and if so what were your honest thoughts sound wise, much different???? Also if you all could help me determine what fair prices are for the 15,25, and 35's and if those are decent prices that I was quoted on the RF-15's - I would greatly appreciate any input. Bill
  12. Ok I am just gonna ask this cuz I am somewhat green about these things, First what happened to my RC-3 center channel, do they just not even carry it anymore? (I see an RC-35 now but that is the closest). Second, is the Reference Series a step up from the Synergy Series in true audio quality? In other words would a set of RB-35's sound better than a set of SB-3's ?? I heard the SB-3's and wasn't impressed with them (at best buy) but taking someones recommendation here I would seek out trying to find those RB-35's and give them a listen as a possible alternative to my first choice (what I liked when I heard them SF-2's). Third and final question for the moment LOL, If I own the RC-3 Center are other R series units made to match it somehow sound wise better than the S series? Hoping when I call these places tomorrow they at least have the RB-35's to give a listen to in person, would be NICE if they had the SF-2's also (for side by side) but I know the SF-2's on their own sounded MUCH better than the SB-3's and BOTH the SB-3 and the SF-2 blew away my two mains I have been using for 3 years (quintets)... Thanks for putting up with me and being so patient about answering my novice questions. Bill
  13. Im a dork, I dunno why when I did that search that it only brought up Best Buys, thanks so much for the info, I am gonna try to check out that one in lansing tomorrow (just walk in) cuz its been a while since I was in a good home theater store... Bill
  14. My only problem is that I can't find a local dealer (besides best buy - who doesnt even carry the rb-35) and I would really like to hear them before buying them, I did listen to the sb-1, sb-2, sb-3 series bookshelf speakers at best buy and I was not impressed (especially listening next to the SF-2's or SF-3's)... I don't even mind the quintets for the 2 rear surrounds, but for the two front mains (paired up as quintets right now with an RC-3 center and a ksw 15 sub) the quintets for 2 front main seem to be lacking to me - and I have spent a good deal of time in the Onkyo settings menus, trying small and large settings things like that... Those RB-35's look neat and all and it would be great if I could HEAR them somewhere but that I know of (thru the Klipsch site) my dealers (best buy is the only one showing) dont even carry them... Anyone live near East Lansing Michigan and wanna help a guy out (listening party at my place or yours with some SB-35's?) Bill
  15. Hey all, Just found these forums and am enjoying reading and seeing all of your setups! Mine is a work in progress so far here is what I have going... http://www.ftlosm.homestead.com/Home_Theater.html Only real additions not mentioned on that website above are comcasts newest PVR HDTV Box (Motorola 6208), a great unit all in all, and being able to record HDTV is awesome with it, but so far in my area they only have 5 HDTV channels, hopefully more will come soon... My next goal is to replace my two main fronts (currently 2 quintets) with two SF-2's (read my post on the home theater forum about replacing fronts cuz I am looking for input from folks who have upgraded from Quintets to floorstanding units like the SF-2's). Anyways great forum great thread, hope to see and read more... Bill Austin East Lansing MI StevePerryFan2001@yahoo.com
