    Mr. Atkinson,

After browsing your website, I am unclear as to your status as a Klipsch authorized dealer. On honoring warranties, it seems that your company will honor warranty issues independently?

Klipsch has an explicit warning (on this very website) against purchasing Klipsch products fron non authorized dealers. I'd think you'd want to clear up this question as soon as possible.

Everone is assuming he is affiliated with that web site (and posted the link for free publicity). But he said that he is a legit Klipsch dealer who can't compete with the on-line web.

As a potential customer, I do find it a bit disconcerting that speakers have a mark-up of 66% to 100%! Luckily for me, I'm more interested in the vintage Heritage stuff and I'm not likely to ever buy that new. I know of no Heritage dealers in Quebec anyway.

  2. By the time I decide, I'm sure the KV-4 will be sold.... but what do you guys think?

KV-4 or single Heresy as center for La Scala? I have heard neither of them.

    I'm thinking the Heresy's 3-way is a better sonic/timber match. Am I right?

Or does the inherent goodness of a true horizontal center (with wider dispersion?) better?

    Thanks!

  3. Actually, I'm in canada too, making it cheaper (no brokerage).

I can't find a pcture of it; where can I find one? What does it look like?

It's pretty cheap... I'm in the process of getting a very cheap single Heresy (about C$180 shipped)

that has been painted black. The Heresy is a 3-way Heritage and I'm thinking it might be a better match to La Scala's...

What do you think? Single Heresy (C$180) or KV-4 (C$400 shipped)?

A truly powerful amplifier has twice as much power into 4-ohms as it does into an 8-ohm load. A super amplifier, like the Pass x250 (EnjoyTheMusic.com review on classic Klipsch corner Khorns, see archives) has even more power: twice as much yet again into 2-ohms!

On the www.quebecaudio.com forum a few days ago, someone was bragging that he was going to buy a CREEK A50I integrated amp and posted a picture and specs, which included:

Power output (both channels) 50W into 8 Ohms -

Power output (one channel) 60W into 4 Ohms -

    Max current > 18 amps -

I posted that it wasn't encouraging that such an expensive amplifier has poor lower impedance specs; it can't drive nearly double wattage into 4 ohms as it does into 8 ohms (into a single channel at that!), and yields only 18 amp of current. My much much cheaper h/k avr-325 pumps out 35 amps.

I was shot down by snob audiophiles that say there's more to an amp than specs and so forth. Perhaps, but I think it should at least begin with good specs (otherwise why even post them?). A cheap amp that doesn't sound very good might also have managed to get good specs, but I think a amp without them probably isn't very good to begin with.

  5. Thanks guys! I'll have to listen for these effects carefully to see if I can hear them (and not blame my 31 year-old AA crossovers! 2.gif)

Then I'll read up on Rope Caulk. The Dynamat stuff looks fairly expensive for the quantities needed (unless the whole horn doesn't need to be caulked).

Thanks again! This guy is keeping his La Scala's!!

  6. Well, I listed the prices in my initial post if you look again:

    USPS Airmail Parcel Post (4 - 10 Days) US$55.25

FedEx International ground (9 days) US$48.65

With USPS, I'll be charged 15% tax on the value of the goods plus a C$5 handling fee.

With FedEx, I'll likely be charged the same 15% tax and an unknown and variable brokerage fee.

I may go FedEx to get tracking; the difference in price will likely end up being similar unless FedEx has really outrageous brokerage fees.

PSG - The Belle might work for you. It is a couple inches shorter than the La Scala (with base removed). I inverted mine - see attachment.

Wow! That looks heavy on that TV! And huge! 1.gif

A single Heresy will be on the way shortly. I'll try that first anyway.

    Thanks!

  8. I've been doing a bit of searching with google, and it appears that all packages that go through FedEx go through a custom broker and the rate varies depending on the broker that handled your package, with no way to know in advance. The $7 price difference might cover it, or it might not. I don't know if they charge a flat rate or a percentage.

  9. While the Elite's are generally much better built than Pioneer's, the gap is smaller on the

Pioneer VSX-1014TX, $367.99 at www.etronics.com. It's supposed to be pretty close to the Elite 52.

They also have the Pioneer VSX-D914K for $310 and the Pioneer VSX-D814-S for $240.

Over at www.ecost.com, they have the Harman/Kardon AVR-235 for $349.22

Personally, I'd go h/k 235 over all the Pioneers except the VSX-1014TX.

All of these have all pre-outs.

  10. Since you're looking for all pre-outs, I'll just mention that this was a criteria of mine when I purchased a receiver last winter. You need to go fairly up in the Denon line-up to get that (except in this year's models). Pretty much all harmon/kardon's have them except the lowest, the avr-130. The Pioneer D812 and D912 were low cost and had pre-outs, but I don't think they compare to h/k for quality. You could also look at NAD. Last year's NAD T742 is cleared for $399 (not has few features) and the T752 for a bit more (much more features). Look for factory refurbs at www.ecost.com.

    Hope this helps a little...

  11. " and the box resonance of the plywood cabinet systems, gave a boxy, underdamped frequency hang over to the bass response."

I'd say he hit that dead on. See what a cabinet brace looks like:

Looks like a modded La Scala. Has anyone ever tried this mod on a La Scala to see if it makes a difference?

Anyway, I can't hear a hang after a quick bass note...

    - "The most common disadvantage is a resonance in the throat of the horn that comes from an underdamped structure."

25 years ago VanAlstine was beating the drum for Moretite on the K400 throat and horn.

The fact that the 'new' K400 is made of plastic changes how the resonances sound, it doesn't eliminate them.

    What does that sound like?

Can you feel a vibration it by putting your hand on the horn?
