Would the RC-64 or 62 get you in the ball park? I've got corns and would like to jump up to some 5.1 action. Not to hijack a thread or anything.
I think most will say no.But I ran the rc-64ii with the corns when i first got them and had them in my ht. I also ran a quartet but the rc-64ii is a much better speaker than a quartet so i would use the 64 if i had to chose one of the two.
Indeed surprising yet intriguing information! Was any AVR room EQ applied that might have evened out tonal differences?

Either might just work!
I'd go for the cove myself.

or for surrounds, the KPT-100 probably still available in the garage Sale section are nice.

From the way back machine- Klipsch LaScala K- 447 only $440.00 each new! Don't cry, shipping was free.

Last night's movie: Red 2
I was startled several times by explosions and gun shots; lots of impact!

I have a question for you sub gurus. I have a cove that is designed for older TV's (I have a DLP in there right now). When I redo this, I will add a flat screen and build a panel across the front of this cove. I will have a space behind the TV where a big Tuba HT can fit (the 36 x 36 x 24 will fit).
Will the vibrations affect the TV?
What will the exit need to look like? I ask because I can also build a long skinny tuba and put it under the fireplace and have a relatively big exit if needed (which I assume that I need).
Thanks.
The THT itself won't vibrate but I suppose a panel in front of it might, so hard to say. Now if you mounted the TV on the THT itself, that would be pretty safe. It it a good spot for a sub?
It is a good spot in that it is large and can hide the sub completely away without taking up any floor space. I am talking about mounting it up several feet off of the ground in a cove in the wall behind a TV. I can overbuild the panel for the TV to be mounted (probably out of 4 x 4's).
There is also a spot in the same cove on the floor under the fireplace. I can create corner more of a corner load there but it will take up space that I wanted to use for storage. The space behind the TV is completely wasted space.
Cool. Post a pic of the space in the context of the room!

Very cool. Yet another feature to make AVRs obsolete.

I resized your pic to 800x800 before uploading it.
I think Chad could have easily resized all the old large pics when he moved them over. He could still. It's easy enough to script (just a few lines of shell script in Linux).

And now for something completely different... KHorns don't have funky impedance curves and are easy to drive. I use an external amp but don't really hear the difference if I use it or not. Maybe I am limited by the pre-amp of my cheap HK receiver, but it sounds great to me with texture in string intruments and pin-point imaging.

Just topped it off:

That link is broken with the new forum, but I am almost sure this is the (resized) picture, since I had saved it.
So for the benefit of others...

With his skills he'd be crazy not to build it...

Great score! You will love them! If you are up to soldering one wire in, there's a simple crossover mod to remove the X-Curve high-frequency attenuation. Takes 10 minutes per speaker (and allows you to take a peek inside!)
-
My question is "why would you buy a receiver and an amp"?
Because my AVR is cheaper than a pre/pro.

Those look more familiar. But I suppose EMs had to start somewhere too, so maybe the first one posted was an early one.

I think I remember this image came from an electron microscope.
That would be surprising. Electron microscope have gains of up to 10 million X. The detail would be much much higher than on that image. A colleague is using CT scan to image plankton and showed examples made using an electron microscope. Impressive stuff.

I have a 103" in a 14 x 14 room I want to go wider but that would mean the screen would also go taller and right now its from the 8' ceiling to the top of my front speakers... ill go bigger in the next house.
That's what AT screens are for!

Never seen that!
Here is a review.... http://www.andrew-robinson-online.com/review-airflex5d-af5d-30-projector-stacking-system/
Interesting, thanks!

Can't use a sub and a dac at the same time?
No point, unless the DAC has an embedded crossover and two outputs and a volume control. The analog signal from the DAC will be digitized again in the AVR to apply bass management. Unless you use a sub with speaker-level inputs and let it do the bass management.
OP avr only does 85 watts. My VF 36 Icon with the same power rating needed a power amp to really sing. Once we get started in this hobby, it is natural to want more and a good 5 channel amp is not much more than a 2 or 3 channel amp. Future proofing is not a bad ideal.
Except that there's only 4 dB between 80W and 200W and driving the speakers to 200W will lead to compression anyway. If 200W were required for speakers to sound good, then they would have very little dynamic range. I listen with volumes appropriate to the content. You might want 100W peaks for drums, but be very happy with a jazz trio at 1/100th W.
If the impedance curve of the RF-82 difficult? Otherwise, HK receivers are still high-current and should be able to handle a normal load, specially in stereo when only two of them are in use. Tough call.

Don't know why you posted this in the subwoofer section though. You might get a few more responses in the 2 channel area.
Not as bad now in the HT forum!

6 dB. Two closely-spaced speakers playing the same level increases SPL by 6 dB.

I get the same. The lowest zero dB crossing occurs at 30 Hz and falls below that rather quickly for me. Still better than their rating.
