  1. Yes they match up. Both are very clean subs, the Servo 15 takes the prize for most neutral, clean sub below 2K.

I had the original Servo 15,then moved to the newer Servo 15 with the switching(Seismic) amp and now I use the Signature 25. A real monster with still...more output. Paradigm's upper class usbs are very capable(SQ,built quality and output).

  2. I have the Custom 3 ,the top of the line in this series. Sound quality is very very good,it is unfortunate you have to work to get a good seal but once it is achieved..they sound GREAT.As with all in ear a goodseal is a must to judge the SQ.

I have the Custom 3, X10's and Image S4. Klipsch has surprised me with the SQ of these tiny headphones. Overall above average among competition, the UE11's are clearly better but at over $1200(with shipping) plus the fee for the ear molds...they better be.

Also of note I found the built quality of the Custom 3 to be very good, try the Shure 530's...these use lousy quality cables, make the Klipsch look like gold.

  3. Marvel,

The speakers in your pics are GORGEOUS! Shows the builder took his time and invested the time well. And I am sure they sound at least as good as they

look if the crossover is preoperly designed.

TAD drivers are first class quality and performance ,they have nothing to fear from JBL Pro units. TAD and JBL drivers in many aspects are very close.

  4. How loud is too loud?

Over 90dB for extended periods of time is too loud,100Hz up and in the upper registers you will harm your hearing. It may take years for mild hearing loss but it is real. I usually listen at ~80dB with peaks that can go beyond 110dB(short peaks). Headphone abuse is a major case of hearing loss and loud N proud car systems. Going to concerts and standing in the first rows is a sure ticket to speedy N stupid hearing loss.

In the very low frequency range levels of over 110dB will not be close to damaging your hearing,as hearing sensitivity is ..drops.

    So...

Listen at a level that you can ENJOY for hours, not at opressive levels. Blasting music is pointless. With the gear I have I can break windows out of sheer SPL,but I only reached dangerous SPL once, I am not ready to lose hearing to impress the bums of this world.

  5. There are many levels of sound card value...

The least expensive I would consider for music is the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI and as an all around card the X-Fi Music/Gamer(great low cost cards).

Next up we move in quality...and price

    MOTU 828mk3(really like mine)

and here we are in the purist ubber class...

RME Fireface 400(love mine,Made in Germany...top quality all around, the BWM M6 of sound cards)

lastly we have APOGEE's multi unit combos...more expensive tham nost speaker setups members of these forums own so...[:#]

  6. Always protect your electronic gear with a quality power bar/conditioner.I have lost gear in the past due to a mishap when the electric company was doing repairs and ZAP. Since then I have it all protected ,bills saved and insurance, pictures(and owners of the stores where I buy that can reprint the bills and validate my claims).

You should at least get the value of the fried gear and add the extra to get what you want. Insurance companies have many clauses and hidden BS, just to give the least possible. Know what is yours and claim it.

  7. Bill,

Dynaudio Acoustics (Dynaudio's pro division) monitors can be best described as natural, open, defined and are capable of world class image and soundstaging. With minimal coloration. These however do not like wall proximity placement,Yamaha monitors for example can be placed closer to walls with less ill effect on performance.

In the $1000 range the BM 5A is contender for best price performance ratio with the ADAM A5. The A5 has a more detailed tweeter (some may describe as agressive, it is not is reveals all the good and the very ugly). Both are a joy to listen to.

These are my new PC desktop speakers.

  8. Hello fellow Klipschers ,

After a slight break from audio I have decided to try(buy) the finest headphones and earplugs made. Last night I purchased FIVE "earplug" type units(Klipsch X-10,Image-3,Shure530,Grado GR8 and Sennheiser IE-),the UE 11 are custom so it may take a few weeks before I post my review.

I will be also doing a comparo of full size headphones( Sennheiser HD600/650/800,Grado SR125/225/325/RS1/ PS1000, Denon AH-D5000/7000, AKG 701/702 and maybe one or two more upscale units from the known players). That will come in december. For reference I use my Headroom MAX headphone amp as well as the Grado dual 9V cell powered amp and a class A Creek unit.

So far from the preliminary listening I can tell the in ear units offer stellar midrange reproduction at the expense of deep bass performance(save for two units that do quite well). For monitoring a few of these in ear headphones are superb,as long as the source does not contain very low frequency content.I have for refrence also five pairs of powered studio monitors from Genelec,Focal,Dynaudio,Adam and Yamaha.

Sound cards used are the MOTU 828mk3 and RME Fireface 400 plus I have my Creative X-Fi Fatality (general gaming card).I have also the Presonus Monitor Station and Central Station/remote (switchers for monitors, inputs).

I will start posting next week my observations, no favoritism here ...if it sounds great I will post about it. If I can hear faults I will report. One thing is a given , all the in ears have audible limitations(these do not distract as they are near the bottom of the frequency spectrum),all range from very good to stellar in the vocal range and upper registers.Insulation contributes to the clean sound as outside noise(even in a quiet room) is reduced . I have not head the UE 11 as I said I should get these in my mitts in a few weeks, and from what i have read i am expecting a near sonic miracle (the price is clearly over a grand with the custom fitting).

I will post a few preliminary pics shorthly...[:D]

I will post pics of the other headphones as i get them (on order).

  9. askbob1,

SVS's Ultra13 has more output below 30hz than the f113, in its "natural" 20Hz tune. When you start blocking the ports to change the tune(lower it) you end up with an underported sub. The best use of the SVS Ultra13 is in the native 20hz tune, all three ports open. With room gain we en up with solid output down to around ~14hz.

There are plenty of options in quality subs these days. The Ultra13 being near the top in terms of price/performance.

  10. DrWHO,

Thanks for the honest repply,I apreciate and value good input. KRK have what I call a round(gently rolled)top end ,the popular ROOKIT are not accurate at all.If people only knew how much better Yamaha monitors are...if they only left fabricated prejudice at home.

Realistic's Minimus 7's are classics,I had a pair in white...gave them away. The RatShack had them on special for $99/pair back in the 90's and at that time I was very impressed with my purchase. Then they came with the Minimus 77 if memory serves me well, the mid-bass a 5" in the place of the 4" all in a larger alu cabinet.

For headphones I tend to favor AKG of late(701's), but prefer open back cans(homeuse of course).

Yes TAD does make monitors(at least for the Japanese/Asian/Euro markets mostly). They are very expensive(well what upscale monitors are not) from what I have gathered frompeople who used them...very JBL like.Since they are based(inspired...) by JBL.

  11. You bet,and detailed pics. The Paradigm Signature Sub1 is like a Klipsch Reference RT12d on steroids with no PR's. SIX active drivers on three sides( a la Martin Logan Descent).Around 300lbs,the unit should be out in October..I will bug the dealer and Paradigm every day to get one ASAP.

Man this hobby will ruin me(and my back)lifting some of the gear starts to get dangerous.

  12. Yes sonotumes are made with concrete forms, close them with two to four layers(3/4" thick each) of MDF/birch ply and you have the enclosure. Inexpensive, fast build and brings great results. Cannot be beat for the money and ease of built.

  13. DrWHO,

SOME room gain, excuse me SOME! In a room any room there PLENTY of room gain. A sub will measure as much as 10dB higher below 30hz ...take that same great performer GP ...outside and watch the performance drop like a stone.

One thing I agree and...we all use our subs inside and not GP so...[:P]

Yes the RSW15 is a cleaner sub, however measured GP the f113 as pesky as it is has more output(before audible distortion makes itself known)kicks in.

Good to have someone to argue a bit. Nothing personal.

Now changing the subject a bit...what brands(models) of studio monitors do you prefer? Yes studio monitors, strictly for monitoring and as "flat" say neutral as possible.I have purchased Genelec's 8030's and 8050's as well as the larger 1039's(third largest and still huge and ...ah mucho moolah...too much).I find these babies are very neutral and sound amazing. The new Yamaha MSP and HS series are quite good(for the price) again quite neutral(with the small irregularities that made the classic Yamah NS10M so popular ).

Next KH(Klein + Hummel) caught my attention , very Genelec like. Dynaudio's AIR lineup is quite something too, these have that non fatiguing top end that while not as clinical as the KH or Genelec does not detract from neurality...too much. KRK's nothing special,in fact too rolled off(I did not hear the Expose).

ADAM are very nice, incredible detail thanks to the tweeter they use and in the upscale models the great Hexacone mid-bass(ETON?).A bit fatiguing ,the rest all being good.

I have to listen to some upscale JBL's and TAD.

  14. Bill H,

Thanks, I was bored at work..well during my few minutes of free time so I had to take a peak on my forum. [:P] To see just how far the zealots with the Green Cricket at the helm are profanating the altar of GeeL Audio. Actually I moved to better things myself like the Paradigm Signature SUB 1 I will get a hold of and the dozen TCSounds DIY's.

Anyway ,good to see you people are still doing good and participate.

  15. A thread older than the great Pyramids is back. And I cannot disagree with Deon...the magnetic structure being only one part og the motor...hey the voicecoil(design),suspension(spyder(s))...do have their say in the performance end. [;)]

  16. Marketing...BS. Yes sir, BAG END 8Hz claim has a nice thick sugar coating around it. 8Hz at what output? What use is the 8Hz is the output is very low,so low you are hard pressed to notice it ?!

The good ole sonotube(giant toilet paper roll)ported with a low cost 15 or 18" driver with ~20mm of Xmax or more will batter the BagEnd in the audible and in the infrasonic band.Sonotubes can be tuned around 10Hz if need bee(and space permits).

  17. CAS,

I will tell you WHY "records" sound "better". The myth is all in the sauce, the sauce here is a rolled off upper range and reduced peaks, a softer more "natural" sound results. Yes it does sound "better" but it is not accurate.

Try listen to a drum live , it can strain your hearing. Now listen to a great DIGITAL uncompressed(as little as possible) recording, again it will be straining , now listen on the LP...ahhhh so musical ...[:D]

It is like tubes, they round off and soften the Jell-O. Sound better no?

  18. Two Klipsch THX subs will ougun a single SVS Ultra13 over most of the frequency range and over the audible.SQ both supply A1 quality, you have to try it and listen, compare A/B to decide if it is worth the expense.

Compared price to price you get two Ultra13's,you best the dual THX. Simply more output where it counts, down deep.Simply higher displacement SVS VS Klipsch.
