I wanted to check out the forum first if anyone is interested before I go another route. I have a brand-new factory sealed Monster Cable Home Theater PowerCenter HTS 2000 MKII. Selling for $100 shipped fedex/ups ground within the US only. Lowest price in pricegrabber is around $146. If you are interested, PM me.
Thanks

Pricing is not that bad at all IMO.
-------------------------------
The
High Definition format battle heats up with Sony Pictures taking the
first swing by announcing the studio's first Blu-ray Disc movie pricing structure.
The company announced today that a portfolio of Blu-ray Disc movies
will come to suppliers at a slightly increased market price of $23.45.
This puts the price of Blu-ray movies approximately 15% higher,
compared to what suppliers are charging now for new release DVDs. Other classic Blu-ray Disc titles will sell for $17.95.
"The
premium is for a way better format and to remind retailers that at the
time we launched DVD, VHS was selling for $55 wholesale in the first
window," Benjamin Feingold, President of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment explained. "The higher pricing structure for new releases is meant to accommodate the sell-through and rental markets."
Sony
Pictures also announced that the DVD-UMD bundles would slowly turn into
BDR-UMD bundles in the future. On March 28th, consumers can buy DVD-UMD
packs of The Grudge, Resident Evil, Underworld, Crouching Tiger, Hidden
Dragon and Terminator. Each pack will be priced at $28.95.
"With the
launch of Blu-ray, we're going to try to introduce the managed-copy
concept, where if you buy Blu-ray you'll be able to get additional
versions (of the same title) to use in your home. Ultimately,
we might even get to the point where we'll offer consumers the ability
to have different versions of the same movie on different devices in
the home -- that's something we're working on."

OK I checked all my connections and it looks ok. I still hear that
faint music but I noticed that they only come from the REAR speakers.
*sigh*
-
But why would I only hear it on one speaker and not all? Amyway, I'll
check my connections tonite when I get home. The only unit I added
recently was the Xbox360.
-
I have 5.1 setup - REF35 series. Recently I noticed when playing xbox, I
hear a very faint music coming from one of my rear speaker (right side)
when sound is dead. It sounds like an FM radio transmission or
something. What do I need to check to remove this sound or am I stuck
with it?

I went ahead and ordered this Tripp Lite line conditioner. Best price anywhere out there. Goodbye to Monster Crapola! I feel a lot better now! []
-
Yeah, the drive is LOUD. I was pretty annoyed
by that too. I usually just crank up the Klipsch! hehe
I guess we are the lucky few because we have Klipsch to "MASK" the
noise. [] I pity all those gazillion gamers out there who have
to endure this "pain".
-
Anyone actually have one of these? How is it? Just curious!
I got one and I really like it a lot. I only use it for games so I
don't stream MP3's or watch DVDs on it. I play Call of Duty 2, 720P to
my HDTV and it looks great. I love the online multiplayer games too.
Some unit have been having problems, hang-ups, heating up, etc. but I
have never had the problem...so far. The unit and especially the power
supply is really heavy compared to a PS2. Weight comparison is to like
a big notebook (Dell XPS M170). Wireless controller design is superb
and doesn't feel cheap. Overall, great unit IMO.
Only thing I can say bad about this unit is THE DRIVE IS SO NOISY when playing a game!!!! Geezzeee, the loud "whirring" sound is starting to annoy me.
-
I sent the defective unit back last year and received a brand new one
on the first week of January. Nice! I removed my APC AVR and directly
connected the powercenter to my Tripplite LC1800 (which imo performs
better than the APC).
While playing Xbox, all power to my HT went dead and the powercenter
started making that continous noise/alarm again. Just like the first
one, the unit died on me but this time, no voltage tripping, no
nothing! [:^)]
Good thing, all my HT equipment was not affected. Only the powercenter which I now assume was defective in some way.
** RANT FOLLOWS **
Last Monday called up monster for support. Was able to talk to a
customer rep. She was polite and everything at first. When I told her
the situation and learned that this is my second RMA, her tone of voice
and attitude changed. Gave a new RMA number and when I asked for the
mailing address, she kindda snapped back at me saying " don't you
already have it?". Told her I sent it out a month ago, hesitated a
little but gave it to me at the end. The attitude really pis#ed me off
and gave her my thoughts about it in a civilized manner. She told me if
she I want to file a complaint, I can talk to her supervisor. I said
OK, patch me up. After a few minutes waiting, I ended up with the
operator! I asked the operator to connect me to the customer service
supervisor, left a voice mail and contact number and never heard back
from anyone again.
The experience really cemented my decision not to purchase any more
product from that company in the future (not that I bought any recently
- hehe). As a matter of fact, if they do replace this unit with a new
one, it's going directly to eBay!

Sad news. Hope everything turns out ok for you and your family. I
remember when my grand father was on his death bed several years ago. I
held his hand and whispered to him, that if he sees my grand mother
(who passed away earlier) calling after him, go with her. You just hate
to see your love ones suffer. And yes, endings are always beginnings of
beautiful things.
-
I'm not sure which speakers he's got, but I know he's a fan of big woofers.
Who isn't? hehe

If it was Wal*Mart, Best?Buy, Sircut
City, or any other Amalgamated Amalgamations Amalgamated corporate
entity, I would *NOT HESITATE* about "buying" a product, using it for a
couple of weeks,
and returning it when I didn't need it any
more. I would also pay cash if possible, and give a fake name and
address when I returned it.
You could look at it that way but the thing is, it never hurts their bottom line.
If they can't sell the items and depending upon their agreement with
the original manufacturer, they return it to the them and gets credit
back. Now the manufacturer is tasked to liquidate it and sometimes they
do at a lost. If the manufacturer is not earning or breaking even, go
figure the consequences thereafter. So you see, there is a bigger
picture here than meets the eye.
I for one used to have the same thinking as most of the forum members
when dealing with these big companies I guess. However, when I started
to work for my company, I began to see a clearer picture on how the
business cycle goes about especially when you are dealing with these
heavy weights. I tell you, it's like the game "SIMON SAYS"!
-
Nope, no restocking fee at most places (Wal$Mart and Best Buy I know
for sure). Although while Best Buy discounts the returned items,
Wal$Mart just tapes them shut and does sell them as new. Yet one more
reason not to shop there IMO.
It also depends on the items being sold. My company does business with
a lot of these chain stores selling readers and sunglasses. Items
returned by consumers are usually shipped back to us and we get a
chargeback bill. What killed my company was when this "Powerful
Company" went directly to our supplier bypassing us (ohh and some of
our valued employees I believe ended up working for them). My company
filed for bankruptcy because we lost a huge percentage of our business
when they did that. Ohh well, it was good until it lasted.

Just finished the game over the weekend on my
gamecube and can honestly say it has to be one of the best games i have
ever played. Resident evil 5 is due out sometime in 2006 for the
xbox 360...then I will purchase the new xbox
That's exactly how I felt when I played Resident Evil 1 for PS1. Hmmm...fun memories!
-
Well, it's not exactly on purpose...
Think about it. The final hardware structure for the 360 until
about August (the betas were shown at E3, but those weren't
final). So they had from August to November to get as many as
they could produced and distributed (not a lot of time at all).
This is compounded when you consider that this is a completely new
custom chip...there are ALWAYS manufacturing issues with new chip dyes,
and they process is constantly refined over the first few months to
reduce/eliminate dud chips coming off the line (the dud factor is
always high at the beginning of manufacturing of a new chip).
This is I guess the main reason why you have those overheating, game
freeze, and other problems some users are encountering with the unit.
As a matter of fact, Microsoft already had support articles in their
website prior to launching the unit.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;907588
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;907586
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;906652
Also, ever wondered why the unit came with a microsoft offer for a 2
year extended warranty? Makes me really ponder. But all is well for me
until I get any of those problems so I'm knocking on wood. I would most
likely get the extended warranty too before the 90 day basic warranty
is over.

Yes - that's a good reminder. I thought all along that it was all multi-channel (prior to me having an SACD player).
-
....good luck hunting, stay away from the Asian Imports....[]
Ohhh....too late! I placed a bid on that SACD. Ohhh well. We'll see what I get if I win it. I bought 2 others from Amazon.
acousticsounds.com
musicdirect.com
elusivedisc.com
are all good hi-rez sources.
I have been checking out acousticsounds. A few dollar more expensive than Amazon.
BUY.COM is better priced but it takes 1-2 weeks to deliver the SACDs I want.
-
Thanks - I'll check it out. BTW, I also email a company that sells CDs,
SACD, etc. based in Germany and he did confirm that. Weird eh?
-
Looking to buy some SACDs. Found it hard to find, not too much option
out there or at least artists that I would like to listen to. Anyway,
found this seller from Hong Kong in ebay where he has like 2-3 SACDs
that I like to purchase and fairly resonably priced. Inquired about the an SACD because on the
picture that accompanies the item, it doesn't look like it is sealed.
He replied back and I quote:
"It is not sealed, like most of the CD/SACD manufactured in E.U. , they
are original NOT sealed when they are made."
How true is that?

How would the Monster rep know your unit failed because of a massive surge? Maybe it failed because of a defective component. Did anything else in your place die?
Smart PR, though. Tell the customer it failed and protected his system, whether it did or not.
The unit was plugged into an APC voltage regulator. The APC tripped too so I had to reset it. I summed up that it did get hit rather than failed.
The customer rep asked me if any of my HT unit was noit functioning. I should have told him my DLP TV is busted and they might have replaced it too - hehe.

I have a SONY DVP-NS70H upconverting DVD player and I like the picture
quality a lot (720P, 1080i thru HDMI). Mine had the "SHIFT ISSUE"
(check avs forum for more details) but it was no deal breaker for me
and I do think they resolved this already. If you have SACDs then
go for the DVPNS90V model instead.
