  1. ---------------- On 2/22/2005 7:58:49 AM 3dzapper wrote: I guess a system with Klipschorns, a Belle center and LaScala rears is out of the question huh? Did you show her the RS-35's? With light walls, the white ones will melt into the room. They would be a better match for your Reference fronts. (Even when you sneak in the RF-7s while she's out on a trip to her sisters.) Good luck! Rick ---------------- Yes... We went to the local Klipsch dealer over the weekend and they had some RS-3s sitting out. I held it up to the wall and did the "See honey this is how it would look". She was somewhat indifferent and still thought it looked too big. I have not seen an RSX-5 in person... but the few I have seen pictures of compared to scale (items in view around the speaker) they seem to be considerably smaller. My thinking is that if I am not sacrificing a ton or even maybe if the RVX/RSX improves in areas over the 35s (Imaging, Center Clarity etc.) it may be worth the change. Of course at the same time I am feeling like just saying screw it and moving up to a full R-7 room!!! Seriously though... not wanting to sacrifice on what I have already and hearing some preliminary good comments about the RVXs... I figured it is worth investigating what others think of these... granted they are not Heritage, Ultra or even R-7 comparable, but do folk feel they are worthy of the Klipsch badges they wear? And more importantly are they worthy of the "Reference" category? Or do we feel they should be along side the Synergy's at Best Buy???
  2. I recently upgraded to RF-35s in the front with a RC-35 center and RB-25s in the Rear. I have an SVS 20-39 PC Plus running all the bass. The SVS does in exceptional job in my room and I don't even pass LFE to my fronts. All speakers set to small. I run a Yami HTR-5790 for power. My room size is 20x30 with Vaulted ceilings to about 10', the Theater area is 20' wide by about 15' deep. The RB-25s are on Omnimounts behind the listening position about 6 foot off the floor. So here is problem. WAF!!!! When my wife came home and saw those RB-25s hanging on the walls... she about blew a gasket. She does not seem as put out by the RFs but... man-o-man... she is not happy about those RBs hanging up there. So I asked her.. "When you knew I ran the wire, mounted the boxes... before the drywall even went up, what did you think would be there". Of course her response was "I don't know, some of those small little cute ones like we have seen in Best Buys". She is referring to Bose!!!! YUCK! So in researching WAF compatible options... I showed her some pics of the RSX-5s and asked her what she thought. She felt those were much nicer size wise. My questions: Has anyone compared R-35s to RVX-54s? I was thinking RVX-54s with a RVX-42 in the center and the RSX-5s in the back. If you have compared them... do you think I will be losing much by dumping the 35s for the RVX, RSX? I am not worried much about the low end, as I mentioned the SVS is more the capable of handing it. Are the RSX-5s the appropriate choice for the Surrounds? We primarily use the system for movies with an occasional NON-Critical listening of music (ambiance sound etc.). One last note... non of my local Klipsch retailers have the RVXs... so I don't really have the option to compare the sound. And unlike some... I LOVE the "Brightness" of a Klipsch. Even running a Yamaha... I have no complaints currently (well other then I find the RC-35 a bit boomy and muddy in the midrange). I know this was a long read, I appreciate any input those "in the know" could provide. Thanks in advance, Raymond
  3. Atomic, Yes those are RF-35s and RC-35... a SVS 20-39 PC+ and I run RB-15s in the rear. The audio and tv furniture are Sanus. I got them from http://www.racksandstands.com/ I like the furniture quite a bit... very well made maybe almost as nice as the Bello stuff... not quite as expensive. You can get the same stands I have in Cherry, Black or Maple as I have. Sanus also makes matching DVD shelf untis, speaker stands etc. All from the "Naturals" series. Rayo
  4. Hehehehe... I guess from the angle it kinda looks like a plasma... but no... it is a Sony LCD Grand Wega III with HD tuner.
  5. I posted pictures of mine back on page 14 of this post (the guy with the Icee Machine). I just recently updated to a 55" Sony and thought I would post a picture of the new setup.
  6. BigMike, You might be mistaken when you say "the RF is awesome"... as the MX-700 is not an RF remote. The 800 and new 850s are the RF capable hard button models. However if you mean the MX-700 has strong IR output... I completely agree. I have the 850 (almost identical to the 700) and don't currently use RF... just IR. I find that I don't even have to really point it at my equipment and it works flawlessly. The IR output on these is VERY Good. They have multiple IR emitters in the front pointed so that the remote sends the IR in a very wide dispersion.
  7. I recently purchased the new MX-850 and absolutely love it. Personally I prefer a "Hard Button" remote over a touch screen like the Proto's or the 3000 (or for that matter the Sonys). There is a large user community behind the HTM remotes as with the Pronto's. You can check out the forums over at http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/forums.cgi They have tons of reviews at the main site as well. Good Luck... Rayo.
  8. Hungmeister, Did you ever do an A/B with your dealer? I am curious as to the outcome. I also have an RC35 that exhibits the same muddy, hollow sound that many have complained about. I purchased it from a fellow enthusiast upgrading to 7s. I am not sure what options I have... but would be curious if it is a bad Crossover or bad driver etc. RayoVac
  9. IndyKlipschFan I live just south of South Bend. If you are ever up in this neck of the woods... let me know.
  10. The Popcorn machine is a Paragon. Nice notice... my wife gave it to me for our 10 year Anniversary a number of years ago. We use it a TON! Now the Icee/Slurpee machine is a WHOLE different animal. For those interested... (my intent is not to scare you away)... let me share some specifics. - Hard to find one less the two or three years old for less then $3000. You can find them on e-bay 5 years and older in the $1200 range. Mine is a Lancer 550 and is less then 4 years old now. Cornelius and Taylor also make FCBs (Frozen Carbonated Beverage) Machines. The ones you find in a 7-Eleven are generally a Cornelius or now they are using Lancer's as well. Most of your gas station, no name quicky marts run the Taylors. (not sure why). - I found mine on E-Bay... had been looking for close to 4 years for the "Right" one. Got lucky and picked it up for $699. Another $225 to get it to my door from PA... and then the fun just started to begin. - These are NOT light it weighs OVER 350 pounds, I had to reinforce my counter top and cabinet to safely support it. - I had to run a 30amp 220 volt circuit dedicated for its use. - I have Everpure water filtration to ensure the water is "Quality H2O". - I needed to acquire Syrup Pumps, CO2 regulators, Stainless Otiker clamps, NSF braided hose for the water and CO2, and NSF Clear hose for the Syrup pump feeds. So I finally get all the pieces parts, get it up and running and Ohhh No... WOW... this thing has the refrigeration power equivalent of a 2 ton home AC unit. So when it runs... not only is it as NOISY as your condensing unit outside... but it raised the temp of my home theater area by an easy 10-15 degrees. So after having it all together... and unhappy with the noise and heat. I contacted Lancer Engineering (ps. Lancer Tech support is A+++++) and queried them about pulling the condenser, compressor and accumulator out and remote mounting those items beneath the unit in my garage. And that is precisely what I did. Cut them all out, built a shelf in my garage below. Mounted everything, ran Refrigeration coppper... and had a Refrigeration guy come out and sweat it all back together, vacuum it down and charge it all back up. Works Great NOW!!!! Quiet, Cool... Yummmy! And in the winter it helps heat my garage. The most difficult item... is finding syrup. FCB syrup is different then soda fountain syrup. I have finally found some good sources that will sell to me. But it has taken months of searching and making "connections". Check out more pictures of the FCB install and modifications by clicking here.
  11. Here is my system. RF-35s and a RC-35 in the front. RB-25s in the back and an SVS PC Plus 20-39 handling the bass. I have a Yamaha 5790 and a Sony 875 Changer... TiVo and Xbox along with a black painted 1100 watt Compaq UPS. All sitting on Sanus Naturals Audio Rack and TV Stand. Oh yeah... and if you have a Slurpee machine in your home... you have to find a way to sneak it into the pictures.
  12. A screw drive linear actuator is the way to go. Look at some of the C-Band satellite sites. There are lots of them out there. I have a 52" stroke actuator that I use to open the floor in my entertainment area exposing a stairwell to my garage. The actuator is capable of lifting 1000 pounds. Most of these made for satellites run on 36 volts DC. There are a number of places to get power supplies. I use a double pole / double throw switch to open and close and reverse the power leads for me. It is a three position switch. Up-Off-Down. The actuators even have very precise "limit" stops on them so you can easily adjust the start/stop points. My 52" stroke actuator (the biggest I could find without going Hydraulic) was only $225. Shorter throws like 18" and 30" are LOTS cheaper. I found a 48VDC/4 AMP Power supply that I step down to 36 volts. A few sites to check out: Actuators http://skyvision.com/store/dishmovers.html One source I found for Power supplies http://www.mpja.com/listcat.asp?dept=1 Also note, if you are a DIY kind of guy you could go to your local C-Band satellite shop and get a junk C-Band receiver and take the Power supply out of it. These already have the 36 volt supply as they would normally be what powers the "Dish Mover" or actuator.
  13. I saw these again at Best Buy today. In boxes... none on display. Anyone find any information yet. I am surprised that Klipsch has not updated their website to provide info on the updates to this series.
