  1. I have zero options for changing the center channel speaker location... it will go inside a 3/4" plywood TV cart, below my Toshiba HDTV. I hope to use a recently acquired Quartet for center channel with Chorus II mains. The Quartet fits nicely in the TV cart but, it's causing some picture distortion so I will attempt to shield it. Are bucking magnets the best/only option? Any recommendations on size of magnet for the 10" woofer in a Quartet? Is there any harm/risk with using a larger bucking magnet? (Might a larger magnet provide any more/better shielding?) Should the midrange and tweeter compression drivers also be shielded? If so, any size recommendations, etc.? Also wondering if there are any options for lining the upper/side walls inside the TV cart compartment where the speaker will sit? Thanks in advance for any help.
  2. FYI... I had seen a pair of Forte IIs here in Houston when browsing stores with my wife... went back the next weekend to buy them and was told they had been shipped to Mass... might be the same ones! Now I'm looking for a pair, and kicking myself for not jumping on these.
  3. Looking to find a pair of 8 ohm Heresy IIs... preferably Walnut or Medium Oak. Please contact me if you have a pair you're willing to sell (send pictures), or if you know of any one else I might contact. Thanks P.S. Will also post in 2 Channel forum.

  5. As of this evening, that's what I'm doing... have a line on a pair of Quartets... if I close this, I'll probably sell one of them. Heresy's look like they get listed on e-bay pretty regular. Plan to post a WTB request on the forum and see what turns up. I don't want to get ahead of myself but, figure I need to do some reading/research on receivers. Wondering if any thing might be better than satisfactory for both CD/SACD listening and DVD/HT viewing? I notice a number of forum members with Heritage speakers seem to use both a HT receiver and a 2 channel tube amp... it's not hard to guess why but it would sure be useful to hear the difference myself. E-bay seems to have driven most brick and mortar stores out of the used audio equipment business. Houston is a pretty big city but it's hard to find a place I can audition this kind of stuff. Someone's been buying vintage equipment through the newspaper classifieds and tells me he plans to open a used audio shop in the next month or so. Guess I'll have to spend a little $$ with him to see if he can stay in business!
  6. My amplifier main channels put out 100 watts/channel (80 watts, minimum RMS). It supplies 30 watts (15+15) to the center and 15 watts/channel to the rears. (This is a Sony GX59ES receiver... that I really don't want to replace while I'm acquiring the speakers... the $$s don't grow on trees!) I'm planning to run Chorus IIs on the main channels (80/100 watts each), a single Quartet on the center (30 watts) and a pair of Heresys in the rear (15 watts each). I expect to adjust the center and rear channels to balance levels and I'll be surprised if the primary gain ever gets much over 50%. Bottom line... I'd like to be sure 15 watts/channel should be sufficient to drive a pair of Heresy's on the rear channels, before I start bidding or negotiating on a pair. If this works OK for a 5.1 HT setup, then I can shop carefully for a 2 channel tube amp/pre-amp later. The Newbie handle is appropriate for me... so I'm trying to get advice before I jump into any thing that may not work out. Thanks for the info provided so far... any other insights are also appreciated.
  7. One added question... I'm still having difficulty verifying minimum power requirements for the Heresy. There is a current auction on ebay that claims the Heresy has a 20 watt minimum power requirement. Any idea if this is accurate? Seems kind of high given the Klipsch reputation for efficiency.
  8. Thanks for advice... increases my confidence in this approach. I notice in your profile that you are also using Heresy for side and rear... "driven by MC2105's". What is an MC2105?
  9. Looking for a single Quartet to use as center channel with Chorus IIs. Will buy a pair and split, if single not available. Black preferred but not required. Appreciate any leads or offers to sell. Thanks P.S. Also posted in 2 channel forum.

  11. Chorus II mains. Looking for a Quartet (black), to use as center. Rears must fit on a shelf and be either sealed or front ported enclosures. Heresy's are the largest I can possibly use. Also considering KG 1s or newer reference bookshelf speakers. Still looking for alternatives/ideas. Got any?
  12. Is a single Heresy worth considering as an alternative?
  13. Thanks. I had read this already but, I don't have room for the Quartet. Even the Heresy is a bit large for space available in rear... but I could probably do it any way. I was leaning this way until I saw the comment about a 20 watt minimum power requirement for Heresey's. This seems odd to me and I'm having difficulty verifying/refuting it. Here is a link to the auction where I came across the 20 watt minimum "requirement": http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5725953714&rd=1
  14. Please help with advice/insights for rounding out a 5.1 setup with Chorus II mains. The system will be used mostly for listening to CDs, SACDs and concert/music DVDs... some DVD movies as well, but a fully loaded HT system is not the priority. I'm using a Sony STR-GX59ES receiver... 115 watts/channel main, 30 watts (15 + 15) center, and 15 watts/channel rear. I don't have room for another Chorus as my center and an Academy is hard to find and too expensive. Either a single Heresy or a KLF-C7 can fit my space, but I don't know how to decide between them? (I can't find any place to audition/compare these two speakers.) What do some of you think are the significant distinguishing features? The rear speakers will sit on an unused wet bar... nearly perfect location for placement but the back wall is over 3 feet further behind, so no reflection of any rear ports. I'm considering a pair of either KG 1 Plus (sealed), Heresy's (also sealed but a bit large for this location), or the newer RB-35s (front ported). The KG 1s were only made for a short time and seem difficult to find (at least so far)... I'm dubious of the matching between front speakers and the RB-35s (although I have auditioned the RB-35s and they sound great)... and I've just read a comment by an ebay seller that Heresy's require a minimum of 20 watts (i.e. more than my rear amplifier provides). Some experienced input would be useful and much appreciated. Thanks
  15. Looking for a pair of excellent or better condition KG 1s (sealed enclosure)... black. Wanted for rear channel duty with Chorus II mains. Presently watching ebay. Appreciate any other leads. Thanks
  16. No use for the KG-1's? Let me know if you'd ever part with them... perfect for my rear channel needs!
  17. Thanks to my brother I have a mint condition pair of Chorus IIs on the way. I understand a center channel Academy is hard to come by so I may have to get a KLF-C7 for awhile. Unfortunately the rear speakers are more problematic... no room for any of the best choice floor standing options... need small bookshelf speakers to sit on an unused wet bar (that is about 3 feet from the wall behind it). From browsing this forum, it sounds like one of the small KG series may be my best option. It seems like the 1.2 and 1.5 may be easier to find but, they have ported enclosures. Will the ported enclosure and distance to back wall be a significant issue (considering they'll be for rear channel use only)? Should I focus my search on finding a pair of sealed enclosure KG-1s? Are there other options worth considering? I will appreciate any advice offered... and tips on any available Academy. Thanks
  18. Mandi... Did you manage to acquire an Academy? I'm getting a pair of Chorus II's from my brother and think I'm interested in a good used KLF-C7 (until I can afford and find an Academy). Any one else... Know where I can get a good deal on used KLF-C7 to satisfy me for awhile?
