  1. Conrwalls are the one older Klipsch speaker that I have never heard. Currently I have Chorus/Forte II/Acadaemy/Heresy/Heresy II so I dont really see a need for thembut you never know. Anyway, based on this guys auction requirements I think he might be limiting his buyers. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5749395433&rd=1 I dont really need themnot even sure if I want them, but if I have the chance to snag them at a good price what is that price? The reason I ask is that my parents live about 15 minutes from that city and they will be traveling to my neck of the woods (Baltimore, MD) soon, so I could have door to door delivery with caring hands for free!
  2. Thanks Russ You say "if you have a choice - use the balanced connectors (XLR)" Are you saying that in a general sense: Given the choice between XLR to XLR and RCA to RCA choose the balanced connectors or are you saying that in my particular set up use the balanced output from my Pre/Pro to my amps even though I would need custom cables built to go XLR on the Pre/Pro side to RCA on the Amps? As far as I am concerned it would be a no brainier to go XLR to XLR if I in fact had that option, because what the heck I already have a fair amount of money in the darn system, what is a few more cables. But since I don't have the luxury of XRL on the amps, I am wondering if I lose the benefit of "Balanced Outputs" with the RCA termination end of the cable. In which case I am just wasting my money on a stronger connection. Not trying to split hairs here just wanting to get a full understanding.
  3. I have a new pre/pro on the way but still have my three older 2 channel amps. I was wondering if there is any sonic benefit in getting interconnects with XLR connections on one end and RCAs on the other. Most of what I have been able to dig up says that the benefits of XLR cables are noise reduction, ruggedness, and a connection that wont get yanked out. If I dont have any noise issues (at least I dont think I do) is there any reason to go with new cables? Also what it meant by the term Balanced as it relates to processors with balanced outputs? Thanks, Rich
  4. One black one oak. If it were my money and I needed black I would buy Frzninvt's, but if you need oak here ya go. I am sure you can all figure out how to search for it. No interests in or knowledge about seller...just pointing it out. Any side bets on what they go for?
  5. This begs the question to jhawk what is that other lone Chorus doing and what does it take to get it to my fortress of fun? As a side note I like the original chorus up front as there is no concern with the passive woofer on the back. I feel it gives me a little more leeway for movement. With a sub base is not really an issue. Any thoughts there?
  6. O, Hmmm, lets see compelling.nothing I can think of. Maybe you should send me your good Chorus then rebuild your beat up one and find a set of Chorus to go with it. Then you and I can have the same setup of Chours/ChoursII/Chours up front and we can taunt the rest of the crowd. On the serious side, I like the idea of Fortes pulling duty as both centers with the rear flanked by Academys. Academys would up high wall mounted rather then Heresys on speaker stands giving me some floor space back. Are you currently running your fortes as rears or is that a future plan? If you are currently using them do you have any issues with rear channels being blocked by seats or other furniture? Heresys just seem, in my mind, to be a better candidate elevated on a stand then Fortes. Maybe I am making up problems that dont exist and floor Fortes will be fine. Additionally I have watched several movies on my old equipment in my shell of a room with Chorus/Forte/Chorus and Chorus/Academy/Chorus. I like the Chorus/Forte/Chorus set up better, but to be fair I believe I had the Academy a little high on my makeshift stand while the Forte was obviously at a pretty good listening height just as it sits. Keep those ideas coming.
  7. Ok, I pretty much know the answer to this question is; Try it and see what you like best. I will do that as soon as the room is painted and my equipment (processor/DVD) travels from coast to coast. In the mean time I am looking for opinions and if you have them reasons. Given a room of roughly 16X13 and the following speakers that I already have, so no need to search for and buy, what do you think will sound best. I am already wired for 6.1 Speakers: 1 pair Chorus, 1 pair Forte II, 2 Academys (yes two), 1 pair Heresy, 1 pair Heresy II. Original though was Chorus/Academy/Chorus up front and Forte/Academy/Forte in the rear Now I am thinking I might like to have the Heresy(s) on stands elevated for the rears, so what about Chorus/Forte/Chorus in the front and three Heresys in the rear. This gives me a stray heresy and a stray forte left overbut if the sound is better who cares Any other worthwhile set up I have not thought of given my speakers? Who wants to trade a Chorus or two for an Academy or two and appropriate cash in either direction to give me 3 Choruses up front?
  8. I cant get the search feature to work today so I cant locate an old thread about theater seats. I seem to recall a posting by Soundbroker about some seats that were well liked, had a low back height and were a bit narrower then most to allow for more seats or less room taken up. If I remember at all correctly can you give me some details? I am looking for a group of 4 with no center arm reset between the middle two. Arm rests on either side for the rest. I found some info on the Berkline 086 model, looks along the lines of what I am interested in. Anyone have feedback on those? Anyone else have seat recommendations that fit this bill. Thanks a ton! Rich
  9. I have the panasonic 700 and love it. I got screen samples to test with the projector before I bought my screen and I thought I was going to go the gray route, but I actually went with a Carada brilliant white. Stewart makes great screens but you will be looking at it for a long time. Just my $0.02, but I would get the projector and set it up. Make a temporary screen for 50 bucks or less or simply project it on the wall. Play with different sizes and aspect ratios. In the mean time get with a few of the screen companies and get samples. Throw your projector at the samples and pick what you like best. I was originally going to go the HD aspect ratio for my Panasonic 700 but ended up with a 2:35 to 1 screen and I am so glad I did.
  10. O, I vote for HereTe. Pronounced Hair-i-Tay but Foresy sure made me giggle.
  11. I am not sure if this will help or confuse. FWIW here goes. I currently have a pair each of Chorus, Forte II, and Heresy. I have a lot of ear time with an Academy between KG4s and Forte II and a little bit of time between the Choruses. I have not had the chance to hear a KLF-C7 so take my ramblings with a grain of salt. As for the Academy IMHO it is worth every penny and more that they are getting on ebay. I only wish I had bought 100s back in 1993 rather then all that darn Microsoft stock (only kiddingI should buy stock instead of blowing all my cash on AV stuff) In listening to the Heresy I totally agree with Olorin about the Politeness vs. the Aggressiveness WRT Forte/Heresy. For that reason I cant envision the Academy sounding all that great with Heresy mains. What is your time frame I might just set this up for a movie or two just to see for myself. On a side note I did Chorus/Forte II/Chorus for a few movies and absolutely loved it. I think given the cost and hard-to-get-ness of the Academy if you were starting from scratch the best bang for the buck and ease (if you have the ability, room and desire) would be 5 Fortes. I liked the Forte so much as a center between my Chorus that I think ultimately I will end up with Chorus/Forte/Chorus up front and 3 Fortes across the back of my 6.1. So if any of you want to do the leg work for an Academy find a way to get a cherry set of Fortes to my door and I will give you one of my Academys. Sorry for that detour. To get back on topic if you dont already have an Academy, it might not be worth the cost hassle to put one between Heresys. If you have the space below the TV or you are projecting; another Heresy or even Heresys all around might sound best. Hope this helps, Rich
  12. Not so much Klipsch related, but for sure HT. I pulled the trigger today on the purchase of some equipment. Nobody I work with would even begin to understand my obsession but I just had to tell someone. My room is not finished but coming together nicely. I am priming/painting it this weekend. So figured I better get the equipment quickly because I am sure once the room is done I wont be able to wait a day longer. Only bad thing is that I have to wait for shipping on the items. Authorized dealer purchase, just not in my area - due to me not appreciating the condescending attitude of my local shop. My loyal servant the Carver CT-17 is being replaced with a Sunfire Theater Grand IV and my Sony DVD player (dont even know the model) is retired in favor of a Denon 3910. Yes I was still hanging on to the CT-17 pro logic, but I do have a more casual TV room with 5.1. That CT-17 will have to probably get sold, but I would like to keep it for a 2 channel set up some day as I really love the sound. I had to scrap the 7.1 setup due to space issues in favor of 6.1. It is really funny how small a 16.5 X 13.75 space gets as walls go up and the ceiling comes down. For now it will Be Chorus/Academy/Chorus up front and Forte/Academy/Forte in the rear with a KSW-200 for the low end. I did however wire for 7.1 on the side/back walls. The Fortes are slightly off the back wall and to the side maybe 140 degrees behind the listener with the rear Academy dead center on the rear wall. The original plan was Chorus/Forte/Chorus with 4 Heresys surrounds. I still think this is going to be a nice set up for the given sized room. What do you all think? Anybody have thoughts on that sub with the rest of the gear? I dont think the budget will allow for any more major purchases soon. But always looking for the next big thing. Thanks for letting me ramble cant wait to get my new toys.
  13. I am wrapping up construction on my HT and it is time to buy a few items of equipment I still need. I am looking to buy a Sunfire Theater Grand IV. I would rather give the money to a forum member if there is a dealer out there as my local dealer (Gramophone) shall we say - less then impresses me. So how about it, any of you guys a Sunfire dealer? Rich
  14. If you are interested in my rack adventure check out this also, use the search in upper right, lots of rack info. http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=57146&forumID=69&catID=19&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={A6542D33-627B-451D-B2FB-BCD17E0712D2} and http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=57708&forumID=69&catID=19&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={A6542D33-627B-451D-B2FB-BCD17E0712D2}
  15. Standard 19 inch commercial racks used for audio equipment and computer equipment. I just went through this drill and like the Middle Atlantic stuff. If you have rack mountable equipment great, if not you can buy shelvs that are a breeze to install at various heights (rack spaces). IMHO nothing looks nicer either. I like the understated clean look of an all black rack with equipment closly stacked. If you want I can take a pic of my current install as the rack is in place and the drywall and mud are up but no equipment in while the basement is under construction.
  16. Man, thank you sooooo much! That was really bugging me. I turned the power off at the box and no luck. There was no other power on the back so I turned off the power at my surge protector which in turn killed TIVO and all my components. When it came back on all was well. Thanks again!
  17. Might not quite be the right forum for this post but I figure I cant be the only one with DirecTV sat. service. Starting last night and continuing today I have a very high pitched, shrill, echo-y sound in my speakers. I originally thought it was just my right main, but in messing with all the levels I have found it is in all three fronts. I have tried all the different surround and DSP settings on my processor and numerous channels on my sat. box. The final straw that makes me think it is now the satellite service and nothing on my end is the fact that I have TIVO and previously recorded programs do NOT have the annoying sound. Anyone out there having the same problem? Anyone had it in the past or have a suggestion? Thanks, Rich
  18. I think the seller is saying that he bought them for that...not that the is selling them for 895. i.e Best Offer.
  19. Shawn, My projector's native output is the HD AR, but it has settings to change the output to 4:3, force 16:9, zoom, justify, etc. However using these settings causes the picture to look stretched or squished from time to time other times it looks fine. I have not quite figured out what the various combination of what signal altered in what manner are acceptable for me and what are notstill learning. For the time being lets put the anamorphic lens aside and concentrate on the projector/scalar. Is it possible that a properly equipped projector (not sure if mine is or not) and/or a scaler can change the AR of a given signal (4:3, 16:9, etc.) to always output the same signal, say 2.35 to 1? If it is possible would you really want to? I admit I don't know much about this end of things...but I would think the perfect set up, if it is even possible would be: I am switching through my various sources say - HD sat., 2.35 DVD, normal sat(4:3),1.78 DVD, etc. Some sort of magic box interprets the signal, knows what it is and outputs the correct info to my projector that completely fills my screen top to bottom. It does this with out me messing with the projector at all. I would expect, and want, this magic box to preserver the AR. That is, if it was a 4:3 normal sat. signal I would want it to fill the screen top to bottom but still have 4:3 AR. When I switch to a HD channel I would want the top to bottom full screen but it to make the picture slightly wider, i.e. HD AR. Finally when I switch to a DVD, regardless of format 1.85, 2.05, 2.35 - I would want the screen full top to bottom and it widened appropriately. I dont think it would be natural to watch a standard TV signal, say the evening news at a 2.35 AR. I have not done it so maybe I would like itI just dont think I would. I guess what I am asking is does a scaler stretch/squish the signal to give you what ever AR you are telling it you want or is it smart enough to give you the AR you desire and not distort the picture. My 2nd question would be given the right equipment can you produce a fixed height system that in turn preserves the original AR but requires no messing around with the projector. Dont get me wrong, for the time being I am going to go down the fixed height path and feel fine adjusting the projector. I am just wondering if I could eventually automate the process. Thanks so much for all the info, Rich
  20. Shawn, thanks for that last post. I am interested in knowing more about what a scaler actually does. Any places you can point me to?
  21. He told me when he figured out what he had left he would sell me enought to do my Chorus and Forte. Seems like a decent guy if you know what you need and he has it for you.
  22. Thanks Shawn, looks like you and I are on the same page here. I was blown away when I threw in the first 2:35 image on my new home made screen, prior to this my other home made screen was an attempt to recreate the HD AR. It really was that feeling of an epic movie with the new set up. I Robot was probably not that great of a move IMHO, but I could not stop smiling and saying WOW! Seemed to me for the first time all of my smashed thumbs, cuts, and bruises were worth it. To tell you the truth I was starting to question the room size/shape when I was originally watching 1:85 and 2:35 movies on my aprox. 45X80 HD screen. There just was not that movie feeling. For me at least, I don't have any problems with extra screen side to side, but watching a "Movie" with the black bars top/bottom on the HD AR screen was just like a bigger TV...better, but still not a Home THEATER. Once you set up the projector to fill the screen top to bottom and the width seems to expand to the entire capabilities of your vision there is no comparison.
  23. professczar, thanks so much for the post back. I am intrigued since we have such similar set ups. Why do you recommend the true HD aspect ratio over a wider screen. With a wider screen my thinking is that an HD signal will still fill the screen top to bottom and just have extra "screen" on the sides, much the same way a letterboxed DVD viewed on a TV has black bars on the top/bottom. If I project a 2:35 to 1 movie image that is letterboxed on DVD onto a HD AR screen, then I would have to end up with a smaller image top to bottom then conventional HD signal, right? Am I missing something crucial in my thinking here?
  24. I'm an idiot...did not change link for last group of pix...here are the right links Three shots of 2:35 to 1 image max I could get on my screen 2:35 1 2:35 2 2:35 3
  25. Not sure if anyone would be interested, but I got tired of my copy paper and went all out buying a piece of tile backer board at Home Depot and having it cut roughly to 2:35 to 1 ratio. Then I painted and cut some casing trim and tacked it on. Took about 1 hour and less then 30 bucks. I now have a 2:35 to 1 test screen. Below are links to some digital pix of my findings. Picture quality looks great. I think I am sold on the 2:35 aspect ratio screen after playing with it for a few days now. Sure you have to move/zoom lens, but it takes less then a minute to set up. Personally I think this is a much better way to go then getting a HD aspect ratio screen and watching a 2:35 movie (or 1:85 for that matter) shrunk down. Still looking for any thought other might have before I pull the trigger on screen purchase. Warning to dial up users high-rez pix Three shots of 1:33 to 1 image zoomed to fill height of 2:35 to one screen 1:33 1 1:33 2 1:33 3 Four shots of 1:85 to 1 image...sorry but looks like I got lazy on this one and did not fully zoom and align lense...but I think you can easily get the idea. 1:85 1 1:85 2 1:85 3 1:85 4 Three shots of 2:35 to 1 image max I could get on my screen 2:35 1 2:35 2 2:35 3 Bonus points for the first person to name all the episodes/movies above. Here is a hint...after that wicked long anit-LOTRs thread none of the films are LOTRs Seriously, this should be an easy taskwell maybe not the actual episode of the first group. Enjoy
