  1. Hey Michael, I tried to get you on your cell last night. I will try again. I don't need a mirror finish. I'm not trying to set any records here either. I just want a black finish with some shine/gloss that doesn't show paint marks. Also, Not sure what you ment by local Porter store. jc
  2. I just ordered from parts express. It was the 3/4 inch Sonic Barrier. 8 sheets shipped was $133. I'll let you know how it sounds. jc
  3. Thanks m.hurd This is the kind of instructions I was looking for. I followed all of that pretty well through the sanding and primer bit. I got a little confused after that. I think I got that I would need to apply the enamel a few times and sand. At the end sand to a fine grit. I don't mean to sound silly but these "reducers, compounds, hardeners" and such aren't part of my vocab. I am not afraid of my arms falling off. In fact this makes the project more fun for me. jc
  4. Yes I dunked the driver and the horn. I measured it in milliliters then converted. You can rest assured that these volumes are Accurate. For those wanting down to the last freakin volume measurement, this is the way to go. There is no reason for someone else to risk there drivers like I did. jc
  5. Volume K-77 = 18.31 cubic inches Volume K-57 and K601 = 112.89 cubic inches
  6. I have already dunked the K57/601 and the K-77. I have the exact volume if you need it. jc
  7. Al, One clarification on the measurements. Please look at the image below and look at the extention of the height 8 3/16. I added to your red line. Was this your intention that the total height of the cutout would be 8 3/16? jc
  8. Michael, Yes, I made note of that on the previous thread. So, I would use a foam roller or a bristle paint brush? What primer before the paint? Any sanding in between? You know, the only other thread I could find that dealt with non spray painting was this one: http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=53864&forumID=71&catID=19&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={928B014A-3A76-480B-9E79-2F1793C46D3A} In fact, you mentioned that same paint on that thread. I almost bumped that thread. Jlindgren (who started the thread) had an interesting idea of thinning the paint, brushing it on, then wiping it off. I was considering trying this. However, if you could give me tips on the way you do it, I will do it your way. It will be late next week before I will start this. Have a few odds and ends to complete before painting. jc
  9. Thanks for the tips guys. Sorry, I should have not put the Lacquer in parenthesis. I should not put it there at all. Yes, I want to put it on with a roller. That guitar site is interesting. I basically want black paint mwith a gloss. I may just do what I did last time. I swear, I feel just like the last time I did this. Can't decide on the finishing touches.
  10. Great job. When you say $1100 into them, is this the cost of the built only or did you calculate in drivers a networks. jc
  11. Home Depot had nothing like that. At least that is what they tell me. They had some steel that would be hard to bend. I assume that the Aluminum had predrilled holes. I didn't think of the piece of wood idea. Good thinking. jc
  12. I have started a lot of threads recently....so for those steaming right now...I'll apologize in advance. I just refinished some Corns with Black Acrylic latex with a foam roller and a foam brush. Cheap project and they look pretty good. However, I was slam dunked in the thread where I mentioned this. I deserved it. So here is my deal. I am still gonna use a foam roller and a foam brush. Sorry, not gonna change. I will do some sanding if needed. SO THE QUESTION: WHAT BLACK PAINT (LAQUER) AND PRIMER WOULD YOU USE? I WANT A "GLOSS FINISH"; NOT PIANO BLACK. Thanks jc
  13. Where can I find an L-bracket for a K 401 horn? I know this may seem like an easy thing to find a Home Depot but I couldn't. Every bracket had precut holes that wouldn't be the right "length". Does Klipsch have these? Any other idea of how to support the horn? jc
  14. Ok Damon, The picture is of a cabinet with motor board on and motor board off. Here you can visualize the shelf. If this doesn't clear it up...well...you'll just have to come on over an see em'. jc
  15. That cheap mess listed above. Do you all think that it is similar to Cornwall "tissue" stuff? It is cheap as ever. $27 would be enough for 4 speakers. Can't imagine this would improve sound. Heck, I could buy it just for the sake of comparison. jc
  16. Heys guys, what do you mean by Black hole? Yes my cabinet is a Cornwall type cabinet. I don't want to put anything in the cabinet that would be hard to remove. Since there isn't or doesn't seem to be a solid science here, I will try w/o and upgrade sequentially later I have a pair of 84 CW that had never been opened until I got a hold of them recently. That tiolet paper looking stuff was in mint condition.
  17. Well, that was a little over my head. I think I will try "nothing" at first. I was gettin ready to drop about $150 at Parts Express. My box is a sturdy tank. If the bass ends up being too "boomy", I may add something. jc
  18. Al, That is beautiful. Too bad I'm not a Khorn or a Bell owner. I can see now how this is a "drop in" set up. jc
  19. I have built some bass bins and in the process of ordering some cabinet internal lining. I have looked at the four options on Parts Express. Anybody have experience with these or other lining options. This is a ported cabinet. Not horn loaded. jc
  20. Thanks Al, Actually, that measurement is critical for my installation. jc
  21. Al, What is the width of the red line in the attached photo? jc
  22. Yes I will use the Elmer's wood glue in some places. I already have some. I think this works great. I would love to hear someone comment on whether this is as strong as the liquid nails. However, there is some gaps that I think are just a bit too big and I may have to try the liquid nails or the caulk/silicone.
  23. These are some great suggestions. I will only be putting filler in the inside of the cabinet to fill the gaps. I will use elmers wood filler for the outside. Bondo I'm sure is better but I have had good success with he filler.. I think the veener project would be fun but my wife is all about the black speakers.
  24. Al, That looks wonderful. I'm glad you are choosing black. Is this first production going to be like the rest? Hate to keep buggin you about this but what are the mouth dimensions? If it is still not final....ok....i'll wait longer. So by looking at the picture, I see that adapters for the drivers will bolt on. Do you have a picture of the K-55 adapter? Will the adapter bolt on the throat and then the driver "screw" onto the adapter? jc
  25. Is any of this stuff sandable? Lets say I need to screw on a motorboard but the mounting peices of wood are slightly seperated. 1: I want a seal 2: I need a flat surface So if I put liquid nails or such, will I be able to sand the surface to make it flat? What about Good ole Elmers wood glue? Would this be as effective? I know I could sand this. Maybe liquid nails is stronger. jc
