Finally, people are chimming in on the pro line. I too wonder if the 325 would make a good center channel. Does it come with grills to make it cosmetically good for the home? Would I have to get some custom crossovers? Deans, you make that?
I would agree with most here that the Heritage line seems to bring on the most conversation. I have la scalas with ALK networks. As a full range speaker they are lacking in bass. This can be solved with a high quality sub.
Before the ALK's or newer design crossovers, I would say these speakers are not worth having; from one arguement only. They go for about 800$ on EBAY. Without an upgrade of some kind, i'm sure there are others that would argue that other 800$ speakers are "better".
I would too agree that the Forte would have to be added to your lineup. I think I may choose these over Heresy's for my future surrounds.

Mick, I just gotta ask. What do you think of your new Polk XM Satellite Radio tuner. I have considered getting one of these. Do you have it running through a DAC?
I know this is off topic. But you are the first person I am aware of that has one.

I was browsing through the Klipsch website and noticed they had another entry under the "cornwall search". Besides mentioning the Cornwall and the Cornwall II, they have a new entry that has recaps of a review of the Cornwall from years ago.
For all you Heritage nuts, go to Klipsch homepage, hit "search" and type in "cornwall". Look at the third entry.

I've been following your frankenstuff. I think you've got great skilz. Shame those things are in a barn.
Question, why did you pick a scala for this. Is this a party barn? By your decorations, this looks like sum sort of a country hodown. Man' I've been to a lot of these. Typically, speakers in that kind of environment had sum bass laden speakers that would make the cows moon walk.
I'm ready to see your next project. You could become a well heard member of this forum. How much did you spend total?
I've got the la scalas with a pair of ALK crossovers. The crossover made the difference. I was about to sell the scalas until I heard the new crossover. HUGE difference.
I've got a pair of AL networks on EBAY starting at $20. If your looking for cheap improvements, you might want to consider this.

Why don't you just go with 5 la scalas. You are building scalas now...right. Just build 5 of em'. This woould be the ultimate in impedance matching.

Do you find the tube outputs sound better than the SS outputs?

Yes i guess a regular grill cover would work and just glue on the mesh to the back rim of the grill. Looks like the link product has a screw-in portion then a portion that snaps on. I wonder if the mesh would keep it from snapping on.

Does anyone know where ot buy a woofer cover like the one used on the B&W Nautilus 801?
I like the look of this. If say I were to have a cabinet like Bob Crites test Cabinet, I would want a lot of wood to show for beauty. I wouldn't want a mesh cover to cover the entire front of the speaker like say the cornwall.

I don't want a belle type design because they are so wide. My wife already complains of the width of the La Scalas. I am interested in the split design for a center. Wheter it be a scala, CornScala or a Cornwall. I haven't decided. Right now I'm hearing all these ideas on scala modification.
I know very little of woodworking. Once I choose an idea, I will want someone as yourself to build it. Knowing me,I would cut my dern hand off. The bad part would be shipping me the cabinet. This would cost a lot. If they soung good enough, I might use that design for my front and put my Scalas in the back.
So to sum it up, I'm most interesed in a cornwall bass bin and the use of the mid and highs used in the scalas.
I've read many of your posts. You've givben me good insight. I will soon make up my mind

So what I hear you saying is that you prefer the sound of your cabinets verses the other speakers you mentioned?
If that is the case, your idea/construction will go a long way on this forum.
I have La scalas with a recent upgrade to ALK networks. They sound fabulous. In my venture to go from 2 channel audio to multichannel audio, I will want a lower end. Your design is just what I am looking for.
If I remember correctly, you stated that your bass cabinet volume is slightly larger than the cornwall. Have you found that you are having to add any lining on the inside to improve your bass response. Is the setup you have now performing with a lowend as good or better than you cornwalls?
Sorry to bug you so much. Your idea is making me want to spend some money

This is very helpful. That lining wouldn't take up too much volume. Again, to me the wood doesn't look to be beveled when put together. I have noticed the Heritage line doesn't do this.
This would probably change your schematic/drawing.
Also, on your front view, the markings to show the width of the top piece of wood don't go all the way to the right side. I am assuming your measurement howeveer is correct.

I'm gettin it now. Looking at that picture, it appears that the wood isn't beveled like suggested in the schematic.
Is the Corn wood ends beveled or not?
Does the corn have any lining inside? If so, how thick and what is the size?
Sorry for so many questions. I will probably keep it up if there continue to be answers.

I have a couple of question regarding this drawing.
Describe the "Blocking 3/4 by 3/4" on you side view
On the bottom, is there a bottom piece of wood, then another piece of wood on top of that, then the port space, then the port shelf. In other words, is there two pieces of wood for the bottom? If so, Why?
So what Would be the internal volume of the cornwall not subtracing the port shelf, drivers, or any insulation/lining?
Nice drawing, I hope others chime in so that this could be completely understood.

I've seen you post this picture before. Now will this allow the bass to be "lower", "tighter","harder"?
How is this installed? Is this two pieces of wood cut just right to be wedged into the dawg house. If so, do you know the dimensions? Would I have to use screws or will it glue in place?

I was waiting to hear a comment about the DUST. Hey, that dust carries several memories. It is from several past houses over 20 years. There is no dust on the "exterior" to be seen others.
I have noticed a little ringing in some of the songs. The bass to me so far isn't much diiferent. I was up all night last night at work and I didn't get to audition them again. Let me tell you,, it was killin' me. I plan to change the swauker settings soon. However, my wife keeps making these plans that keep me out of my room. I think Saturday will be me, Glenfiddich, and my ALK La Scalas.

Yes I need a scala center. I hope to have a split one some day. It would work perfect in this setup.
Yes the finish is piano black....however, don't let the top fool you. There is a piece of glass cut to the size of the scala. That is why so "shiny". I did this because this speaker just begs for someone to set their drink on it. Major party foul.

Yes the builder is a molding and baseboard nut. He is in the process of building me a white shelving unit with the same molding for my CD's and DVD-A's. It will be on one of the walls.

Well, the images are high resolution and big. I didn't shrink them because I wanted some detail.
My room setup does have one major flaw in my opinion. Due to the back room door, the side door and the shelving unit, I can't upgrade to Khorns. They won't "seal" to the corners and they would obstruct my side door. I will eventually have a split scala or a split corn scala for the center. My wife objests to the size of the Khorm. She almost talked me into a pair of B&W 801's. Instead, I upgraded my crossovers....much cheaper.

I came up with all the dimensions and hired a contractor to do it. As you can see, there is a door to the right of the picture. This enters into a small, narrow room behind the setup. As you can imagine, there is a ton of wiring plus my carver amp and two line conditioners. This setup keeps it looking nice. There are no speaker cables on the floor; all running through the ceiling into gold plated speaker jacks.
The built in cabinet is made of 2x4's and 3/4 inch shelving. That way, those >100lb amplifiers aren't a problem.
They La Scalas are Piano Black. They came this way. I bought these from a guy in Atlanta some time ago. He had a other pairs la Scalas in different non-custom stains. My wife only wants black speakers. She is picky about the "look"

Does anyone know if you can still get grills for the Cornwall from klipsch? Also, would the grill be the same size for the CW I vs CW II?
