Joe , it was not a negative comment , but humor-You said it was ugly in a joke fashion , same thing , for me    ---have a Great Day  :emotion-50:   Bro-

The overall meaning of my comment was not directed at you but the new member RickD's comment. My calling the amp Ugly was enough about the appearance. I also made it clear that the sound was superb . I selling the amp on that merit,  I will also add that if sound were the only merit to sell an amp, I would have asked 1000.00 for the amp it is that good.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Your right beauty is in the Eye of the beholder, But this was an add selling an amp, It in no ways asks, nor needs anyone's negative comments about their OPINION of what the amp looks like. If you don't like it, Move along and keep your ill informed comments too yourself. Its called curtesy, Seems some folks have no concept of the word or use there of.

    DG is Dave Gillespie.

Dave is no slouch when it comes to tube audio.

He seen/read all the hype on AK about these little Magnavox 8600 series console amplifiers.

Curious, he picked up one to see what the big deal was about.

He wasn't too impressed with a bone stock Magnavox circuit, so he built his own...DG-SE1.

My friend up north picked the EFB (enhanced fixed bias) circuit for a Dynaco ST-35 amplifier project.

He really likes how the EFB works with the amplifier, and very very happy with the sound.

Appreciate all the comments and really appreciate the link to Daves site. I was not aware he had a website

Looks like a Franken-Amp. Not really, good job.

`How the hell would you know ?  I would pit this amps sound against anything 1K and below......................Its not a beauty queen but it sure sounds beautiful. Which is what audio is supposed to be about !!!!!!!!

  5. Selling my DG-SE1 EL84 pure Class A, Single Ended amp It started life as a Magnavox Design. They have a huge thread over on AK about the Mods and results. This particular amp was scratch built has all new X-Formers etc... Uses a pair of EL84 (RCA Included that measure 90+ on my Tester) it uses the 12A-7 Variant driver tubes, I will include a vintage 12ax7 which offers the most gain (I personally preferred a 12au7) I am also including a Dumont 5ar4 rectifier. There is a schematic of the design attached to the bottom plate inside the amp.

I am Selling the ugly duckling for 350.00, Plus shipping.  On this amp.  I will only accept Friends and Family because of the DIY nature and appearance of the amp, I do guarantee it will not be DOA beyond that its AS IS. I have no reason to believe this amp will not last for years I have played it several times for 4-5 hours straight without any issues. It holds Bias well

Bias is to be set at 5.6 VDC up to a max of 5.85 VDC The Bias being lower or higher can theoretically change the sound, I personally like to stress my tubes less and set all my amps on the low side of Bias.......................You will need a multi meter that measures DC,  there are test ports on top of the amp along with Pots to adjust the Bias

The amp is 100% functional, and IMHO you will have to spend a considerable amount more to get better SQ.......................I have no use for 4 different EL84 amps, My other amps do not necessarily sound better they did however cost 3X as much

Link to the thread discussing the amp's   https://www.audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/magnavox-flea-power-getting-more-out-of-the-8600-series-a-lot-more.665735/

I used to think I was the worst I knew. But Joe, you got me beat...........😁

Unfortunately I have lots of folks beat 😒.  Sad reality is I would never have known about this hidden GEM had I not taken a chance on it.  That rings true on many bits I consider a bargain in audio. I wish I was closer to folks and could listen by visiting, I had that opportunity in the past but I am more or less SOLO where I live now. If I dont buy it I can hear it. This little amp is one of my best all time IMHO Price paid for sound obtained is ridiculously Low

  7. The Little amp that could !!!!!!!!!!!!!  So browsing over on AK I came across this little amp for sale. Its a modified Magnavox 8600 design runs in pure Class A, Is tube rectified and sounds simply amazing, this thing has detail, clarity, resolution, and believe it or not it has great bass. I dare say you will have to spend 1K+ from the normal manufacturers to even get close to the sound this amp produces.

Curious if anyone has paired their Chorus I speakers with the Decware SE84UFO or any Decware amp for that matter.

I am 370 or so on the waiting list of 500 and should have mine by June.

I emailed Steve Deckert himself to ask his opinions on this exact subject. His response pretty much sums it up, and now I am even more excited to get my amp.

I have had several Decware amps and have a pair of mono block SE84CKC currently The amps sound wonderful as already stated. BUT you can not expect 2 WPC to DRIVE a 15" woofer to THUMP type levels. Listening at moderate levels will  produce a sound that manufactured production amps costing 2 or 3 times the price would have a hard time sounding better. At the end of the day Maynard is right its your ears that will tell you if you like the sound. Of note all Decware amps seem to do well on the used market should you go past the trial period and find you want more

You'll notice that I haven't purchased anything in a long time...

I've never thought of the sound being a bloom because I usually associate bloom with bad or bloated LF... but bloom does describe it well.

I like you never really attached a name to it, I agree Bloom is an accurate descriptor.  I would like to hear that DAC of yours some day, Price is outta my range though currently

Recently added to my Long List of Tube gear over the years, This one is VERY hard to come by and after getting to listen to it I know why they rarely come up for sale. If you see one on the used market DONT WAIT they are THAT GOOD

I took a look in the belly of the beast and was pleasantly surprised to find V-Caps..................Thats how you know no expense was spared in voicing the amp, by Mr. Vaughn

Nice.  I will be looking for this amp in the Garage Sale forum next week.  If I may inquire, what were you listening to when you experienced this magic?

You will be waiting a Long time I am afraid. The Vaughn is Good enough IMHO that I absolutely know 100% you will not beat the sound at even double the price IOW... It's a Keeper.

I dont pay attention to specific tracks when listening and I hear something wonderful I am just into the music...............That said tonight I was Listening to Tony Joe White Greatest Hits and it was the best I have heard it on speakers, Diana Krall stands out also Wallflower.

  12. I have had a couple amps over the years that approx 2 hours into a listening session the soundstage would take on a holographic nature (I really liked that) I never knew what to call it, and in fact I thought it was an anomaly. I took possession of an Eddie Vaughn Carina today and the manual speaks about Bloom at or near 2 hours. =The manual states there will be 3 stages in the tubes sound 1= while tubes are freshly turned on, still not warm / hot, 2= tubes reach full operating temp, & 3= Bloom

Anyone here experienced this ?  If so what amps did you experience the effect

For me it was with a Decware Taboo MK II on speakers and headphones, and on  the original Schiit Valhalla on headphones
