  1. i was wondering if this would be more cost effective than having a used pair shipped to nyc? i honestly don't feel like making a 5 hour drive somewhere to pick up speakers, and i don't have a truck, so i'd have to rent or make two trips.

i found the plans in another thread for the cabinets. it seems doable from my perspective. the only question is how much do the parts cost? can they be bought directly from klipsch?

    thanks for your help.

  2. christ.. they sound like crap compared to even rf3's..

i can't stand to listen to them without a sub. i'll try to pull $200 for them on ebay

edit: i have noticed some thing though. i can hear some details on the ohm's that arent present with my rf-3's. like the trumpet in the beginning of "i'm your boogie man" by kc and the sunshine band. even when i try an equalizer, i can't get them to come out on the rf3. odd

  3. i have an old pair of ohm walsh speakers. i'm not sure if they're 1's 100's or 1xo's...

there is no model number on the outside, so i'm going to open them up to try to identify them.

they're in decent condition with the usual nicks around the edges, but work perfectly.

does anyone here have experience with ohm walsh speakers? i have absolutely no idea what they're worth. i no longer have the covers unfortunately, but they can still be purchased from the manufacturer for like $30. i hear they were pretty high end for their time (late 80's). i'd love to sell them to help me fund some rf7's or (gasp) maybe something form klipsch's heritage line!

  4. pardon my ignorance, but i've been doing some research on capacitors and this is one question that was always in the back of my mind. take note that i haven't listened to any of the caps i will be mentioning (yet)

howcome a 10% auricap supposedly sounds better than a 5% dayton? i thought 5% was a better value? wouldnt the cap with the tightest values logically sound better? howcome hovlands cost so much more than solens? they seem to have the same specs on paper, but their prices sure are different.

while surfing google, i came across this http://www.audioholics.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-4948.html

they did blind a/b tests with various expensive/cheap caps, and people couldn't really tell the difference.

i am neutral on the subject. i can't really form a legitimate opinion without hearing both for myself. i personally am going with more expensive caps to upgrade my crossovers (auricaps) just to play it safe, but i've heard a lot of conflicting reports.

i'd like to hear your unbiased opinions on the matter.

  5. as you all know, some sub amplifiers have inputs and outputs.

i was wondering if using the outputs on your sub actually DIVIDES the signal according to the cutoff frequency, or if the cutoff frequency setting only sets the maximum frequency the subwoofer can produce.

for example, if i have my cutoff on the sub set to 70hz, and i'm running my mains through it, which can go as low as 35 hz, will my mains and sub simultaneously produce 45hz signals? or will my mains now roll off at 70hz, while the rest of the signal is exclusively sent to the sub.

  6. oh, i forgot to mention.

i was browsing the audiogon forums yesterday and came across a thread where atleast five people said the mc250 was TERRIBLE.

i'm not sure what on earth they were talking about, unless im being blinded by a hardcore placebo effect. perhaps it sounds bad on other speakers, but that's far from the truth with klipsch.

  7. i'm using it with rf-3ii's.

i must say for the price, it sounds pretty decent. i bought it off audiogon, and it was in pristine condition.

i don't have a pre-amp at the moment. i'm connecting my soundcard (santa cruz) directly to the amp, so i probably am not seeing its full potential.

i read somewhere that connecting your 8 ohm speakers to the 4 ohm tap will increase soundstage and bass. i'll give that a try after i submit this thread, and let you guys know how it goes.

feel free to chime in with suggestions, comments, negative/positive opinions on this amp.

  8. hello again. thanks for the help, guys.

i will be connecting multiple things to a projector, such as my computer, future dvd player, cable box, perhaps a vcr, etc... so directly connecting my "source" to my "main display" is a bit out of the question, as it lacks all the needed inputs.

i heard someone mention a radio shack "switch." that seems to be what i'm looking for. i'll research this more, and check it out tomorrow when i go to buy some banana plugs.

    thanks again.

  9. hi. this is my first post here.

i'm going to be using 2.1 sound for my home theater viewing due to room size restrictions. i wanted to buy a tube pre-amp to go with my mc-250 ss amp. i was wondering what the other piece of equipment i need to buy is called. i want to connect all of my video to some kind of main "hub" like an a/v receiver or surround sound pre/pro would have.

i know some newer 2 channel tube amps may have svideo, component, composite, etc.. connectors, but they're way out of my pricerange. i suppose if worse comes to worse, i'll just go with one of the parasound ss preamps, as they seem to have the video outputs i need, but i'd really prefer to try tube.

    thanks.
