  1. w00t! Just received my amp back from Elliot-tronics today. Absolutely awesome to have my amp back up and running. I can't recommend this guy enough. He was very responsive through the whole process and kept his word on the turn time. They sound better than ever now! The sound is more pronounced and accurate and the subwoofer is delivering like I've never heard it do before.

If your amp is failing and don't know about how to fix it yourself, don't hesitate to contact him and get your repair setup. It was well worth it!

  2. My thoughts exactly, Satchel. I've had mine for 5 years before they finally started producing the symptoms that others had been experiencing. I sent my Amp to elliot on 10/19/09. I hope to have the amp back this week. I'm very excited as I don't believe there is another PC speaker system on the market that matches the 5.1 ultra's (Unless you consider the iFi a direct competitor).

  3. Hey all, I've already upgraded the Front L/R speakers to the Klipsch RSX-5's, but the rear speakers & center are still stock. I've mostly seen the RCX-4 as the center upgrade for these speakers. However, I've found a RC-35 locally for $100 (Used), and wondering if the Bash Amp would be able to accommodate a center channel of that size?

Also, if it would work, would it be too overpowering compared to the RSX-5's?

  4. My personal favorite for testing my HT setup is Star Trek First Contact. Watch the battle scene with starfleet against the borg cube. Definately a great 10 Minutes of sonic bliss.

Also the Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith works well (hell any Star Wars film works well).

  5. Is this THE best home-audio subwoofer on the market in terms of specs? Also, how would it pair up with the speakers from the THX-Ultra2 System? Possibly overpowering or would it be a match made in heaven? How 'bout the high end speakers from the reference line as well?

What kind of amp(s) would you use to run this system? Crown? Or would a high output HT Reciever work as well?

I know I sound like a damn n00b (because I am), but this is still interesting as hell for pions such as myself who could only dream to afford something like that.

  6. Wrong. I owned the Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1LT (same SPU that's on the M-Audio Revolution) before moving to the X-Fi, and only in the Gaming dept. does the X-Fi truely outperform the VIA Envy 24-HT SPU. I'll actually goes as far as saying that music with the Audiotrak sounded just a tad bit better than that of the X-Fi (although that is subjective), it's pretty much factual that the VIA Envy chip is atleast on par with that of the X-Fi in terms of music and movie playback.

EDIT: I meant to quote Fouraces when I typed the above statement.

  7. Yeah, he may game faster than you, but even with him @ 2.5GHz, you'll

still be able to out-do him in about any multi-tasking environment. And

I bet your system sounds better too ;)

  8. I'm going to have to agree, Sarah McLachlan in my opinion is the best

female artist out right now, and is one of my favorite artists of all

time. She has a lot of emotion in her vocals and on top of that a great

piano player. Fallen, is definately in my top 5 for my favorite songs.

And yes, these Klipsch speakers definately do her voice/music justice.

    :)

  9. I just ordered an ifi (from ebay) to use as a

computer 2.1 setup. I'll post a report once I get it hooked up

and broken in. I love my big Klipsch sound system, and in the

past I enjoyed the Promedia Ultras (currently with my girlfriend), but

I'm really looking forward to hooking these puppies up to see what they

    can do with computer sound...

    Scott

The satellites on the iFi (RSX-3's) are definately superior to the

ProMedia Ultra's. It'd be nice if you could do a little side by side

comparison of both to see how they sound in relation to one another.

Hope you enjoy your new system. :)

  10. I also own the X-Fi Platinum, and all I have to say is my PM 5.1Ultras

have never sounded this good. Beyond the annoyance of not being able to

get my S/PDIF Coaxial input to actually playback audio it's the best

sound card I have ever owned (this is coming from a Prodigy 7.1LT which

I still think sounds fantastic). That's all I have to say about it.

  11. Hi all, I just recently purchased an Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum. I'm

trying to hook up my Digital Turntable (Yes it has S/PDIF Coaxial

Output) to my Front I/O Drive that came with the sound card. Every time

I hook up the Turntable, I get absolutely no sound from it, no matter

which setting I set in the Drivers for S/PDIF or Digital Input. I then

tried my external DVD player with the Coaxial input, and also got

absolutely no sound. I then tried an optical cable with the I/O drive

and the sound worked just fine.

Here's things I've done to troubleshoot this issue:

I tried multiple different Coaxial cables rated at 75-Ohms Resistance

I tried 2 different S/PDIF Coax sources to rule out the possibility that the S/PDIF Coax on the turntable was bad.

I even exchanged this card for a new one, just to make sure that the I/O drive wasn't bad.

I've unmuted both Digital in and S/PDIF in on the sound card and turn the volume up all the way.

I've tried all the S/PDIF input settings: "Dolby Digital/DTS SPDIF-in Decode", "Defualt" and "SPDIF Bypass" all to no avail.

I'm beyond confused as to why Optical would work but Coaxial

wouldn't... There's absolutely no difference between the two except the

medium in which the data travels. If anyone has any suggestions as to

why this doesn't work, or how I can go about resolving this issue, I'd

    be very appreciative. Thanks all.

  12. Hi all, I'm trying to figure out what the best lossless audio format

is, and knowing that there is quite a few Audiophiles here I thought

this would be the best place to ask. I've been ripping a lot of songs

from my CD's and putting them on my computer as 16-bit 44.1kHz .WAV

files. Is .WAV the best lossless audio format? Or is there better?

    Thanks for any input. :)

  13. I would definately employ a layered approach

utilizing both the hardware based firewall as well as a local software

    based firewall.

Routers are not that difficult to circumvent.

And I personally prefer ZoneAlarm Pro for the desktop.

    ESPECIALLY

if you are using any form of wireless prior to the new 802.11i-AES

security standard that supercedes both the broken WEP and Wi-FI that

utilize the fundamentally flawed RC4 cypher primative.

I agree with dragonfyr. I myself also use the layered security

approach. I have a Netgear WGT624 for my Wireless home network, It has

WPA-SK encryption and Stateful Packet Inspection (which I think is

truely a must in todays routers). Although I'm not familiar with the

AES wireless security standard. Could you be more specific dragonfyr on

    what that is/does? Thanks.

I personally use Sygate Personal firewall, I also recommend ZoneAlarm

Pro, but it didn't play well with my Anti-virus so I had to find

    another solution. (I'm using NOD32 Anti-virus BTW).

Also, I have every computer on the network communicating in IPX/SPX

protocal instead of TCP/IP so computers outside of the network can't

"listen" in on the conversations between the home PCs.
