  1. Alright, I've read about Crown XLS 402 overt at avsforum and I think I'm sold...... Where are the Crown amps sold? I'd prefer to buy from a local dealer so I can demo it with my setup...... if not, there are tons of places on Ebay I can cheap.....
  2. quality does come into play with the power issue.... all of the amps i listed will definitely sound better than a 50 watt receiver... movies and some music can contain very sudden and high transient demands which can instantly require 10 to 30 times the power level of your average listening level.... with very efficient klipsch speakers - the average level might vary from 1 watt to 3 watts or so.... if at 3 watts - you get a 30 times the power demand from the soundtrack and you have a 50 watt per channel receiver, the signal will clip.... in many instances this clipped signal is so quick that you might not hear the distortion.... but if you listen to the same passage again with a 200 watt amplifier, you WILL hear the improvement because now you are getting the full musical waveform and hearing all of the sound... ---------------- I've looked and there are some Rotel and NAD in my pricerange.... I also think it makes sense to take care of the front 3 channels first and then worry about the rest...... I've looked at the Crowns and have heard very good things about them

If 30 watts per channel is enough, I think you can get the TEAC 3 channel digital amps for under $100 shipped. Two for $200 and you've got yourself 30x6. TBrennan from the forum has one and he says it sounds very good. The only downside to it is that the volume controls are small and in the back, but if you use a reciever for a preamp, then you won't have to worry about it. ---------------- but how much of an improvement is that over an HK with digital amps? I'm new at this and want to be understand fully what the benefits are.....
  4. I'd say I'm about 70/30 in favor of movies....I have a fairly small room, maybe 14x10....something along those lines.... I'm not too worried about needing a lot of power.....but I was trying to find something that would help improve my quality.....
  5. any suggestions then for a 2 channel amp? I'll continue to do some research, but if I can get a deal on something used, that would be good.
  6. well, I'd like to get 5 channels....I've seen Rotel RB-985 for $500 and also considering an Outlaw 7100...... If I go for a new one, Id most likely go for the Outlaw 7100 at $899........
  7. I am looking at using my current receiver, HK DPR1001 as a pre/pro and buying a used amp somewhere....I had been looking at Outlaw 7100 amps, but I'm looking for anything used that would be an upgrade over my HK (50w/channel)..... My setup is currently 7.1 RF-35, RC-35, RS-3, RB-35, SVS Pci........
  8. I have the HK DPR1001 and I love it.....

  10. i might be interested in the amp......let me know what you decide on price.
  11. depends on where you get your Berklines.....some places are significantly cheaper than the MSRP.... avsforum.com has a good discussion of these over there.... see my reply in your thread.
  12. please be careful when looking at these Coaster showtime series seats.....there is a bunch of info over at avsforum.com but here is a wuick summary..... these chairs being sold are the old Showtime series.....basically not very comfortable....I have actually tried these and did not like them..... now, there are newer models of Coaster series referred to as showtime take II or director series: http://www.directfurniture.com/bllehoth.html these are the replicas of Berkline 90s.....these are highly recommended..... just want people to be cautious when looking at these seats.
  13. I went with the Berkline 90s......definitely very excited to get them, but now I have the long wait.....
  14. I agree, the Who Live at Royal Albert Hall is a very good concert DVD....
  15. Pearl Jam's Live at the Garden or Touring Band 2000 are a must!
  16. I really like the E80s at BB....but you can find them very cheap just about anywhere else....JBL doesn't control theprice very tightly.

Many hear are talking about cranking a speaker to very loud volumes. This is not a way to test speakers. If a speaker clips at BB ask yourself, what are they driving those with? At best probably a HT receiver from Sony. If all you want to do is rock you probably are not looking for refined sound anyway. ---------------- I couldn't agree with you more....after not wanting the synergy, I almost went for JBL E80 or E90.....glad I found the reference.....

  19. I have tried this. Originally, I bought F-3s from BB...I got them home and didn't like them.....not enough bass and not a clear sound (to me)......I was about to not buy any klipsch until I found what a good deal I could get on the RF-35s......to me the difference was night and day (this is after demoing both at home).
  20. not sure if this is of interest to anyone...... http://www.hometheaterspot.com/htsthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/700683/an/0/page/0#700683
  21. any other info here on seats? I think the Berkline's are out of my price range....I'm looking at a 2 seater.....also, each seat can be detached for moving, right?
  22. any other seating options? I'm leaning towards the Coaster recliners at 890/pair with free shipping.....anything else come close to this? Other options include the Movie-Goer seats.......

I will say the F-3's are capable of 'hi-output' By my math, a 600 watt peak would mean at 1 meter, the F-3's can put out ~120 dB.!!! ---------------- but with bargaining on the RF-35s, you can get them for cheaper than the BB price on the Synergy....
