  1. I have yet to have an issue with either my R6's or X7's. I would recommend either set and often do.

From what you wrote it sounds like you are really hard on your equipment.

I know some 'In Ear Headphones' come with detachable cables but the hardware to support this feature introduces weight. While the idea is good the extra weight just is not worth it in my book. If you take proper care the cable should last a very long time. More chance of dropping your 'In Ear Headphones' in a cup of coffee than breaking the cable.

    http://www.klipsch.com/Education/headphones-faq

    How durable are Klipsch headphones?

Klipsch put their headphones through extensive “real world” testing to ensure long-lasting durability. You’ll find reliable strain relief at every cable connection point to help prevent wire damage. However, cable wear occurs over time, so you should always take special care of your headphones.

Yes, it is easy to break.  I'm on my 3rd set (2 replacement sets in less than a year).  The first had a lot of grounding issues - had to replace it after a day.  The second's sound went bad despite a lack of external damages.  Now, the right earphone on my 3rd is exhibiting some rattling noise on certain tracks that are particularly stressful on high frequencies - all in less than a year.

And I've had 2 s4is prior to this - both broke within the first 6 monhts.  I've always loved Klipsch's sound quality but this is ridiculous - x7is are not exactly cheap.

I haven't tried the detachable Shures, though - but that's looking like a good prospect for my next set.

  2. Good FAQ here: http://www.klipsch.com/Education/headphones-faq

I think it would be good for the FAQ to be right on the product pages. The FAQ is not easy to find but well worth the look.

I have a pair of the X7's and I got my wife a pair of the R6;s. Both are awesome in their own rights.

Why am I not getting enough bass response?

It’s probably because you don’t have a good ear seal. Be sure to try out the various ear tip sizes, as you may find that you need the double flange design for the best possible seal. You may also want to try pulling the ear tip out slightly, as it may have collapsed.

How do I know if I have a good seal?

When no music is playing, your voice should sound louder and ambient noise should sound quieter, very similar to wearing a pair of ear plugs. Creating a tighter seal is simple. Insert the ear tip into the ear canal and then gently pull it back. This adjustment eliminates virtually all external noise so you can play your music at a lower volume, for a longer period of time, without experiencing ear fatigue.

  3. The MX119 has toslink and optical outputs so you could use a headphone amp/DAC with TOSLINK or coaxial inputs. I use a couple of these and they work great.

Turtle Beach Ear Force DSS 7.1 Channel Dolby Surround Sound Processor. I bought two of these at $14.99 and now they are $13.99. I also bought a 2x4 TOSlink Optical Audio Splitter Distribution Amplifier Amp Distributor Multiplier. Can select two different toslink inputs and have four outputs. I am only using two outputs right now. Both outputs go to each of the Turtle Beach DSS devices.

Nice thing is the headphone amp does handle Dolby but downside is it does not handle DTS.

Works very well with my Klipsch X7 'In Ear Headphones'.

If you don't care about Dolby the SMSL SD793-II PCM1793 also works well. I use this DAC in the bedroom.

  4. Been a long time since I posted here but my Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1's got the loud hum a couple of years back and I just switched to the Klipsch 2.1 set I also had. Just no time to look at it. So the Ultra'

s have been setting in my storage area for a long time just waiting for me to look at them.

Well I picked up two 100uf cap's from Radio Shack and my Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1's are as good as new!

    All good again!

    Air (band)

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_%28band%29

Air is a French duo, consisting of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel. Nicolas Godin studied architecture at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Versailles whereas Jean-Benoît Dunckel studied mathematics before forming a band in 1995. Their debut EP, Premiers Symptômes, was followed by the critically acclaimed album Moon Safari, the re-release of Premiers Symptômes, The Virgin Suicides (soundtrack), 10,000Hz Legend, Everybody Hertz, and Talkie Walkie.

Although Air's music is often referred to as electronica, their form of electronic music really owes more to the synthesizer sounds of the 1970s such as Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Pierre LeBouef and Francis Lai. Other influences are psychedelic rock pioneers Pink Floyd; Krautrockers Tangerine Dream; Jean-Jacques Perrey (although there are some echoes of dance music styles in the production); and French crooner Serge Gainsbourg. Air's music also has jazz inflections at times.

If you love Electronica this group from France will fill the bill.

Listening to the catchy rhythm or 'Air` songs you will find yourself playing the song in your head throughout the day.

    Notes

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Producers: Mike Oldfield, Tom Newman, Trevor Horn. A second "variation" on the album that put both Oldfield and Virgin Records on the map probably didn't seem like such a bad idea--especially with a guy like Trevor Horn enlisted to help produce. That said, TUBULAR BELLS 2 is quite good. It is a derivation, naturally, but one that has been fleshed out, further expounded upon, and given a modern '90s gloss. Horn's is relegated to the background, but his involvement is vital. He makes Oldfield's permutations flicker with an Art of Noise resonance, and the songs--which really play as one grand suite--have a palpable luster immersed within the absolutely excellent production. All of Oldfield's trademarks are brought to the fore here; the music is pastel, austere, vibrant, twinkling, and eccentric. For this second chapter, Oldfield brings along everything from synths and guitars to glockenspiel and other assorted percussive instruments--including tubular bells. Maybe history can in fact repeat itself.

Yes this is the same Julia Thornton from Roxy Music.

This CD is not rock it is 100% pure classical and 100% pure harp. This is some great relaxing music. If you like to relax to soft classical and you love harp.... then this CD is worth a spin. I actually got this one in a little over a week ago but saved the review for this week.

As a solo recital, Eye of the Storm is the perfect counterpoint to Julia's lushly orchestrated 2003 EMI debut 'Harpistry'.

After winning a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, I studied there for 5 years, winning many prizes including the Julia Leney and Renata Schefelstein harp awards, and both the harp prizes at the Royal Overseas League competition. I was also awarded the Mathias Prize for the best performance of his Sante Fe Suite at the International Harp Competition in Cardiff.

After leaving college my career involved a mixture of teaching, orchestral and solo work. I performed with a variety of orchestras, opera and ballet company's, and gave recitals including performances at the Cambridge, Beaumaris and Cheltenham music festivals.

I began working with Bryan Ferry in October 1999. I performed both harp and percussion on his 'As Time Goes By' tour, which was a collection of 1930s standards such as the title track. Together with a band which included a jazz horn section, a piano and a string quartet, we toured for almost a year, starting in the USA, and visiting Europe, Russia, South Africa and Indonesia. My work with Bryan has taken me all over the globe, to some of the most beautiful concert halls and famous venues in history.

    It takes some pluck

    (Filed: 01/11/2004)

While on a tour with Bryan Ferry, Julia Thornton confused the local press in Hong Kong, which ran a picture story wondering whether that was Jerry Hall, Bryan's ex, on stage. Several fans wrote to her suggesting she should be the next Roxy Music cover model.

For several Ferry and Roxy Music tours, she's been contributing both glamour and her exceptional harp and percussion playing, as well as establishing an adventurous solo career and doing sessions for newer artists such as Susheela Raman.

She says the archetypal "ethereal harpist" couldn't survive these days - the modern harp requires a lot of stamina for one thing: "There's about seven pounds' pull on each string." Thornton has also had to be tough and resilient in her career.

After finishing her studies at the Royal Academy in London, to which she won a scholarship, she found herself taking "surreal bookings". She recalls turning up at one birthday party in Kensington to be told she had to change in the broom cupboard. "Then the wife found out I was Jewish, and she wanted me to get in touch with her son at university - she thought I'd make a suitable girlfriend."

Thornton got the Roxy Music work after the wife of Bryan Ferry's producer heard her play at a yoga class. The exposure on the band's tours helped get her a major record deal with EMI, and in 2003 she made a record, Harpistry, which was widely admired.

But she wasn't entirely happy with the result. "I had to please too many people there was a serious amount of compromise involved," she says. One thing she disliked was the over-polished production "You hear a Paul Weller or Eric Clapton record, or someone like Glenn Gould playing, and it's full of character - nowadays in classical music, everything has to be perfect and clean.

Any slight imperfections are edited out in the studio, the edge is lost. A friend said to me recently that there are no session musicians any more, we are merely sound-wave donors." EMI was pushing her as a Vanessa-Mae type classical babe.

"At least they didn't ask me to take my kit off," she says. "And I met my husband at EMI - he works in the art department - so it wasn't all bad."

Having "asked EMI to drop me", she has taken the formidable challenge of setting up her own record label, Crossways, and recently released a more strictly classical album, Eye of the Storm, which features preludes by Bach and Tournier.

"I loved the idea of selecting music that has a special place in one's heart," she says. "Pieces or songs that, as I was studying the harp with my teacher Daphne Boden, I grew to love like old friends." It's a risk, but she's happier with her new freedom, and is now experimenting writing her own material. Last month, she played some sophisticated electronic music at the Ocean in Hackney, east London.

As for her being the next Roxy Music cover model, "the suggestion would have to come from Bryan perhaps we'll leave it at that, shall we?"

  10. Great selection....Super Session is one great CD!!!

That YouTube video was very cool too..

I did a review of the remastered CD on 06/14/2006 right here on Klipsch.

The remastered CD did add a few unreleased songs that were not available on the LP version. "Blues for Nothing" for example is one great song that is only on the remaster series.

This album is available on CD. Happy listening.

    20 - From The Inside

    21 - Clones (We're All)

    22 - Poison

    Greg's pick: Track #21 - Clones (We're All)

The Alice Cooper Group: Alice Cooper (vocals); Michael Bruce (guitar, keyboards, background vocals); Glen Buxton (guitar); Dennis Dunaway (bass, background vocals); Neal Smith (drums, background vocals). Producers include: Bob Ezrin, David Foster, Michael Wagener, Desmond Child, Jack Douglas. Compilation producers: David McLees, Brian Nelson. Includes liner notes by Jeffrey Morgan and Alice Cooper. This is a one-disc distillation of the four-disc box set THE LIFE AND CRIMES OF ALICE COOPER, and as such represents the cream of the shock-rock legend's output. The earlier songs (1970 to 1974), featuring the original lineup, are classic rock & roll. Managing the difficult feat of being both clever and commercially accessible, these songs were of course a huge influence on the late-'70s punk rock that followed (Johnny Rotten auditioned for the Sex Pistols by singing along with Cooper's generational anthem "I'm Eighteen"). The later material here, from "Only Women Bleed" to "Poison," is just as well crafted--Cooper performs with a combination of irony and malevolence that a certain Marilyn Manson no doubt studied long and hard.

    http://www.rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=75806

Most rock fans know that Alice Cooper wrote the book on shock-rock from the late 60s through the early 80s, with his outrageous costumes, horrific stage theatrics, and smart-assed hard rock songs about teenage rebellion.

In 1999, we presented the long-awaited The Life And Crimes Of Alice Cooper 4-CD box set, and everywhere Ol Black Eyes went to promote it, the fans loved it. But they also said that they were dying for a single CD with nothin but the biggest hits.

We listened, and here it isa deluxe expanded and remastered version of his Greatest Hits, originally released in 1974 on Warner Bros. Records, updated to include his very best through 1990. Mascara & Monsters features 22 mortifyingly massive hits on a single monster CD, including Schools Out, Im Eighteen, Under My Wheels, Welcome To My Nightmare, Poison, and more.

In the later years with Roxy Music or while he was promoting his solo career the selection was always top notch.

Let's look at a few members in the "Live In Paris" concert.

    Julia Thornton - Harp/Percussion

Pavane - Anon 16th Century for example is wonderful. Yes it's classical... I know, Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music are rock... but rock is great with fantastic musicians!

And then there is Colin Good. Colin Good studied music at Queen's College Oxford and then since then has forged a career in the London swing and vintage jazz scene.

Influenced by Earl Hines and Teddy Wilson, Colin once toured with The Inkspots, and has composed regularly for theatre, television and film.

    BLIND FAITH ...............CD ........... 1969 .........

    Eric Clapton ... Steve Winwood ... Ginger Baker ... Rich Grech ... the first of many of the so called SuperGroups...Four young ,diverse, talented musicians looking for an outlet for their musicial ideas and songs, tired of being stuck in a mold with the music they have already done.....well they found it here, six well crafted and performed songs worthy of Supergroup status........A vocalist who really is a voice of a generation, and just happens to play a pretty good keyboards, a Guitarist who was considered by many a superstar at the tender age of 17, a drummer's Drummer second to none, and a multi talented Bassist, what's not to like;

    1 Had to Cry Today

2 Can't Find My Way Home

    3 Well All Right

    4 Presence of the Lord

    5 Sea of Joy

    6 Do What you Like

six great songs, well written, well played pieces of music.......One album and gone....but.. never forgotten....this is a Rock Classic and should be part of every Rock collection......Many supergroups have come and gone, many sold more albums, many got more airplay......but they can never touch this group of talented men....None...

    This CD is simply lovely!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loreena_McKennitt

McKennitt is often compared to Enya, but is more grounded in traditional and classical invocations using literary works as sources of lyrics and springboards for interpretation such as The Lady of Shalott by Lord Tennyson, Prospero's Speech, the final soliloquy in William Shakespeare's The Tempest, Snow by Archibald Lampman, William Blakes Prospero, intended for a dramatic piece of King Edward the fourth and The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes.

"A good traveller has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving."

Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu's words are a good introduction to the third album in a trilogy of musical travel documents that began with The Visit. Recorded at Peter Gabriel's Real World studios in England, The Book Of Secrets was written and researched all over the world, and, following its release in 1997, would go on to sell several million copies around the globe.

The album features a cast of over two dozen musical collaborators, and the eight songs contained therein, including North American hit single The Mummers Dance, leads the listener on unexpected journeys. Follow the music from ancient Byzantium to a puppet-maker's theatre in Sicily, or from the rocky island of Skellig Michael once inhabited by Irish monks in the Dark Ages to Venice and the journeys of Marco Polo, or from the tragic narrative of The Highwayman to the thunder of hooves across the Caucasus and the echoes of Dante s words found, unexpectedly, in a train journey across Siberia.

  17. No problem....

Up on Cripple Creek - The Band ( The band at their best! )

Helpless - Neil Young/The Band ( Neil Young as I like to here him. )

This is a must have DVD.

One of the best looking and sounding DVD's I own!

The disc by MGM, presented in anamorphic widescreen detail, is beautifully and lovingly reworked to give us this enduring document. The colors are vibrantly displayed and the detail is perfect. I'm not surprised either, given the fact that Martin Scorsese was involved. This is concert footage shot in 1976 and yet you have to be impressed with the picture quality. The audio is equally spectacular. Mixed in Dolby Digital 5.1, as well as the requisite 2.0, the channels are all in good use. The 5.1 rear channels are very active and provide an immersive feeling that only serves to enhance the absorption of the film. Remember, 1976!

  19. When you think of George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison what group comes to mind?

    Yes the Traveling Wilburys!!!

If you like the sound of the above artists then you must find and buy these CD's.

Yes... another must have selection from Greg!

    VH1 BIOGRAPHY

Reversing the usual process by which groups break up and give way to solo careers, the Traveling Wilburys are a group made up of solo stars. The group was organized by former Beatle George Harrison, former Electric Light Orchestra leader Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison, thus representing three generations of rock stars. In 1988, the five (who had known each other for years) came together to record a Harrison B-side single and ended up writing and recording an album on which they shared lead vocals. It turned out to be a way to transcend the high expectations made of any of them as individuals, and a delighted public sent the album to number three, with two singles, "Handle With Care" and "End of the Line" hitting the charts. Unfortunately, Orbison died of a heart attack only a few weeks after the album's release.

Two years later, the remaining quartet released a second album, inexplicably titled Vol. 3. Although it didn't match the success of the first Wilburys album, it was another million-selling hit. Throughout the '90s, there were rumors of another Traveling Wilburys record in the works, but no new albums from the group surfaced. Harrison and Lynne did re-team in 1995, when Lynne produced and reworked two John Lennon demos with the Beatles for their Anthology rarities collection. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
