  3. I have something a little different today. While the video quality is not a great as technoligy will allow today this historic piece does allow us to see great performances that otherwise just would just not be possible at all. The performances by the Kinks and Animals alone make this is a must have DVD. With over four hours of video on a single DVD you will find yourself entertained for hours on end. Hullabaloo, Vols. 5-8 (1965) Format: Black & White, NTSC DVD Release Date: May 22, 2001 Run Time: 270 minutes # DVD Features: * Available Subtitles: English * Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 1.0) * Seven complete television episodes (2-16-65, 9-27-65, 10-25-65, 11-1-65, 11-15-65, 3-28-66, 4-4-66) * 18 bonus performances * Digitally remastered audio * Segments hosted by the Beatles' manager Brian Epstein from London * Menu selections by program or by artist "A wonderful look back at thei'Swinging 60's' with fashion, dialog and plenty of music!" Unlike anything you'll see on television today, the vintage show Hullabaloo featured live performances from some of the most popular musical artists as well as up-and-coming stars. Airing oniNBC-TV (1965-1966), the network didn't realize the value of the show and discarded most of the video masters. Fortunately, the shows have been salvaged from black-and-white kinescopes and the audio has been digitally restored so that we can savor the original performances from legendary artists including: Frankie Avalon The Beau Brummels Chad & Jeremy Petula Clark The Everly Brothers Marianne Faithfull Freddie & The Dreamers Annette Funicello Dobie Gray The Kingsman The Kinks Brenda Lee The Lovin' Spoonful The Outsiders The Rolling Stones Soupy Sales The Shangri-Las Del Shannon Joe Tex The Toys We Five The Young Rascals The Zombies and many more! It was also fun to see Soupy Sales with the pie in the face but hey... he sang too. Some may not remember but the Soupy Sales show was one of the most popular shows on TV for a number of years. Greg
  4. Come on now. The Royal Albert Hall London, May 2-3-5-6 2005 Cream concert will go down in history as one of the greatest rock events of all time. I have been a long time Cream fan and this DVD is in my book their best work ever. The quality to great and the performace is beyond belief. When Ginger Baker played Toad... Well it just can't get in better. When I heard Toad for the first time on "Wheels of Fire" I knew how great this performance was. All the Cream works were live including the "Wheels of Fire" version of Toad. Now I will admit that Toad played on the Ginger Baker's Air Force CD is just awesome. But in this case still not as good as the 2005 concert. I would have liked to see it. The Ginger Baker's Air Force version of Toad was also live but had six drummers all playing at the same time! I consider the Royal Albert Hall London, May 2-3-5-6 2005 Cream to be the best DVD I own right now. For those who did not care for it... each to his own I guess. Greg

  9. ANT REMASTERS LIMITED EDITION COLLECTORS SET My wife has always been a big Adam Ant fan so I decided to get her the special "Ant Remasters Boxset with Redux" for her birthday. I finished the collection by adding the prior remasters which made a great Christmas present and completed the boxset. To be honest I was not a huge Adam Ant fan when I decided to get this boxset and additional remasters. I knew my wife loved his music and that was enough for me. Thing is I found Adam Ant to be a very versatile performer and musician. Marco Pirroni who wrote most of the music is outstanding. Adam Ant is actually now one of my favorite performers. I can listen to Adam Ant for hours without getting bored with his music due to the varity of content and style. Adam Ant was one hell of a singer and drummer. The more you hear him play the more you know this man is more than just outstanding. "Despirate But Not Serious" has some of the greatest horn section I have heard in a long time. The guitar in "Man Called Marco" is just plain awesome. Once the boxset is fully complete the collection offers some of the finest music ever heard. Each remasters CD includes a great deal of extra content. This special box set is packaged with the three new remasters , PLUS provide extra storage space for the previously released gems - Dirk Wears White Sox, Kings of the Wild Frontier and Prince Charming that were released in 2004. "Adam Ant Remastered" will hold all six remasters nicely but with an added bonus! To complete the set, a 15-track bonus disc "Adam Ant-Redux"; a selection of rare demo tracks will also be included! In addition, this will also feature a unheard cover of Marc Bolan's 'Dandy In The Underworld, and sleeve notes by Adam Ant and Marco Pirroni. Vibe, January 2002 Named Sade's Lovers Rock Tour the "Best Concert Tour" of the Year. She mesmerizes the crowd, dancing subtly yet sensuously as her aphrodisiac voice soars into our ears, our hearts, and our hips, driving us to lunar madness. · USA Today, July 24, 2001 Sade's tour heralds rebirth of the cool. Today's dime-a-dozen divas would be wise to take a lesson from Sade, an enduring pop-soul icon who beguiles and bewitches without resorting to vocal gymnastics, strip-club choreography or sequined lingerie. · Philadelphia Tribune, August 17, 2001 But Sade in concert is nothing less than tranquility in its purest form. That magic is now captured on LOVERS LIVE a live DVD which features highlights from the Lovers Rock Tour and includes new songs as well as classic hits such as "Is It A Crime", "Sweetest Taboo" and "Smooth Operator". The official Sada website includes clips from this "Lover Live" DVD which may be viewed online. http://www.sade.com/sade/ Sade - (pronounced shar-day)
  11. Great pick! I must admit that the 2005 concert of Cream on DVD is their best work of all time. The sound from the Cream 2005 concert DVD is fantastic as well. Cream was always best live. There album of fame "Weels of Fire" was a live concert. One interesting note here. Ginger Baker does not rehearse. The concert was done without any rehearsal. The concerts are really more of a jam session which is never played exactly the same. Toad while we hear the same segments in "Weels of Fire", "Ginger Baker's Air Force" the 2005 concert was still different. Still the speed at which Ginger Baker moves them drum sticks is something to behold. When I first got the 2005 concert DVD I played toad so much I think everyone here knows the song beat by beat. I do have the tea-shirts from the 2005 Cream concert! Greg
  12. Well Christmas was very good here and I got one more rare CD to share. Imagine if you will a live concert with not only Ginger Baker but a who's who of major rock stars including "Graham Bond", "Stevie Winwood" and "Chris Wood" who later was in the group Traffic. Also imagine if you can Ginger Baker playing with two other drummers who's skills were something that had to be seen and heard. Neemoi Acquaye was called speedy and played later with Paul McCartney & Wings on the CD "BACK TO THE EGG". The other drummer "Phil Seaman". Baker's idol during the late '50s was Phil Seaman, a jazz drummer who was probably the best percussion player in England; his own playing tended toward an aggressiveness and articulation that were unusual in juxtaposition with each other. http://twtd.bluemountains.net.au/cream/ginger1.htm http://musicbase.h1.ru/PPB/ppb8/Bio_871.htm AIR FORCE - Live At The Royal Albert Hall Recorded live at London's Royal Albert Hall, January 15th, 1970. 1. Includes enhanced packaging. Polydor. 2003. Over the years since Cream, Jack has worked with many fine musicians. For a number of years he played in Robin Trower's band (The album 'BLT' gets its name from the the initial letters of the musicians Jack Bruce, Bill Lordan and Robin Trower, who recorded it). In 1972-73, he joined with Leslie West and Corky Laing (formerly of the hard rock band Mountain) to form the trio West, Bruce and Laing. They produced two studio albums, Why Dontcha and Whatever turns you on, and a live album called Live 'N' Kickin'. He has also collaborated with jazz greats like Tony Williams, John McLaughlin, and Carla Bley (on the Escalator Over the Hill album). His initial solo albums after Cream were Songs For a Tailor (with players like Chris Spedding, John Hiseman, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Art Themen and George Harrison), Harmony Row and Into The Storm, then he diversified into jazz again. He later spent time playing as part of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band. Bruce continued touring and recording through the late 1990s. In the early 2000s he had a sustained period of declining health, and in the summer of 2003 was diagnosed with liver cancer. Bruce underwent a liver transplant in September of 2003 which nearly proved fatal as his body initially rejected the new organ. He has since recovered from this setback and in May 2005 reunited with former bandmates Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker for a series of concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall and New York's Madison Square Garden. Jack The Biography of Jack Bruce by Steven Myatt is due for an autumn 2005 release. So what do you have to share this week?

Recorded in Paris and New York under the production guidance of Pierre Jaubert ("Berjot"), the Lafayettes were a jazz-based super session group that created a heavy, dense, no compromise ghetto funk that has since been sampled by everyone from Public Enemy to Wreckz 'N' Effect. This album brings together the essential tracks from their two studio albums as well as a selection of tracks as their earlier incarnation, Ice, and is the first official collection of their work ever in the UK."

The introspective concept album, an aural hybrid of atmospheric electronica, drum and bass, and emotional trance, is widely considered to be Madonna's greatest artistic achievement thus far. Drawing influence from a number of Eastern philosophies such as Hinduism, mystical Judaism, and the Kabbalah, the record explores the themes of motherhood, death, and re-birth. The production by William Orbit includes signature Eastern instrumentation such as the sitar, rebana, and tabla. One track, "Shanti/Ashtangi", is sung entirely in Sanskrit. Light won three awards at the 1998 Grammy Awards, was voted the tenth greatest album of all time by VH1 viewers in the United Kingdom and the twenty-ninth best recording ever by Rolling Stone readers in 2002. Benefit - Jethro Tull Released 1970 01 With You There To Help Me 02 Nothing To Say 03 Inside 04 Son 05 For Michael Collins, Jeffrey And Me 06 To Cry You A Song 07 A Time For Everything? 08 Teacher 09 Play Time 10 Sossity; You're A Woman Greg's pick: Track #2 Nothing To Say. "Teacher," became a fan favorite in the U.S. though the band felt it was a throwaway song and Ian wrote it as a B-side. Ian, to date, professes distaste for this tune reflecting disillusionment with formal education, a theme arising in future songwriting as well. The U.K. version on the remastered copy is a very different arrangement with far less flute. The flute was added to the U.S. release as the record company felt Tull needed a pop single featuring the flute. http://www.j-tull.com/discography/benefit/ Greg

  23. I think there are some artist who have good contracts with Sony and I would hate to see them hurt by this Sony PR thing. I know most of the labels are bad in the way they treat artists but I also know some of the Sony artists do great things for their fans. Take UK artist Adam Ant for example. There is a great deal of great music that was released by Adam Ant. The Remaster BoxSet with Redux was released this year with only 5,000 copies made. You think I would pass that up because some stupid Sony exec decided to put XPC on a few CD's. Sony was involved with working out the released on the Redux set but guess what, the actual label for the CD's is Columbia! I know, I got the boxset for my wife on her birthday a few weeks back. But since Adam Ant is tied to Sony under contract why should he suffer because some group at Sony thought they could get away with this PR nightmare? Sony has suffered great about of loss in the terms of money and the loss of a good number of customers. Still I would rather see the team who thought this was a good idea at Sony working at McDonnald's. There are a lot of other companies do handle copy protection worse than Sony. I remember when I bought a Disney Sound System for my daughter so she could play some of the Disney educational games. They sent a hard to read sheet with the system and you have to match the characters on the sheet with what was on the screen to unlock the program each time you used it. Nothing about the protection method on the box. This was over 10 years ago but still the case is true. We don't get a lot of permission for what is installed on our computer and that is wrong.... but it is real world. We just become educated on what we will allow and what we will not for items we have a choice to put on our systems. Even with the Sony protected CD with XPC technoligy there was a warning on the CD and every site I have seen those CD's also had a warning. So back then... just don't buy those CD's! Now this problem is history for Sony since they have recalled all of the CD's. Just don't buy them if they show up on Ebay! Greg
  24. The CD set is remastered so songs like "time" never sounded so good, especially on Klipsch! Greg
  25. Mississippi Queen - Mountian Well they were the first... hope you were not thinking Ozzy since Mountian's version is the best. Love that song! Ok.. here is another challenge. Now for this one I am going to give all the word to the song since the name of the song is not using in the lyrics. Thinkin bout the times you drove in my car. Thinkin that I might have drove you too far. And Im thinkin bout the love that you laid on my table. I told you not to wander round in the dark. I told you bout the swans, that they live in the park. Then I told you bout our kid, now hes married to mabel. Yes, I told you that the light goes up and down. Dont you notice how the wheel goes round? And you better pick yourself up from the ground Before they bring the curtain down, Yes, before they bring the curtain down. Talkin bout a girl that looks quite like you. She didnt have the time to wait in the queue. She cried away her life since she fell off the cradle. And here is a hint..... The groups name is five letters. The group has only three members. Each member is a legend in their own right. The group was inducted into the U.S.'s "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". The base player is currently 62 years old. The drum player is currently 66 years old. The guitar player is currently 60 years old. All the band members have performed lead vocals but the drummer is only know to sing a couple of the songs in their catalog. There are very few who are alive today who has not heard the music of the guitar player and know his name. The band played on stage this year. Greg
