    Welcome to the club.

I am very pleased with the results I have been getting with my Yamaha A-S1000/CD-S1000 combo for the last 6 or so years.  Neutral tonally with great detail.  Very balanced from head to toe.

No sure what your budget is but I highly recommend any of these analog Yamaha integrated amps.  The A-S1000 is the "entry" level offering from the first generation of the tank-like all analog models.  They are dead quiet with uncanny ability to just let the music flow.

The volume knob/remote volume button is very well designed and increases/decreases at a very manageable pace.  Also, the tone controls are the best I have ever used.

As mentioned, the A-S1000 is the lower tier of these integrateds so I can only imagine what the mid and upper levels would bring to the show.

Thanks, I’ll take a look at the Yamahas.

  2. I was recently fortunate enough to purchase a nice pair of RB-75’s. I had previously been using a vintage Onkyo A–809 integrated amplifier that was an excellent match with my KG4’s, but is less suited to the very revealing 75’s.

Can anyone who’s owned these speakers suggest an integrated amplifier (non vintage) that matches well with them? I’ve owned many tube amps in the past, but would like to stick to solid state for now. I am currently borrowing a Rega IO and it sounds fantastic. My only gripe is that the remote increases/decreases the volume too quickly which renders it unusable for these sensitive speakers.
I would be interested in hearing from those with experience with the 75’s…

  3. I picked up a pair of KG4's last weekend at a garage sale for $40. They sound great and they brought back memories as the KG4's were my first real speakers many years ago. However, the risers have some water damage and I have been pondering what to use for speaker stands in the 10" - 12" range (I have removed the risers). I am considering attaching furniture legs directly to the cabinets - has anyone here tried this and, did it work without degrading the sound? I am also considering attaching furniture legs to cutting boards and using those as stands...any thoughts?

superb buy. make sure the front and the rear baffles are secure as early manufacture had an adhesive issue with the glue used only on the baffles. If the baffles are loose use that to lower the purchase price and then repair them it is not overly difficult these are very good horns the mid horn is so wide band Klipsch use it it as a tweeter horn, me measure of the quality of a horn design is its bandwidth the wider the better the horn design. The woofers are to class, I like then better than the neo drivers in the Epic series CF3/4. Hurry up go check them out.

Thank you. How far from the wall do these need to be placed? I believe they're rear ported. I don't have a large room (12 x 20), but there is a cathedral ceiling that makes most speakers seem bass shy. Looking for full sound at lower volumes...

  5. I have been patiently waiting for a used pair of Fortes or RP series speakers to pop up locally and now have a line on a pair of KLF 20's. I have never heard this series, can you let me know if you've had experience with them? Good buy in the $300 - $500 range?

As a teen I had a 1229 and loved it. Over the years it needed repairs and before the internet started cranking I couldn’t find anywhere to get it repaired and must have tossed it- like an idiot. I had a lot of vinyl and some music that was not available anywhere else so I decided to search Ebay and get another 1229. Found a local vintage repair place that was not honest and wasted $$$ having them attempt to restore. Fortunately there was a guy in LA area that was a vintage repair guru with great yelp reviews so I got it to him and he made it like brand new for not much $. I found a shure v15 type 3 and ordered a highly rated stylus from Japan and had a new plinth made and this turntable sounds really great playing thru the phono stage of my ma252- besides sounding awesome anyone that comes to our house wants to know about vinyl and that turntable.

Wow, that is beautiful. I, too, have a 1229 in a custom made plinth with the same cartridge, but mine has the factory smoked plastic dust cover. Your dust cover looks much nicer. Where did you get it?

  7. Excellent condition from non smoking home. Read the reviews online,  this is a fantastic DAC/preamp. Includes power cord and remote control. It looks as good as it sounds. Buyer pays shipping from 13039 (pick ups welcome) and 3% PayPal fee. Thanks for looking. $390.00
