  1. I'm going to go crazy with the pics since we are the only one chiming in on this. This is a side with the 15" PR
  2. Cerwin vega, pioneer not important enough to remember model #'s
  3. I've never posted a picture..can you see it?
  4. I'm on it. I have a cheap digital camera at work. I'll take a few. I'm not a pro at putting them on here either. I gave up brains for good looks.[]
  5. Well, I got all the pieces cut. I don't have any parts yet, so I can't do the cut outs. I did draw them however. I have dimensions on the arsenal so that could be cut, but I don't have them on the PR's or amp. I drew out some estimates for them. I drew out 13" cut outs for the PR's and 10" on the amp. I'll change them if need be. Now it's sit and wait for parts. ( and money )[] As far as the piano black. I'm on my third coat of poly. It looks real nice. Can't really tell a difference from one piece or another now. If anything, I'd say the black spray paint and 1200 grit is looking better so far. I'm sure it would be just as durable. I need to go get some finer paper today or tomorrow. til next time Bill
  6. Yep, ugliest dog. I'm not a good looking man by any means.
  7. 12000 grit most likely feels like a babys butt.[] Right now I am using two different paints one brush and one spray. Many coats, many sands on each. Polyurathane....using 2000 grit between each coat. Coat #2 is drying right now. I'm trying rubbing compound on another. I like the idea of staining first. Makes good sense. They are looking pretty good so far.
  8. I have to get another sheet of MDF. I have 3 different technics of black piano finishes I'm trying right now. Best one wins..[]
  9. The dayton titanic is $175 and the two pr's are $300. It would be an extra $150-160 to go this route. 1. Will it be musical too? 2. I don't mind paying extra if the end result is fairly noticable. 3. If I took the enclosure 3 or 4 more inches higher to fit in the amp, will it hurt it? I'm going with your 28" sides and 36.9" height. 4. Will the impact crush my TV screen[]
  10. Yes, I received your email. Thanks again. I will try to find the specs somewhere for the ports on the center. I never had the klf10 enclosure. Just the drivers and crossover. Bill Get back to your school work!!!!!!!![]
  11. Congrats and welcome back. I'm 40, good job, wife, kids, stable, vacations every year, blah blah..and you have a better receiver than me. That's pretty good I say.[] I'm waiting on those 3805's to come down. Too slow coming down if you ask me. Anyways, you got yourself into trouble buying those speakers. Now you've been bitten. Everybody here knows what I'm talking about. You'll have a system list a big as scooterdog. Welcome to the show.[]
  12. Jay and DrWho...I was wondering if you knew the specs on the drivers for the klf10 woofers. As said before, I built a center out of a scrapped klf10. It's loud but not alot of bottom end. I know the center is not needing bass. I was just curious. I'm more than sure its ported wrong. I'm not home right now, so I don't know the dimensions of the enclosure. Bill
  13. A rabbi goes on a trip to a small unheard of country to do some research and he finds a village of little people known as treds. They were very interesting and nice people. He was sitting around talking with the locals when out of the woods came this giant about 15 feet tall! The giant walked right down the middle of the village kicking these treds as far as he could. Treds were flying everywhere when suddenly, the rabbi jumped in front of the giant holding his arms up for him to stop. The giant just passed right by. The rabbi again jumped in front of the giant, but it just walked right past kicking the little treds and then disappeared into the woods. The rabbi was confused. He stepped up to one of the locals and asked, " Why did the giant kick all of you and just ignore me? " The local replied......... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . " Silly rabbi, kicks are for treds.! "[]
  14. Thanks for the email DrWho. I am going to use the taller one. I will cut the corners 3 inches. I think I will be able to squeeze in the amp with that height. I should have 9 inches or so to play with if I put it on a side with a PR. My mains are black klf20's so I'm going to stick a piano black finish on it. On paper what numbers do you feel this design with the arsenal and the PR's you showed will produce and compare to? Just curious. I'm still trying to figure that program out. It's a little overwelming.[] That way if I punch in my numbers, I can compare them to what you quote. I see there are a couple other people you are helping that are going to DIY. Looking forward to hearing about those results as well. Thanks Bill
  15. 51" would be a pretty piece of furniture. I gave you a PM DrWho. This is going to be a big boy. Me like. I feel like a kid in a candy shop. Bill One more thing. With the taller one, does it need a 3" cut on all corners too?
  16. I figured the triangle would be pretty strong. I'm going to get started on it this weekend with the dimensions you all gave. It will be a long process. I usually work too fast on things but I'm going to take my time on this project. Plus I have alot going on right now. The worst that can happen is bad sound. The wood is cheap I can always rebuild another cabinet if it does. I'm sure it won't though. I rushed through my center channel when I built it. The little mistakes I see here and there are probably not noticed by anyone else though. You know how that goes. I don't think I'm going to double up any panels on it. But I may change my mind. Who knows. To be honest with you, I'm more worried about my surroundings rattling and driving me nuts.[] I figure if I use the arsenal, 2 passives, and the Dayton 1000 It should cost somewhere around $700. I like the idea of having two. Who wouldn't. I'm still taking in all the info on dB this and that. Would an increase in 6 dB be that noticable? Just curious. I'll take some pics as I do the dirty deed if anyone cares to follow along. Thanks guys Also, any recommendations on thickness of material to line it with? Bill
  17. "Running some quick numbers, a 7 cubic foot cabinet would have 3 faces that are 26" wide and 21" tall...making the total depth from the corner to the front face 23" long." I'm sitting here looking at a printout of the rt-12 and looking at the numbers you quoted and I am getting somewhat aroused[:$][] by the thought of starting it. I think I will mimic the rt-12 and go with the 2 pr's you pointed out. I really don't want to put the amp on top so I believe I will keep it out. Could I just build a nice pretty cabinet for the amp, run the wires. and be ok, or will there be some heat issues to deal with? Almost fully aroused now. [] This is the design I'm using. Ideas on braces for this? I was thinking 2 on each corner cut off connecting adjoining sides and something on top and bottom connecting all sides.
  18. Two things. I like the idea of the style of the rt-12d. Is it designed specifically for a corner placement or do you think it will work anywhere? I'm not real hip on the idea of having the amp on top but cosmetics are not really my main concern. I'll do it if you think it will sound better with this design. Also, cubic feet on a three sided box is throwing me off. Any help on a formula? Keep in mind the amp has Dimensions: 11-15/16" W x 11-15/16" H x 5-1/4" D. I'd have to modifiy the height to add more space on top for it, but at 7 cubic feet I don't think it will be an issue. I'm going to do some more searching on a formula for the area. toodles Bill
  19. I don't know how to quote in here but....you wrote. So after all that....bored or worn out yet? [] I haven't even touched on active driver nonlinearities either! But I'll skip that for now, I had an idea for your enclosure. Nah..no way your boring me. I love learning this stuff. Knowledge is power right? But then again, so is a 1000 watt sub.[] I will look into designing some kind of plans for that new Klipsch sub. Might be a good challenge. Good evening all. About that driver not making noise...I remember about 15 years ago when the car subs were getting big, a gentleman at a retail store showed me that exact thing. The driver was going in and out 2 inches with just a whisper of air noise. Couldn't even hear a beat. Then he slowly dropped it into the cab and BAM! Thumping begins. Nothing outside the cabinet. I think it was a JBL. I can't remember. But I had hair[] Bill
  20. To be continued...too funny. Again thanks for all the info. Like I said, most of those specs I put into the program were jibberish to me. I believe I got them in right. Here are the specs... Arsenal 12 Specs Top of Page T/S Specs Driver Specs Znom Dual 4 ohms BL 21 n/a Cutout diam. 11 Re Dual 3.5 ohms Sd 530 cm2 Outer diam. 12.5 Fs 27 Hz Mms 196 g Mounting depth 6.5 Vas 71.1 L Xmax 20.5 mm Weight 19 pounds Qms 5.01 Spl 85.6 dB 1W/1M Voice Coil diam. 2.5 inch aluminum Qes .59 Rec. Power 500 W Voice coil Dual 4 ohm Qts .538 Rms 750W Cone Paper/Kevlar fibers Le 1.8 mH Price $220.00$160.00 Warrranty 3 years As far as mounting the amp, I just didn't know whether or not I needed to add size to make up the difference in space the amp would take up. Obviously, DrWho likes heavy equipment according to your remarks.[] Again thanks for the info. Can't wait to get started. I've got some ideas on some finishes to consider. I might mix and match a few this weekend just to experiment. About the braces, if I double it up on the mdf like I said, I shouldn't need braces should I? I've never had nor heard a sub with that much kick. Well, hopefully that much kick. I don't know how much vibration that is. I do no that 1 1/2 inches of mdf is pretty damn strong. I hear a cranberry and vodka calling my name. I'll check back.[]
  21. I appreciate the info again. I believe I will go with a passive. Parts express has this one. There is a cheaper one for $25 but I won't get that cheap. A couple more questions if you guys wouldn't mind. 1. Is there a significant difference between ported and passive? Just for my records. Is it cleaner, deeper, louder to use passive? 2. Do I need to modify the box's size much to accommodate the passive? 3. Same question for the internal amp? 4. If I double layer the mdf all around, would it result in a better sounding output, or just a heavy sub?[] 5. If using passive, what position should they be in. Pointing directly away from each other I ***ume.[] 6. I've been tinkering and I think I will build it 21" w x 21" L x 28" H for 7.145 cubic feet not counting for amp space. I think thats right. This doesn't seem too big. The numbers I put in the program said it should be 6.968 cubic feet. Again, if I did it right. 7. How about spikes or feet for the beast? 8. To be continued[] Thanks guys
