  1. If you have the funds for it, the McIntosh MX135. I think that should cover everything you are looking for. It apparently has the same circuitry as the C45, which is rated among the best stereo pre-amps out there. Pair it with an MC207 and you have yourself probably the best processor/multichannel amp combo available.
  2. I am building 5 channel theater setup with my Klipschorns for the front and my vertical Cornwalls for the rear which I am restoring (Thanks Bob Crites). I need a matching center channel speaker, so I am looking for a single La Scala. I would consider purchasing the pair if they are in great shape. I am located in NY.

  4. The Klipschorn hands down. The La Scalas and the Cornwalls also sound better than the RF-7s. They are far more musical, but are also a lot larger. I personally find the sound of the RF-7s to be hollow and thin when compared to the speakers listed above.
  5. What is involved in installing these?
  6. "JTA, I listened to an RF-7 with a McIntosh MA6900 and it sounded just wonderful to me. Not shrill, bright, or harsh at all. Must be something else in the system that is buggering it up." No, you don't quite get what I mean. What I was saying is by comparison to the 802s, the Klipsch sounded that way. But that is OK. I don't expect the RF-7 to match the 802s as they cost several times more. There was no comparison at all between the two. The RF-7s are a great value and for a mid-level speaker they deliver excellent sound and are hard to rival at their price. To my ears I would not be happy with them for a music system, but everyone has their own standards and depth to their pockets. Most people have not heard a high end system and have no frame of reference to compare them to.
  7. I had an opportunity recently to hear the RF-7s on a full McIntosh setup which included the MC402 amp. I must say, that at their $2k price tag you would be hard pressed to find anything comparable new (they are out classed by most Heritage Klipsch speakers, which you can find used). After I listened to those, I auditioned a pair of B&W 802 Nautilus speakers on the same McIntosh setup. Simply amazing and only bettered by several Wilson/Krell setups I have heard in the past. Hearing the RF-7s by themselves they sounded great, but when comparing them to the B&Ws afterwards I realized, by comparison at least, the RF-7s were shrilly and hollow with muddy bass response. It took a speaker four times their price for me to realize this and I think that speaks well for Klipsch as they have built a great speaker for the money. Klipsch builds amazing mid-level speakers. Between my father and I, we have owned various Klipsch models since the 70s and still have all of them. Before you start spending the big bux, the Klipsch brand is hard to beat. One other thing. Anyone running any of the higher level Klipsch series on any kind of Receiver is doing them a tremendous disservice. You really need to run them on seperates.
  8. LOL @ Bose and the imbecile that wrote the review on Eopinions. "Bose does not seem to take too kindly to many of the tactics some high end stores use to sell audiophiles overpriced gear." As many of us know, Bose is the worst offender when it comes to this kind of thing. Marketing, marketing, marketing. You have to give Bose credit though, they make a lot of money off of some of the worst and most overpriced equipment available in their genre. Comparing the 901 to the Klipschorn is absurd. What is next? Star Jones is hotter than Rebecca Romain?
  9. What would the best subwoofer match be for these speakers (does not have to be Klipsch)? It will mostly be used for Home Theater, but it also at times will be used for some music, so it needs to be fast and clear enough to keep up with the KLF 30s being power by seperates. Thanks.

    WTB: KLF-30s

I am looking for a pair of KLF-30s to replace my KG 5.5s and match up with my KLF-C7 in my home theater setup. I'd prefer either Satin Black or Oak but would consider other finishes. The speakers need to be in good shape. I am located in upstate New York. Thanks.
