  1. I know I had a herman and the hernits record and the beatles revolver, grand funk railroad was the first LP I gifted anyone (to Melissa Mountjoy in junior high)...regards, T

  2. please also keep in mind the the implementation of the chips play an important role in the results, the sound you get from the DACs. all the ancillary circuitry within the DAC is arguably just as important as the chip in determining how the DACs sound. regards, tony

  3. I had SMGs and really loved them. needed a boat load of amplifier power to get up and move but they had a great immediacy. I think most horn lovers tend to like the sound of panel speakers. If I didnt have my k-horns I would probably have big maggies (with different amps of course!). what Klipsch would you think about going back to? Cornwalls and Chorus sure are nice speakers! T

  4. I found that my headphones did benefit from some break in burn in, etc. for me the highs and upper mids improved somewhat. YMMV, as long as you dont play them too high you have nothing to lose. regards, T

  5. When something is not there when I know it is supposed to be there then I notice it. I strongly believe that harmonics add quite a bit to the overall ambience, whether we actually hear it or not.

exactly my experience, I notice the air missing when it´s not there. If I had not heard the extended treble version I would probably never have noticed the difference, but once you notice the difference it is hard to go back. hence my desire to try to give my system response up beyond 20khz. but, as I said, I need to attack the issue both from source and reproduction sides and frankly dont have the time or resources to do so. this looks like one of my post retirement list items! regards, tony
  6. you could install a super tweeter as well that would go to 40khz. when I was playing around with drivers I for a bit tried a super tweeter mounted above a JBL 2404H (which doesnt reach very high IIRC) and it worked pretty weel at adding "air" above cymbals, etc. but with my stock driver set up I didnt really hear much difference so...no super tweeter for me. One thing I cna tell you is that while there is no musical content above 18-20khz I was shocked to note that I can totally hear the difference in material that has been capped at 18khz versus recording and systems that allow for above 20khz response. the description that people use; about "air" and brilliance" is all true IMHO. harmonics, etc. seems to rise above the 20khz cap and if recorded and played back add to the realism of sound. it is an aspect I plan to explore in the future in my system but requires I attend to both source and playback issues. fun stuff this music reproduction stuff, huh? 7. "save your money for those little tweaks that actually mean something."

I always wonder why people that can't hear brag about it, it seems like an insult to those of us that can hear.

Your mileage may vary (YMMV), and I don't want to hear about it if you can't hear.

Hey Sunnysal, based on the above I'm kinda thinking it's the believers who are doing the insulting here. I've never accused someone here of being crazy for dropping big bucks on cables, or playing around with them for small bucks. What I do believe is that a properly built rca should meet the specs, doesn't cause a skin affect, and anything else above a modest price point is a deliberate manipulation of the signal.

Yes I have heard slight differences in different cables, mostly to the detriment to the sound. Any small improvements I noticed are more likely the simple act of switching the cable has made for a better, or cleaner contact.

I've consistently tried to make the point that over a modest amount cables are a colossal waste of dough. According to the audio industry and their fellow travelers like Stereophille, there are but four major building blocks to a stereo system:

    Speakers

    Amplification

    Source

    Cables

I can think of at least a dozen other aspects that are more critical to creating a quality system.

Finally it's hardly a debate if you simply state that anyone who disagrees with your viewpoint can't hear. Lacking any scientific viewpoint to your position, you simply shout "nanner, nanner", and clap your hands over your ears.

    Besides.....

Oh drat ! That fly buzzing up against a window three doors down is driving me crazy. Gotta go attend to that and tell that kid out in the street to quit tying his shoelaces so loudly.

thebes, not aimed at you. the "tinfoil hat" and "snake oil" crowd are the ones who get my goat. as I said I have no horse in the race other than I love the music my system makes and have played around with every part of the reproduction chain, sometimes wasting money, other times not. to get to my current state of audio bliss. bought well built interconnects after hearing them in my system versus my cheaper ones, bought some used speaker wires after auditioning them in my system. had a tube amp made for me after hearing a wide variety of tube and SS amps in my system and liking the 2A3 PP sound best (and posting about some of those amp shoot outs here in years past). if that makes me a tin foil wearing, brooklyn brdige buyer to half the posters on this board so be it. As I pointed out the hypocracy of the haters here is what sets me off. its all good, enjoy the music! btw I love the squeezebox touch I have in my system now playing some FLAC (I am still trying to rip my entire musci collection...) and AAC files from my laptop. I am sure that will attract some snide comments from some black analog disk spinner here as well...LOL. warm regards, from sunny El Salvador. tony
  8. Religion, politics, cables. three debates only a fool enters into. It is strange to me that the same people who wring their hands over the specifications of DACs, roll tubes, "upgrade" caps and resistors in their components buy multi thousand dollar vynl rigs, etc. often are the same folk insulting people who work on the wire portions of their systems. sad really. if you hear or imagine differences in any aspects of your system that gets you closer to your music in your home then I say MORE POWER TO YOU! enjoy the music, anything that floats your boat. I am open to accept ANY difference someone claims to hear just as I expect them to let me decide for myself whether I hear anything. buy cables, try them out, use them or not, use coat hangers. blah, blah, blah, ymmv, imho...trying to claim that different wires cannot cause a system to sound different because it is "impossible" (or stupid as some imply) is just plain foolish. to those people I say; your subjective opinion is valid and I fully accept you cannot hear any differences in wires, however your claim that objectively there can be no audible effects via wire is ridiculous in the extreme and lowers your credibility in general. I exhort you to throw out your magic caps, expensive resistors, special tubes and upsampling DACS. Plenty of people on both sides of this issue. I say, give up the sides, you are all right, peace out. LMAO in sunny El Salvador, T

  9. I've had a 930 for five years or so. Very nice unit. Frankly, I think it's too much power for what I need most of the time.

Got it based on the recommendations on this forum. Twin power supplies!

I don't use it much and if anyone wants to buy it, let me know. It has been serviced once and I think everything is fine except there's something up with the tuner. From what I remember, the service tech didn't want to do the tuner work and I decided just to let it go because I don't listen to the radio anyway.

forget the hk greg sell me your luxman C5000A! Tony

  10. I had a 430 and a 730 when I was a teen (730 was a hand me down from my father). originally (during those teen years) I had KLH speakers in my bedroom but mostly listened with Stanton earspeakers (I forget the model) I loved the sound of 70´s rock on that system, the radio was magical also. I later made my own floor standing speakers and took those with me to college. lost the HK equipment during my 20s. I most recently bought a 730 to use in a spare room system, I remembered that to me the 730 seemed better (and had cooler meters!) they will be hooked up to some Infinity bookshelf speakers initially. love the 730. regards, T

  11. I own K-Horns and have owned Heresy too. I have a pair of RB-5 in my bedroom system and really like them. As others have mentioned no bookshelf speaker is going to sound exactly like the Heresy, I think it more a factor of efficiency+box size+drivers BUT the Klipsch reference bookshelf speakers certainly play loud and clear like their Heritage brothers. I am happy with mine and suspect you may be happy with them as well. Stay in the Klipsch family if you want Klipsch sound I say...Tony
