  1. La scalas listed on Watertown N.Y. Craigslist. The Raw birch La scalas were originally listed as mint condition for 1500.00with no pics. After speaking with the seller for a few minutes I could smell a rat. the seller said he couldn't email close up pics (red flag) I asked a lot of specific questions. He said there were no veener chips or dented corners. That there were no cosmetic issues with the tops. He did give me the serial numbers which confirmed they were 1976 models. I asked if the logo badges were the striped logo's at which time he said one was missing (red flag). I asked what the mid drivers and tweeters were and he told me he couldn't move them because he had one speaker stacked on top of the other (big red flag). At that time I told him I didn't think I was interested. He said he would take 950.00 for them. I told him I didn't think I wanted them. If not for them being 1976 models I would have totally forgot about them. A couple days go buy and he calls me and I told him again I didn't want them. Another week goes by and he calls to tell me he is hard pressed and willing to deal if I could make the trip that day. They were predicting heavy snow and high winds so I was hesitant to travel. plus I was having a rough time with a heriniated disc in my back. I told him I would think about it and call him in an hour. I offerd him 400.00 and he said 500.00 was the best he could do. I again asked if he was sure that all the drivers were working and he said yes. I said OK, I will take them for 500.00 if I can listen to make sure drivers are working. Then I find out they were not exactly in Watertown but farther north. About a 460 mile round trip. I get in the car at 12:30 PM on Wed.. I hit Heavy snow and high winds just north of Syracuse. I arrived about 4 pm. Seller had a very large Doberman pincher in a cage in the living room. He was growling and showing his teeth. The seller bald face lied about the speakers. Lots off veener missing, Jammed corners, Cigerette burn on the top and lots of deep scratches.. My first instinct was to turn around and walk out. I insisted on listening to them and much to my surprise all drivers were original and working. k55v with push terminals. k77 round magnet tweeters. AA crossovers. After extensive testing I determined there were no sonic issues with the drivers or cabinets. The seller was getting quite irritated with all the testing. I realized that I was in a vulnerable postion. After the way the guy lied to me I didn't trust him not to set the dog on me. My only comfort was the loaded 32 caliber walters ppk in my pocket. By this time the storm had gotten worse. I figured 250 lbs.of la scalas would give me a little better traction in the snow. I didn't really want to go home empty handed plus I needed them for summer time outdoor use. I made him give me a reciept and hit the road. Driving conditions had gotten alot worse. Accidents at every over pass. 2 state plow trucks were driving side by side to keep trafic at 35 mph. After about 10 miles I said screw this and passed them on the right hand shoulder. Got home about 10pm. I beat the worst part of the storm. They got over a foot of snow where I picked up the speakers with wide spread power outage. Moral of the story is there are some real scum bags out there. My gut told me not to go but I went anyway. No fool like an old fool. I will try to post pics but don't think I will be able to. What a hobby!
  2. Like new Cornwall II's in Nevada. eBay 1499.00 BIN yesterday. 1299.00 BIN today. If they are infact as seller describes probably the nicest pair you could ever hope to find. IMO, for someone within close pick up range they are probably worth 1200.00
  3. Hello Amy, Thanks for resetting my password, I am greatful for that. Your tree is a Honey Locust.. They are a rugged tree with a shallow root structure. It looks to be desease free and pretty healthy. Roots are going to protrude from the ground as the tree ages. The sap leakage is to be expected in a mature tree. I definately would not use fertilizer. You don't want that tree growing any faster. I would avoid trimming except to keep the branches off the house. Insects are your biggest concern, especially web worms, you should spray the tree once or twice a year. It's hard to tell but the trunk doesn't appear to be hollow. Any holes or deep cracks should be filled with morter to keep the rain and black ants out. That tree will probably stand a long time.
  4. I caught a going out of business sale on 195 70 14 Michelin Harmony tires. Buy 3 tires get the 4th free. The dealer had 12 in stock and told me that if I bought all 12 he would mount and balance them for no charge. 195 70 14 is a tough size to find so I bought all 12 of them. It was a deal to good to pass up. now I have Harmony's on all 3 of my Camry Wagons. 20,000 miles on one set of the Harmony's and they still look practically new. Soft quite ride for an 80,000 mile tire. I had been running Michelin Weatherwise (Sears) tires. The weatherwise might have been a little softer ride. You can't beat Michelin.
  5. I was disappointed to find out that there are no ACC reserved front row floor seats. Glad I got my section 118 row 19 seat via the fan club presale. Looks like all the 250.00 seats through ticketmaster are sold out.
  6. The gentleman that is getting them has been selling tickets in front of ACC events for many years. Before I bought the CSN&Y tickets from him I asked the security guys and they all recommended him. He most have some sort of inside connection because he had 12 of the best seats in the front row and alot of second row seats. If you look at the seating chart you see there is a narrow blue area infront of the GA floor sections that doesn't say GA. so I am thinking that there is infact a couple of rows of reserved seats. I am proceeding with caution. If he says he has them I will make a special trip up to Toronto to see the actual tickets before I buy them. If infact he does get front row reserved seats they will likely cost me double what I paid for my presale ticket.
  7. The Canadian venue tickets are available NOW on the Neil Young fan site (via MusicToday.com)www.neilyoung.com Canadian Dates via: http://neilyoungcad.tickets.musictoday.com/NeilYoungCAD/calendar.aspx USA dates (presale still unavailable) via: http://neilyoung.tickets.musictoday.com/NeilYoung/calendar.aspx AFAIK all other Canadian passworded presales (such as local radio stations and Nokia Ticket Rush) dont start until tommorrow (8/21/08) Got mine!! ( for Calgary Saddledome) But a test purchase for a pair of "best available" seats for the Air Canada Centre revealed: Section: 118, Row: 21, Seat: 17 Section: 118, Row: 21, Seat: 18 Which are great side-stage seats @$250 each (the floor is all General Admission for $75) Good Luck WOT
  8. My wife and I had front row seats for the 11/30/07 concert at Shea's Theatre in Buffalo N.Y. First time I ever saw him in a small venue. He had me in tears a couple of times. " No Hidden Path" just blew me away. I just spoke with a gentleman in Toronto that is going to get me front row center floor seats for the Aire Canada Center in Toronto. He got me CSN&Y front row in 2006 at the Aire Canada Centere, they were the absolute best seats in the house. I am going to see Bob Dylan tonight in Canadaguia N.Y.. I am spoiled when it comes to concerts, if I can't get front row I don't go. I will post pics tomorrow.
  9. 4 hours ago Neil Young announced North American 2008 Fall tour. I hope to land some good seats via the fan club presale for the Aire Canada Centre in Toronto and the Nokia in Ottawa. Same band as the 2007 fall tour. If anyone has info on presale dates please post.
  10. Thanks for the kind words Mike. Glad they made it safely. I have had speakers shipped to me that got distroyed and its a heart breaker. I learned early on that bubble wrap is useless. Prior to being bitten by the Klipsch bug I had 16 pairs of Pioneer CS99A speakers. A couple years ago I decided to sell them all. Thats 32 speakers individually packed. They were 25" H x 16 1/2 W x 11 1/2 D and weighed 54lbs each. I custum made boxes that allowed for 3 inch thickness og Styrofoam beadboard on all 6 sides. I like the white styrofoam beadboard because it is soft enough that it will absorb an impact and allow a sharp corner to cut into it. Blue styrofoam dow board is Ok for an outer layer but to hard to be used next to the cabinet. Of the 32 CS99a speakers I shipped not one cabinet got damaged. One speaker sustained such a hard impact that it tore the 15 inch woofer cone. The cabinet itself did not get damaged. I used 3 layers of 1 inch thick white beadboard. The cabinet cut almost all the way through the inside first layer but the outer 2 layers saved it. UPS claims adjuster had no wiggle room to deny the claim.
  11. I no nothing about blu ray players. The only reason I am going to buy a blu ray is because I am a huge Neil Young fan to. I have seen him 27 times. Most recently on 11/30/07 at Shea's Theathre in Buffalo N.Y.. I paid a 1000.00 for our 2 front row center seats. Had to sell a pair of Cornwalls to pay for the tickets. Once you have had a front row seat at a Neil concert its hard to settle for anything less. I decided to wait until l actually have the archive release in my hand before I buy a blu ray. Neil has a way of putting the archives on the back burner. Between the Euro tour and the battery powered lincoln no telling when it will actually be released. I hope that He will release some live recordings from the Chrome Dreams tour. I would think I died and went to heaven if I could get a recording of the 20 minute live verson of " No hidden Path" that he did in Buffalo.
  12. I just bought 2 front row tickets to see him up close at CMAC in Canandaguia N.Y. (ebay item 300234900956). 500.00 for the 2 tickets. Close to dead center with no one between us and the stage. Hopefully I will be able to get some good pics .
  13. I wife proofed my K Horns with 1/4 inch plate glass. 50.00 each to have glass cut to size and all the sharp edges sanded. She would never put a plant or glass on them but pictures are a differant story.
  14. Dual CS 7000 with Shure V15 Type III HE
  15. Dual CS 5000 with Shure V15 Type III HE
  16. A while back I discovered that the "Record Archive" in Rochester N.Y. got 30,000 albums out of storage. Most are used but there are quite a few unopened. Once a week I drive the 120 mile round trip and buy 20 albums for 30.00. I have found some real gems. This got me thinking about turntables again. I had a Marantz 6300 that looked nice with my 2325 receivers. The 6300 sure was pretty but I never new for sure if I had the speed right. I bought a technics SL1600MKII and never used the 6300 again. IMHO the Technics SL1600MKII is a great low cost table. Full auto, quartz lock speed, touch button controls. I recently picked up a Dual CS 5000 and a Dual CS 7000 (The Golden 1). Over the last 5 years I picked up (1) NOS Shure V15 type II with NOS With VN15E stylus and (6) NOS Shure V15 type III with VN35HE or VN35E stylus. very delicate stylus. Very easy to break the tip off. A friend of mine gave me a couple very useful tools for adjusting the cartridge on the headshells, A white plastic tool for Technics headshells. Just line the stylus up with the grove and tighten the screws. Also a paper for use on any turntable. Line the stylus up with the X and cartridge inside the lines and its perfect. Of the 3 turntables I have I can't really say if one sounds better than the other. I do have to say that the belt drive Dual CS 5000 is pretty impressive. The Dual CS 7000 is a very sweet sounding.
  17. The cold is tough on my wife. She only goes out for doctor's appointments. I guess I didn't realize how much snow pack we have because it came in small increments. Back here in the woods we have probably still got a good 2 feet of hard pack. March has been tough on the wildlife. The deer are yarding up in the fields. The coyotes have been hanging around dangerously close to the cabin. I see their eyes at night with my car lights. normally you hear coyotes but never see them.
  18. A great buy for anyone in MD. ebay BIN 350.00 1985 Cornwall II's. wish they were closer to me. Good luck
  19. Once again, I upload pic to forum and something happens to the grill cloth. The pic looks nothing like it looks before I upload it here. I wanted OB to see what grill cloth actually looks like but I guess its not meant to be. Sorry.
  20. I don't know whats up with my new Canon PowerShot SD870 IS. First pic made the grills look like cane. And now the white spots in this pic. This pic gives better idea of what the brown grill cloth actually looks. I guess the white circles are from camera flash.
