  1. I just purchased chorus II's and my sc-1 sounded terrible, so i ended up going with the klf-c7. I haven't compared it to an academy or anything, but from what i can tell, it blends very well. It sounds seamless. It has a very nice smooth warm sound. I recommend it 100%.
  2. I have an rw-8, but i think i'm going to need a sub to keep up better with my fronts and center plus i want one that just has that chest pounding impact.
  3. Well guys, since i got chorus II's my sc-1 was lacking and i read about about klf-c7 and academy. It seems somewhat split opinion wise. I also read about quartet or chorus being the best match. I just don't have room for that right now. Well, the same guy that had the chorus ii's had a klf-c7. I decided i could make it fit into my room and i decided to try it. All i can say is wow!! It sounds so smooth and warm and clear. I love it. Blends really well i think. Way better than the sc-1. That's for sure. I can't wait to watch more movies. It looks massive in my room but it's worth it. My theater is just growing more and more, better and better. Now i think i need a sub. Oops. No i don't Did i say it's neverending. HAHA. It's an awesome hobby though. So fun.
  4. This is interesting. So i have a toshiba hd a20 hddvd player connected to a nad t753 via optical cable. Now i assume the nad can't process the true hd format, so which is the better option as far as sound quality. Regular DD plus or true hd. The only reason i ask is because it was mentioned that if true hd can't be processed then the sound is downgraded since the amp can't process the higher bandwidth. Am i correct? Clear things up if not.
  5. I would like to solder some caps on a CB. Is there any valuable information i should know. I have a pretty decent solder gun and rosin core solder. Just not sure how you cleanly get the old cap off, plus how you heat the area for a nice solder of the new cap. Thanks.
  6. I thought you guys would enjoy this. The guy that i bought my Chorus ii's from also had a pair of klh model 12's. He offered them to me for free. I didn't have room at the time since i already had the chorus ii's in my car. So i thought about if i wanted another pair of speakers but i read they were rare and decent sounding, so i was like, ehh, what the heck. I called the next week, and he said someone was actually going to pay for them. I said i could pick them up now. So he was like ok, $100. I was like i don't have that on me. I was like last time you said i could have them for free. He was like ok, stop by and you can have them, so that's exactly what i did. They are now in my house. I have yet to hook them up to my main system which i am anticipating. Enjoy. I can put pictures up if you want them. Mint condition i would say. I was told to redope the surrounds, and replace the capacitors to make them sound brand new. Not sure if i should use capacitors from parts express or better ones.
  7. Well, i turned the sub's volume to 30 out of 40, instead of 35 like i had it. I also turned the crossover frequency down closer to 80hz. It sounds very smooth now. It's not quite as potent as before, but it seems like it has a better all around quality of bass. I would still like a deeper fulfilling bass which will probably be a subwoofer purchase in the future.
  8. It does seem like i have to tame the treble down a little, which is fine. That helps a lot. It seems like the edginess is there with most recordings, even records, when treble is at 0. It might be my ears are just sensitive. I didn't notice this on the sf-1's, but i realize these are completely different speakers. I love the soundstage on the chorus II's. Everything's better. I just have to turn the treble down some. By doing this, I just hope to take care of the edginess it's not sacrificing some of the clearness.
  9. Sorry, i'm not as technically inclined with messing with crossovers, so what should be done now? I could figure it out as long as i'm given some direction. Is it something i can do?
  10. Yeah, i'll have to try that. I have it around 90hz on sub, 80hz on receiver. The volume is near the whole way up. That's prolly the big no no. I'll try tweaking it. Right now with the chorus II's as mains the sub is smaller. To put a 15" sub in my 11'x11.5' room would be overkill wouldn't you think though?
  11. Well, i ended up putting them back on the floor. Bass is so much better. I can actually feel it now. With them up from the ground, the lower oomph was definitely missing. Everything sounds pretty good, but the treble seems to be a little edgy sometimes. I have to turn the treble back 1/2, from 0-1. That helps. I'm guessing it's because of the horn being used for the mid and the tweeter. I remember my sf-1's weren't like that. So, the chorus II's do seem like they have to be tamed more times than not. Ayone have any advice to smooth out the jaggies? Other than that, everything is a lot more open in the mids and highs and fuller in the mid bass and deep bass. I now have them hooked to my HT as well now, which sounds very nice even with the sc-1 center.
  12. I never noticed this before, but i played star wars, revenge of the sith, and at the beginning where the big aircraft is flying in space the bass has a rattling out of the subwoofer. I don't know if that's port noise or what, it's odd, cause i never noticed that before, and i've had the sub for 3 years. With other heavy bass material, i don't notice it. It only seems to be that part. Any ideas?
  13. I checked and i didn't find any amp selectors. I found speaker selectors. Any particular models to look for?
  14. I have klipsch chorus II's and i want to use them for HT and 2 channel. I have a scott 233 and nad t753 to switch back and forth. It's kind of hard to switch wires around now since i can't reach around the speakers, so if this is the safest way without losing sound quality, then i guess it's ok. So what do you guys recommend. Thanks.
  15. Well, right now, i have the sf-1's like 2' in front of the center. I listened to some movies today and it didn't sound seamless in the front. If i want to use the sf-1's for HT, they have to be where they are. I tried the chorus II's and it did sound much better with all the speaker in the same plane. The center was ok with them. I put the fronts to -5 and the center at 0 so that helped some, but i could tell the center didn't blend at all times. What amp selector is a good choice? What would it do to the tube amp?
  16. If i get the center, then i'll use my chorus II's for HT and two channel, so i would need something to be able to hook them up to two different amps i guess. Right now, what i have been doing was running a pair of wire from the tube amp and av receiver, then just plugging whichever one in i needed. With the chorus II's, it's a little tighter in my room and kind of hard to do that. I read some about the speaker selector boxes, but i just wondered if you notice a difference in sound doing that plus is that the correct way.
  17. I could get the klf-c7 for like 250 or a little less if i push it. It's a half hour drive. I can seriously wait till i have more room to have a another chorus as the center. My main concern is that im sure the chorus II with the klf-c7 will sound a lot better than sf-1 with sc-1 even if it isn't the perfect match.
  18. Well now that i have chorus II's and i intend to use them for two channel but i thought they would also be awesome for HT, but i have an sc-1 for a center and i didn't think it would match so well. Right now i still have my synergy fronts hooked up for HT. From reading the klf-c7 doesn't seem to be the correct match for the chorus even though i could get one pretty local, where i got my chorus II's from. My surrounds are rs-25, so even if i got the right center, like an academy, my surrounds supposedly wouldn't be the right timbre match, ehh? I have three options. Keep it the way i have it now, add a klf-c7 and use chorus II's as mains, or wait for a while and get an academy, yet the surrounds will still be reference in either case, but i guess the surrounds aren't as crucial as the center. What are your thoughts?
  19. The first thing i did is switch the speakers, and thankfully the reason is placement. I did however put the left one closer to my closet doors and the back wall which is like a corner but it still doesn't have the bass output like the right one has in the corner. However, I tried them on the floor and i do believe the bass is a little stronger. Not a huge difference but somewhat. I did like how they sounded on the floor, but i have room restrictions in my room and what i have the speakers sitting on, i can't really fit anywhere else if i put the speakers on the floor. Right now i still have my sf-1's somehow incorporated into my room in HT. It's nice i don't have to keep switching wires around although i bet the chorus's sound awesome as mains for HT. My sc-1 would prolly have a hard time keeping up though. The guy also had a klf-c7, but i wasn't sure when i get a center if i want that or an academy. Now, about the sound. I've listened to them somewhat so far as i get the time. I haven't said this with too many additions i add to my system but these speakers made it more noticeable of hearing things i never heard before. Just subtle instruments in the background, and everything is so much clearer. Vocals are so articulate and precise. Instruments are as if you right beside the instrument hearing all the detail, especially drums, snare or kick, and the strings of a guitar. MMMhmmmm... sweetness.
  20. Yeah, right now, with them on the floor, i sit on my bed in my room so the tweeter would be below ear level by like 12" or so, so i don't know if that would hurt imaging. I suppose so. That's why i put my sf-1's up higher. I'll play around with placement tomorrow.
  21. Well, i didn't mess with moving them yet, but i did listen more carefully. The right speaker is pretty much in the corner of my room, and the left is about 18" from the closet door and 15" from back wall. The right is like only a couple inches from side wall and 15" from back wall. Now when i change the balance from right to left, the right speaker has significantly more bass than the left speaker. I can't imagine it's because of the placement, but if so let me know. I really hope there's nothing wrong with the left speaker. Nothing distorts or anything so i don't know what would cause that. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  22. Hello guys, how have you been? I haven't posted anything on here for a long time. I've been so busy. Well, today i looked in the paper, and to my surprise a guy 20 minutes away was selling Chorus II's. I couldn't believe it. I called him and they were still for sale. I paid $600 which i figured was a fair price not having to drive far at all. They are in near perfect condition. Only a few minor chips here and there. The cones are perfect. Grills and tags are perfect. I guess they are only 10 years old, so they must be like the last year they made them. I know some people on here talk a lot about differences in yearly sound, so i hope these are still pretty good compared to older years. They do indeed sound awesome. I'm not sure if i should put them on the floor though, because i have them up like how my sf-1's were sitting, so the tweeter was ear level, but i wanted to see what you guys thought. I thought it would still be better to keep them ear level. The bass is really deep on certain tracks and for others it seems like there should be a little more impact, so i'm not sure if that's positioning or not. I'm powering them with a scott 233. Thanks.
  23. Thanks for the info. I've been watching some sd programs now, and they don't look too bad for sd because i know they aren't suppose to be like hd. Now that fx broadcast was terrible, so it must have been bad compression or something. Rave is awesome! So is Rush! I have the dish vip622 set to 1080i. Would there be a difference between that and 720p. My tv is 1080p.
  24. Well a guy from dish came and in a few minutes, he said we could get strong enough signal. The problem must have been directv's service guy, because the guy from dish said that directv's angle can be higher than dish. Anyhow the hd channels are awesome. I've already been recording which has been going pretty well. All went well, but i still have some questions. The regular channels looks so so. They are clear like but have a weird movement to the picture like blurred pixelization if that makes any sense. Some sd channels are better than others. I really noticed on FX last night on italian job, the closeup of someone talking was all pixelized at the mouth area. That channel look really bad for that movie because even when people moved, around the edges it was jagged like. I noticed this somewhat on other sd channels but not as bad as on fx. Now, on the hd side. I recorded red hot chili peppers live performance on rave and in certain parts when they are jumping or moving fast like the one guy that had no shirt on, his whole upper body was really pixelized. Everything is fine except for the pixels. I don't know what problem that is, but i was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Other than that the guy that installed everything was really nice, and did a nice job. If that pixel problem can go away it would be 100% superb.
  25. Well, i'll found out soon if dish will work for me. I'm getting the vip 622 system also, so i'm keeping my fingers crossed that we can even get a strong enough signal.
