  1. I'm assuming you are referring to this HD wire - http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100598646 - That's similar to what I have now which is why I am worried about additional oxidation in the wire (and going with the heavy jacket wire. However price wise this isn't a big deal to do since 35 bucks and I can do all my fronts - and then maybe some rears w another spool.
  2. Which version did you go with MCX1 or MCX2? It lists the OD as 11mm which 12 gauge would be 2mm wire diameter. I need to upgrade the wire since I was looking and noticed a good bit of oxidation in the clear wire. I just think I should get a spool and make my own lengths - I'm not trying to be pretty - even solidering the ends.
  3. I'm in the process of upgrading from RF3-IIs to RF-7s. I am using a Denon 3806 current across some Monster XP wire (I believe). With the 7's I am planning on going with either a rotel RB-1080 or acurus A200x3. My question is what would you recommend. My EE classes would tell me go with the thicker gauge wire, but Monster doesn't list what gauge the M-series MCX stuff is (which looks like its mostly jacketed). I just need new runs for the front - but I will probably need to redo the backs which have to run across the floor (may be better than the 16 gauge RCA i'm using. Curious to see what you guys use.
  4. Well the funny thing though is it's ok to have a closet full of shoes only - but we can't have speakers? double standard - where is the compromise? I'm not so worried for my current situation - the gf's dad has a full set of dunlavy 6's and a whole HT room decked out - so I'm getting RF-7's to try and not be so "small" lol.
  5. Well I had a "sub" and I will use that lightly. I took an old Fischer 12" speaker and hooked it up to an old receiver and took out all the HF and hooked it up to my receiver on the LP side (sub out). I've decided that it doesn't match so I disconnected it (it made the 5 channel stereo music part sound better). My receiver is the Denon AVR-3806 - and that is my concern with full range - but the sub I want isn't quite in my budget yet either (Velodyne DD-12 or DD-15), so I have been concidering the synergy 12 sub since my sister works for BestBuy and can get me the discount on it (since it's not sold on the Magnolia side). But if I went seperates I probably could still get away with no sub and let the amp push the 7's and take strain off the receiver. I wish my audio classes were fresher in my mind (I'm a Computer Engineer but took several audio engineering classes) so I could really make the best of it. I'm not sure I'm ready for the pro-style yet - the rotel / outlaw / etc are more of what I'm looking at right now. Once I get my next house with a basement, I'll go for the throw you on your rear loud. My gf's dad has a set of Dunlavy VI's I gotta compete against one day :-P
  6. Haha true - not quite yet on the budget, but the rb-1080 seems to be had for ~ 600, so would be next on my to get list. Which Rotel models have you had experience with?
  7. So within the next couple of weeks I plan on aquiring a set of RF-7s and RC-7. I'm planning on moving the RF-3s to rear back and RS-3s to rear surrounds. I don't plan on getting a sub quite yet - but my receiver can push 120Ws probably to the 7's. I have listened to a set of RF-7s on the Rotel RB-1080. The room is about 24x12 - do you think the amp will be overkill or probably needed? --Erik
  8. Thanks Indyfan, Another thing I was thinking about is moving up to RF-7s for fronts, RC-7s for fronts, and then like you said move the RF-3s to rear back, and RS-3s as rear surrounds. Any thoughts on how to use the RC-3, bridge it off the RC-7? In terms of subs, you think that I need to go larger than 12? I've heard that DD-12, its solid, but DD-15 maybe? I'm getting to that age where too much bass isn't that cool anymore (I had that phase), and more concerned about the crispness of the sound / bass. I have not heard the new Klipsch 12-T, I don't have that much room to put the sub, bc its between a sofa chair and a wall. Also - I noticed on my receiver I have actually 3 surrounds A+B and surround rear. Anyone ever go with that many surrounds?
  9. So I recently moved into a house with a "great room" and working on setting up everything finally. Here's what I have so far: Samsung 42" Plasma Denon AVR-3806 Denon DVD player (1930 or something) Fronts: Klipsch RF3-II Center: Klipsch RC3-II Rears: Klipsch RS-3 I am considering getting a Velodyne DD-12 as my subwoofer. My question is, what do you think would match as a good surround back, or should I increase my fronts? The room is approximately 24" long by 12" wide, however there are 2 open areas into the room which the tv sits between. I was planning on placing the sub in the front left behind a chair in the corner, but that would be around 5' wider than the front left. Thoughts? Suggestions? I need to plan this out since I will have to pull up carpet to run wire to my rears / sub. --Erik
  10. Anyone know of any good pricing on the RF7's in Georgia particularly Atlanta?
  11. I currently own and still love my Klipsch promedia v2-400 so much I bought a Promedia Ultra 5.1. However now that I've graduated college and planning to move up to real HT style. I'd like some advice on what I am planning on doing. First I have my sights set on the RF-7's for my fronts. I believe in starting slow but doing it right so that way later on I won't have to rebuy the RF7s, I'd rather just save and get them first. Also as far as pricing I was quoted 1800/pair from my local dealer which I think is fair market. I am looking at denon recievers avr-2805 and avr-3805. Does anyone have experience with either and the RF7's? I was planning on using my Ultra Promedia speakers for the HT if I had to (temporarily) till I purchased the rest of the setup. Thanks for the replies, Erik
  12. For the sake of fun, I was wondering if I could connect my Ultra 5.1 to another Ultra 5.1 sub through the SWS connection? Thanks for the help, Erik
