  1. Do you attempt to play any music through the sub when its hooked up to the high level inputs?

Your subwoofer has an automatic sensing circuit that only will turn the sub on when it senses an audio signal coming to it. It has a 2 second delay before the sub self-powers on.

Don't hook up something without a volume control to test it. It needs a signal from a receiver or amp. Best way with what you have is to hook up the high level inputs to a receiver and play some music.

  2. If your receiver is like most, if you hook up something to the pre-outs you must then hook something back into the pre-ins. Since your Sub-12 only has a low-level input and not a low level output it probably won't work at all if you hooked it up that way.

Your best bet would be to hook it up to the LFE input. While you're at it, it is possible to hook up a cable that has a Y splitter so that your single RCA cable from your LFE output on the receiver connects to both the Left/LFE and Right inputs on the sub. You will hear a noticeable increase in bass output by doing this. I believe around a 6dB increase.

Crossover settings at 80Hz should work fine for you.

  3. I watched Star Wars III last night on my RF-7s. I got rid of my Definitive Technology 15" self-powered sub a month ago. The sub used to handle all the bass up to 80Hz. In the opening scene with the space battle the explosions were louder, deeper, tighter and clearer with my RF-7s alone than when I had my sub.

    They are not bass shy!

  4. I hate the whole situation with the African Diamond situation and the "Diamond War" and the I forgot the official name, but the illegal diamonds....... I rather have a superior synthetic diamond that is the same characteristically but has no baggage, like supporting a monopoly or feeding the warlords money for their weapons.

Also not to demean your Rolex, but my brother told me Rolexes are not as great as everyone says they are.... When everyone things expensive watches they think Rolex, but my brother said and I did some research of my own but, IWC, Roger DuBuis, Breitling, Girard- Perregaux, Vacheron Constantin, Franck Muller, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, etc are equal to Rolex or better. I do like the Patek Philippe ultra thin watches myself but I do not have 13000 dollars to spend on a watch.

Through the Kimberley Process the diamond industry has taken huge leaps towards preventing diamonds from passing through undesired hands (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimberley_Process).

There are dozens of brands of watches that most people have never even heard of, let alone see or own in their lifetime. At the jewelry store where I work, Rolex is the top brand that we sell as far as price and quality. My favorite watch that I will probably never own is a Patek Philippe Calatrava. Why not? COST! That, and in Minnesota there is only 1 jeweler that carries Patek Philippe.

Rolex is in the top 5 of brand name recognition of any product in the world. That's the reason why most people think they're #1 in watches. You don't succeed in doing that by making mediocre timepieces! [O]

  5. some are artifically priced high like diamonds, I rather get a synthetic one (no not cubic zirconia, etc but a real man made diamond identical to the real one in all aspecs but it was made by man) They are cheaper, clearer, cleaner, can be bigger while retaining the 3 C's etc etc. De Beers is a diamond monopoly that artifically makes diamonds more then they are really worth. BTW diamonds are not really rare, its just any diamond naturally made past carat is. Heck most diamonds are using in industry to grind, polish, etc. I used it in my lab where we ground certain materials.Though I do admit that I like the look of some metals. Hey, silver is very nice when just cleaned, and real gold (24kt) is might nice to look at.

Also Amy when you said " I guess I like to spend my money on things I can actually use." I do too! My brother brought a 5 thousand dollar IWC watch when he switched jobs (obviously a better one) but I brought the RF-83 and he goes what a waste..... I look at his wrist and then look at my cellphone for the time which is more accurate! [:P]

Fortunately DeBeers is losing its stranglehold on the worldwide diamond production every year. The Canadian Arctic diamond mines are a good example of this. And yes, if you were to take DeBeers out of the picture diamond prices would most definitely drop. But then they would be like the price of gas and fluctuate with every little whisper of news.

I personally love both audio equipment and watches. If you ever look into what goes into a watch like IWC or Rolex as far as the time and the complexity you'd be impressed. 200+ individual components hand made and hand assembled. They might not be the most accurate watches in the world but they are made based on time proven build techniques and design. Its like comparing a 1969 Corvette with a 2006 Z06. Sure the Z06 puts out much more power and gets better mileage than the 1969, but sometimes the latest and greatest isn't the most desirable by everyone.

A good example of that is that many members of this forum are powering their systems with tube equipment and listening to vinyl. A lot of people would look at ones who do that and think they're stupid since technology has "advanced" so much. It all depends on what you like best.

Me, I wear a Rolex (because I sell them), have Klipsch (because I love them) and drive a car with a 32 valve dohc V8 (because I love the sound/performance). I guess I like a little of everything! [:)]

  6. try; www.deepdiscountdvd.com Mike L. mentioned it once, pretty good prices, good selection, oh yeah," welcome my friend to the show that never ends"................

I agree. They have great prices there, and through the next week or so if you buy any DVD and enter the code 'supersale' when you check out you'll get an additional 20% off the price of virtually every DVD they have in stock!

  7. LOL

I guess "weird" is a bad choice of words. I just never understood the value others place on jewlery...to me, they are just pretty rocks and shiny metal, but I don't need to wear them on my fingers or around my neck, especially at those prices. I guess I like to spend my money on things I can actually use. I know I'm in the minority from listening to my friends/co-workers/relatives ooh and ahhh over the size and price of their adornments.

    To each their own.

Well Amy, I as well as the hundreds of other jewelers in the nation are glad that you are in the minority! [:D]

  8. The 640 kinda brings cds to life, good cds sound fantastic and even poorer recordings are a little more listenable.I'm the last guy you'd want to use audio terminology but larger soundstage, blacker backgroud and more depth are a few terms that struck me.

That's also what I've experienced. Poor recordings are not as painful to sit through. Excellent recordings have incredible dynamics, and the realism of voices and instruments is something that I have never experienced before.

  9. Its been very enjoyable listening to CDs I've had, especially ones I've had for years.

There still are some discs that sound so-so in the brightness area. I've found that most compilation CDs that feature songs from several different artists tend to sound the worst. Not sure why, they just do.

As I was listening to it the first night I got it, my wife even commented on how much better it sounded than any of my previous CD players. That's a pretty amazing observation, considering she's more than happy listening to her little Aiwa boombox that is powering a pair of Bose 401s. [:$]

Thanks again to whell, who gave me the heads-up on the player over at a'gon.

  10. I was happy to see my CD player delivered to me at work today (Model D300). The seller had everything that came with it, remote, box, manuals, styrofoam, etc.

I had switched between my Sony and my Denon CD players a few days ago after I put them up on eBay to see if I could notice much of a difference in sound. I thought I could hear a slight difference between them, but they were probably 99.5% the same sound.

I noticed in the manual for the Cambridge that it recommends the CD player be turned on for 15-30 minutes before you do any serious listening (to warm everything up). I put a CD in right away and started listening to it...

I now realize how important it is to have a capable CD player in your audio lineup. Everything about every song on every CD I played sounded better. Bass is deeper and tighter. Vocals truly sound like vocals. Treble is clear, clean. I heard vibrato in recordings that I never knew was there. I was able to distinctly follow and pick out every specific acoustic guitar through the entire Patience by G'n'R song.

This is the least 'digital' sounding CD player I've ever heard. I found myself listening to music much louder than I previously could. With my old CD player(s), if I listened to music at loud levels I would have to turn the treble down 3-4 dB from 1kHz-16kHz in order to reduce the painfully harsh brightness that it seemed many CDs had. Unfortunately by doing that a tremendous amount of the depth and dynamics of songs was significantly reduced. With the Cambridge I ran my EQ flat as a board, put in Def Leppard's Vault and cranked 'When Love and Hate Collide.' I've never heard music sound so good. Full, clear, detailed. The sibilance and digital harshness that I thought was due to a poor recording was in fact due to the CD players I had been using!

I know that the weakest link in my audio chain now is my receiver. Many have said that the best they've ever heard RF-7s was with DeanG's magic touch and a killer pre-pro setup. All I can say is that considering how awesome my stereo sounds now, I can't even begin to think how blown away I'd be with the above mentioned improvements.

BTW, the sound did improve the longer I had the player turned on. It did take a good half an hour or so and then everything really livened up.

  11. How much can you get the 63s for? If its the approximately the same price as the 7s with Dean's x-overs, do the 7s.

BTW, the Klipsch eBay store has been selling off loads of 7s lately. They've been going for great prices, too.
