  1. Wheelman, Suck it up and pay the extra 5 dollars a month for TiVo. It is not just a video recorder, it's a whole new way of life. Pausing a show when the phone rings or the bathroom calls - four clicks of a button and your fav shows are recorded automatically, even when they change days or run longer than normal. No loss of quality between recorded and live shows. Change to run that football play back when you miss it. The advantages just keep on coming.... Go ahead and buy a TiVo, but be sure you check online first. I bought my Direct TV TiVo from American Satelite because I could choose which model I had, Direct TV just ships one out to you with no idea what brand or model. If you purchase online, you can be sure to get optical digital outputs or coaxial digital outputs, even component video outputs if you so desire.
  2. Any idea if Direct TV is planning to upgrade existing HD Tivo units to a new compatible HD Tivo? I've been a loyal DTV subscriber for years, but it seems like almost too much to hope for...
  3. Agree with you wholeheartedly on the problems with distractions in theaters. However, at a good quality cinema with proper calibrations, nothing at home can compare with the awesome spectacle of a 60 foot screen and a few thousand watts of audio. Star Wars in DLP projection was an unrivaled experience. I try to time a movie about two or three weeks after its release and while everyone else is heading to the latest release, I head to the weekday matinee when there is only a handful of people. I'm mostly successful that way. However, on your side, I believe the experience can be better at home, with the ability to pause, get you own snacks and drinks, and control the environment. I do watch about 75 percent of my theatrical releases on DVD now.
  4. Big Ears - Thanks for the info on Good Guys! People on this forum are the best. Looking forward to contributing what I can.
  5. I am upgrading my home theater system and need some expert advice and recommendations. My room size is about 15 x 20 with ceilings the peak at 20 feet. I will be using the Pioneer Elite VSX-54TX for a power source. My dilemma lies in the choices between RC-25 and Rc-35 for the center channel and the RF-25 and RF-35 for the floor speakers. The $300 difference is a consideration but not a really insurmountable hurdle. I am unable to find a place to demo these speakers in Las Vegas, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
