  1. Wouldn't really call them a spin off. That implies they sound like Purple or Iron Butterfly. I am not familier with Iron Butterfly save the"In a Gadda davida" thing. Purple is a different monster than Captain Beyond, who I really like as well. Captain Beyond could almost be..dare I say it...PROG. But so could Purple I guess.
  2. More But with the rolling stones truck thing just outside
  3. Guess I'm up We ended up at the grand Hotel it was empty, cold, and bare
  4. Uriah Heep-Salisbury on CD, rock/progressive rock Heeps best IMHO. Their only TRUE progressive rock LP. The title track is a 16 minute epic, sweeping melodies, crunching riffs. I like all their CD with David Byron as the lead singer, after he left they went downhill fast, Salisbury is their best Ron
  5. Hey, I can to this one but not your new one. Aerosmith, sweet emotion?
  6. Agreed, with MK3 right behind that. I don't care too much for the stuff they are doing right now or for the past few years
  7. Yep-Got em. A couple sound bad but most are really well done. I have a couple Trapeze boots that are excellent also
  8. thereyougobuddy, I can't reply to your name the artist. Its Live, can't remember the name of it. The drama or something like that? From Throwing Copper. Why can't I reply...no fair, are you scared[]
  9. Brian Jones!! I can tell its him from the first note. I have to say I'm not a big Stones fan. Saw them in 1980(?) WORST live show I ever saw. They sounded terrible. I'm not sure Richards played a note right all night. I do like the metamorphisis LP. "Memo From Turner" GREAT TUNE!!!!
  10. Guess I'm stuck in the 70's[] I'm not a fan of the Trevor Rabin era Yes. My fav by them is "Close To The Edge" That one and Genesis' "The Lamb" are THE prog standard. I agree if Chris Squire is there it can't be to bad. I just love the sound of the classic line-up. I know its been played to death but "Roundabout" still stops me in my tracks. Wakeman...what can you say? THE MAN!!!!!
  11. NAH, I DON'T CARE EITHER WAY[6] Genesis, as with MANY others, should have changed their name after the lead singer left, in this case peter Gabriel. I fall exectly with you thereyougo, I actually like the next three albums after Gabriel left. Maybe the better question should be. Were Genesis the same before Steve hacket and after Steve Hacket left? My answer is NO. I'm actually not a huge fan of the Gabriel solo stuff, its ok but not prog for sure. And the first album Trespess is okay but nowhere near where they were going. I LOVE the solo Hacket stuff, have it all. Phil Collins? well........[|-)]
  12. Hah!!!! After our party last night, I fell asleep putting my kids to bed (you could say passed out), and my wife cleaned up until 1AM-- My guilt has me out there taking down and finishing up the Halloween crap, with breaks at the Forum-- You need breaks, yes? TBuddy YES!!!!!!!!!
  13. My first LP was Machine Head wwaayy back when. I really like Glenn Hughes. Have you heard another band he was in, trapeze? GREAT STUFF!!!! I have a TON of Purple boots, they were my first love musically. I've been getting into Tommy Bolin lately, his stuff with Purple is great, his solo stuff even better. When Blackmore first left the group I was devistated but after a while Bolin grew on me. Sorry for the hi-jack thereyougobuddy[]
  14. I was right there with you in that "state", but I was listening to Deep Purple and Sabbath. I might be a bit older than you[]Van Halen was too much flash and not enough substance...FOR ME. I've never been a fan for long winded riffs for the sake of long winded riffs. Just MHO. I do like "Running With The Devil"
  15. I see we both have too much time on our hands today thereyougobuddy[] I fall in the Michael McDonald camp, I just love his sound. "It Keeps You Running" is a fav of mine. I agree they lost some edge with him..but is that a bad thing? They gained a nice smooth sound. One for Michael McDonald . Ron
  16. Neither, I don't care for their sound in any incarnation.[] If I had to choose it would be with David, at least he has flair.
  17. Cocain!! I meant his "Riding with the King", "I am the King", all the discs he does with BB. he's also a huge Robert Johnson freak, but what great so called legend isn't? I love BB but EC needs to call it a career.
  18. Amen brother, how many BB King inspired CD's can you put out? Behind The Sun, Money and Cigarettes, what were they? I've never been a Clapton fan, I guess I just don't get it.
  19. I have that.....I would buy it again in a second!!!
  20. PLEASE, PLEASE go listen to some BB King samples, he is NOT country, he says more with one note than Van Halen does with a 40 second riff.. Also listen to what thereyougobuddy said, Willie Dixon wrote some tunes you love, you just heard them by the likes of Zeppelin, Clapton, Cream, Hendrix ect.. Muddy water....what can you say, hes amazing. Howling Wolf, for more modern blues see.... Jeff Healy, Robin Trower, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Stevie Ray...just remeber these guys got thier chops from the old masters.
  21. ...den you don't know da blues--- ah, that explains it....I don't think I'm old enough yet to fully appreciate the blues [][] You don't have to be old, just sit back and give it a chance, start with BB King, he's pretty diverse, I've heard him on country radio stations[:^)] Live at Cook County Jail is a great place to start. John Lee Hooker is another. Hooker 'n' Heat is a good one. We need a good blues thread[]
  22. Yes sir, I've played bass for a zillion years[] But I also play a little guitar. BB is a favorite of mine, but I really enjoy Elmore James, the rawness (is that a word) strikes me. Big Time Ditto on that TRon--- Elmore's songs can tend to sound alike with that signature riff of his going through many of his songs--- BUT (and that's a big BUT) his singing and guitar performance just kicks, He and Bobby Bland are my favorite all-time blues vocalists-- nobody out there today comes even close to what they did fifty years ago-- For this list---if you have a vocalist that can sing it, the best blues vocal tune ever is "Little Boy Blue" by Bobby Blue Bland. He acts cavalier at the beginning but keeps remembering how much this forsaken girl was good to him--At the end, he's screaming "She used to call me Bobby--Bobby" ---just gets me everytime. Its on Two Steps from the Blues and many compilationss-- check it out--if you like raw, it starts cool and smooth and builds to RAW-- BIG TIME AGREEMENT ON THE BOBBY BLUE BLAND theryugobuddy, you need to start a blues blog thread
