  1. Well the sub12 is down firing so it would work better on a main floor with wood or carpet on wood,This would give you more of the rummble than the front firing rw12,If you are going to use the rw12 it would work best if you used it on basement floor,Downfiring drivers do not work the best on concrete floors,I would go with the sub12 in your case, Using that description wouldn't the RW be better since it will be on a tile floor which is over concrete? When I put the wood in it will still be over concrete.
  2. I am trying to find a sub that will fit my budget and it seems that these two subs are close in price. I plan on using it mainly for HT with some music. One problem is the placement is rather limited to next to my couchnear my front speakers. The room it is going into is about 15x26 with one side opening into the rest of the house i.e. no wall. The flooring is tile as well, soon to replaced by wood. Which sub would be better suited for my needs???? Thanks for any input, Dave
  3. I am finally going to install my HT now that I have speakerson the way. My question thouh is for the rear and surrounds in a 6.1 should I hang the speakers with the Tweeter or the woofer on top ie. upside down or not? The speakers are going to be kg 1.5s and a tangent 10 and they will be hanging from the ceiling. Thanks for any input. Dave C
  4. Try ANYDVD and CLONEDVD from Slysoft.com, You get 15 days free trial with all functions unlocked. You can select video or no video and you can select what audio options ie. 5.1 or 2 channel etc.
  5. I don't know how much they are, but if you planning on selling them I am interested. Just me know if you are. Thanks, Dave
  6. Thank you all for the replys, I think I will go ahead and do it. As you can see in my sig that I have an old dsp1000 yammie, circa 1994, and it has been very faithful but it is now time to upgrade. I could care less about cosmetics as long as it looks OK the price will be the driving factor. I have seen these units on ebay for around $500, is this a mistake to go that route? Thanks, Dave
  7. Thinking about getting one of these Has anybody heard any good or bad? Thanks Dave
  8. Is there a minimum amount of space that should be left between the ports and the back of the speaker, assuming frontal ports? You also mentioned about putting the drivers as close together as possible, that being said can I center the tweeter horizontally above the two drivers if they are, say about 1-2 inches apart?
  9. When you say smaller ports do you mean length or diameter? What placement of the ports would be ideal? front, rear, sides? By the way have I said how great this forum is yet?
  10. Yes it is the KG4. I dont want to go as big as the original KG4 it has to sit above my TV, so will porting or adding insulation to the inside help overcome this dilemma? I wanted to make it as big as the c7 or academy with similar dimensions.
  11. In my drunken stupor I bought 2 woofers and 2 tweeters including the crossovers from a kg4, the question is can I use the stock crossovers in a DIY center speaker? If not what options are out there? Also as far as dimenions go If I used the dimensions of an Academy or C7 would that work? Thanks Dave
  12. How about that combo, will it sound good?
  13. Can Tangent 10's be mounted horizontally if using as surrounds? I have chorus II's up front
  14. Since I have moved into my new house the bass from my CII's seem to be missing. The old house had all carpet the new house is all ceramic tile on slab. I know this will change acoustics, but will placing them on a rug help the sound? I already have throw rugs everywhere I can and have as much furniture in the room that will fit. Is a sub the way to go? Any other options? Thanks in advance Dave C
  15. I like this idea. So from what I understand my options for the center are the Academy, theAcademy, the Academy, or the Academy. As far as surrounds its the Tangent 10, another pair of Academy's or perhaps a kg 1.x or 2.x? All of these could be mounted like DrWho said?
  16. Are tangent 10's the same as 100's? I thought I saw a pair of tangent 100's on ebay not to long ago. The closets are about 3-4 feet deep, that is where I was wanting to put the wet bar. I was going to knock the wall between the 2 and create 1 large bar area. That would be about 10 feet wide.
  17. Are there any books or other materials that would explain how best to flush mount a speaker? Also are there any other speakers that you could recomend that would work or sound decent in this kind of set up? As far as pics go that would be great. Below is the space that I have to work with, but you'll have to use some imagination. You'sll hae to forgive those 2 black spots in either corner that is why I need to do this upgrade, what can I say I was young when I bought them. Thanks Dave dcor73@comcast.net
  18. Olorin, How are the quartets? I think i have come up with a solution for the space issue for the surrounds see my post in architecture. Sorry i cant figure out how to link. basically it involves building a wet bar with space for some floor standers below. What other floor standers would sound good?
  19. Let me try to clear things up. 1. First these would be used as my surround speakers,ie 5.1 or 6.1, I have chorus II's up front. 2. If you can picture building a wet bar with a granite top and then leaving 2 spaces on either side of the center kind of like the hole used where a dishwasher would go but fill the space with speakers, obviously the hole would match the speaker. 3. the speakers would not be touching anything but the floor. 4. thought of using quartets or maybe herseys Anyway that is kinda what I was thinking. It seems that getting speakers to mate up to CII's and be able to hang them on the wall is tough. That is why I am toying with this idea. If this idea is feasible the next question is how far apart should they be? I only have about 10 feet width to play with. The room dimensions are about 13x18-20 with tile floors. It only has three walls because it opens into the kitchen and dining room. the other long wall is a big picture window and a double sliding glass door, so as far as acoustically thats all I have to work with. Thanks. Dave
  20. That is my question I dont want to ruin the sound. I could put a mesh cover on the doors, but what about the space on the sides, top, and back? I haven't bought the speakers yet, so they might not be hersey's it alldepends on what "arrangement" I can come up with.
  21. I want to build a wet bar in the back of the room but I would like to add floor standers (havent bought them yet). I want to incorporate the speakers into the lower cabinet so you cant see them. Have any of you ever done this? any pics? or ideas? Will this be some thing that will have to be totally custom or can this be done with little mods to cabinets bought at Home Depot? Thanks Dave
  22. How about KG4.5 for surrounds? Since they are skinier I might be able to fit them in better or at least incorcoprate them better. Also are the Kg's and even the academy's dependant on positioning for the surrounds. From what I understand some speakers dont need to be so precise when placing them. Thats what I liked about the reference for surrounds, they say they dont need to be positioned so precisely to get good sound. Where as some need to be pointed in a certain position. Like I said earlier I'm new to this and I am not an audiophile. When I first got my CII's I was 20 and was in the military and they had really good deals on Klipsch and a dorm mate had them, so I had to get me some:>). That was 12 years ago. What I'm trying to say is I'm still learning.
  23. As far as the color, they are black. I would love to be able to fit more CII's but I simply dont have the room. It sounds like the academy is the way to go for the center. What about the rear and side surrounds? Do the reference series make a decent choice? I think they would be easiest to get, plus they get good reviews especially when proper placement is an issue.
  24. Thank you all for the quick feedback. What kind of money are the academy and C7 fetching? As far as being the path of least resistance, I don't know if my wife would see it that way :>) Honestly, I don't have the room to set up another 2 channel system, besides I don't think I could get rid of the CII's. On another subject; I am glad to see there are people more in love with there Klipsch than I am. When my friends come over and I show them my speakers they just look at me funny, then say they never heard of them. Thats when the partys over:>)
