  1. what was the volume on when they "stopped working" [6]? maybe you burnt them out?
  2. Hmmm just had a look on the Kicker homepage (and various other sites that were useless) and It doesnt show any of the TS parametres for the subwoofer except for impedence and power handling.......Makes it a bit hard to model a good box or get an idea of the performance. I found a photo of the rear end of the driver and the magnet structure is a bit on the small side, but being a square there is more surface area...... Hey Doc Who! (when in doubt ask the doc [A]) do you know any downsides for having a subwoofers cone shaped as a square? (I have always wondered this since I saw the solobarics a long time ago) I would be thinking there must be a few, or else all the companies would be doing it. Ohhh well it's like all the never ending list of downsides for the famous car audios 6inch by 9inch speaker cone......so many reasons against them but everyone still buys em!
  3. Is this for a home audio subwoofer as I presumed? or are you now talking about your car? because if you like nice deep bass you will most likely be disappointed with a car audio subwoofer in a room.....I wont lecture on because you may already know this but car subwoofers are designed with a car cabins gain in mind which if I have my facts right adds ALOT to the deep bass portion (under around 30hz I believe you start to get alot of gain) so with this design in mind most of car audio subwoofers are designed not to be flat past this point, becase the cars cabin will fill in for it. when I moved from my RW-12 to the subwoofer I made using the 15" FUSION subwoofer driver (car audio) I never thought that there was so much music information under 30hz! In my small room even, it felt like I had lost that powerful bass feeling (but that was compensated by pure SPL!) even the high excursion subwoofers in car audio rarely are designed to do to much under 30hz (compared to home audio standards anyways) Being that the kicker subwoofer is an efficient woofer (I havent looked at the stats yet) It also makes me think that it would be very deep bass shy. As a very loosely based rule (defenatly doesn't apply to everything....then again not much does in audio!) high sensitivity means low (or fairly low) excursion limits, which is needed to play deep. Ohhhh If I was in the sweet, oh so sweet USA I would be to busy looking at SVS, HSU, Adire (we actually have em' here in Australia!woohoo!), Ascendant Audio, Velodyne, and last but not least the might TC SOUNDS! (good god I love the specs on those subs!) For 200 American why not have a look at the TC-1000 12"? looks pretty good to me! lol I hope you were talking about using the car audio subwoofer at home or else I have just gone on and on for no reason and will now look like an idiot [H][Y][] Even after all that rambling and suggesting a different subwoofer, Im sure you would be happy with that Kicker subwoofer (the solobarick ones are the square shaped ones yeh?) as I probably would be too. But...............you can always, always get better value for money. any time you find something that looks like its the best value for money, there is always something always out there that beats it in performance for less moolah.......thats the whole fun [:^)] I think I shall go have a proper look at the kicker sub now lol! Peace out!
  4. Im sorry that I cant help you with your problem.......but when I read your post title I cracked up laughing so hard lol! hope someone can help!
  5. I would do anything for just one of those subs.......
  6. yup and happy sub-woofering!!!.....maybe the new years will bring some more subwoofer choices to the land down under (heres for hoping)[<)]
  7. Just had a look at the Audio pipe APA2500 and it looks like a pretty serious amp! more power into 8ohms (in bridged) than the behringer but less power into 4ohms.....the differences I see between it and the behringer seem to be -different power outputs (depending on the impedance load).....do you plan to run your sub as 8ohms......can you? -the audio pipe doesnt have a choice for parallel inputs (which is nothing really at all...you can just use a splitter cable) -the audio pipe has a sensitivity switch...which I am guessing can be used to compensate for low input signals? -the audio pipe costs more than the behringer by a fair bit! If you got the audio pipe would you buy second hand off Ebay or such? there is one going on Ebay for $275 which is in your budget.....but when not second hand they cost quite a bit. I have always seemed to think that Audio Pipe was a car audio company (saw them in a car audio magazine I think) and never even knew that they did PA! All-in-all that audio pipe amplifier looks to be a pretty good performer by the stats, and if you can get it for a good price, I say do it!
  8. yep I did have the 30hz filter active, but......come to think of it, there was ALOT of excursion happinin before it blew (for rated 14mm Xmax anyway) I never even thought of that, but it makes sense non the less. That audio pipe amplifier sounds pretty damn beefy! but I was always under the impresion that audio pipe was a car audio company? maybe I am wrong? I have a thing now about not trusting car audio specs now [A] And nope he is still trying to get a refund!!! he has even gone to the place were I got my behringer amp, and has got the owner of the shop (very knowledgeable guy, been in PA all his life, hates car audio.) To help him come up with ways to get a refund.........I say it's never going to happen!
  9. I say go all out and spend up on a sub-12......you will be thankfull later down the track! Alot of people on this forum really love this sub for its price/performance ratio.
  10. I consider the EP1500 a great sub woofer amp......but that's just my opinion! yours may differ. Instead of going on about what is great about the amplifier, I will tell you whats not so great (the things you wont read about on the website and most reviews) OK here goes....... -The fan noise is pretty loud (as you may have guessed) as it uses a 2 fan ventilation system that sucks air through the tunneled heat sinks. This wont be a problem if you are in a big room and aren't sitting to close to the amp, but if you are you might have to consider modifying the fan (I am going to put a switch system in place needing a 2 way flick switch and a 100ohm 10W resistor, to turn the fan to low or high) -When in bridged mono mode (which I am guessing you would use also) and running a low impedance load, like 4 ohms (the minimum the amp can run safely in bridged mono mode) you can run out of power very suddenly, with the smallest change in the bass line. Then all the sudden all the red lights light up....and that brings me to my next point...... -HARD CORE CLIPPING!!! When this baby clips, its not nice, friendly, or soft and silky. It can go from pushing out beautiful low, loud bass notes, then the bass line drops a few hertz......gets a bit faster.......then before you know it.....BAM!!! your sub woofer is on fire! It's not very fun when you'r subwoofer goes up in smoke, but in the end it is all up to your control! But on the bright side......none of this problem and the above problem will probably apply to anyone but me! I swear even if I had a 100,000,000WRMS amplifier I would push it into clipping rofl! so only if you are abit pushy with the volume knob will you run into this problem! (not to worry though before this amp runs outta puff, it drives very very hard!) -I can imagine the signal lights would begin to annoy, if the amplifier was being used in a dark home cinema etc, as they continuously flash to the bass line! cool at first! gets old quick! Ok now after all the negatives I now have to say the positives outweigh them all by a long shot! It is a very solid, durable, powerful and reliable amp, packed full of features, and all of this for next to no money. So it all comes down to how loud you wanna play your sub........If you are like me I would recommend the bigger model the EP2500 which has more output power (by alot!) and only costs a small fraction more. If I could do it again I would get the EP2500, but I am sure as hell not unhappy with the EP1500! Hope that gives you some good insight, as I hate reading through reviews that contain all good things and no bad......It's almost like the person who brought the product is trying to make themselves feel good about the purchase, and not give an honest evaluation!
  11. sadly I still do not know if I can get the Maelstrom, because I am still waiting for an email back! I will be pretty screwed (probably not entirely) if I can not get the maelstrom because in truth, all that you can buy over here is (DIY wise)..... Eminince, some other PA brand (forgot the name it sucks so much) Adire Audio, Jaycar response speakers, some low grade peerless drivers...........and wait for it...........an absalute ton of shitty car audio speakers!!(like 10,000,000 brands!) so if any one can add to this list, you are more than welcome! Ah and I have also heard about some people that are unhappy with adire.....what gives? Ah to live in the USA! (you have TC!)
  12. I saw this topics and thought I had to chime in because about 2 weeks ago I purchased the same amp you are going to use for subwoofer duty also [H] Trust me you are going to love the EP1500! even though I blew up my old 15" sub with it, I still love the thing (it was my fault) Both the behringer Euro power Amps have in built high passes, selectable at 30hz and 60hz (or turned off) but I suppose this is useless for you because of how low you are porting it......... A bit of fore warning though.....you will probably have to run the behringer with the gain pretty high to be able to squeeze out all the power......from my understanding most home audio brands (like your Yamaha and my HK) have lower voltage outputs than Pro Audio sources.....I have heard of people using Onkyo receivers with some pro audio gear and getting very lousy performance, supposedly because of the very low powered out put signal. I think you are going to have a very nice subwoofer system indeed []
  13. Thats my problem.......I always wish I had saved up for a few more weeks and gotten the size up/series up from what I got......every single time! Although I am starting to get really excited about--maybe--buying this Adire Audio Maelstrom! I am thinking that the price is around $600-700 (dont worry folks thats in Australian currency!) and if thats what it ends up being I think I might jump on board and get one! (after I buy it I will wish I had just saved that little extra and gotten the Tumalt.....the model up.....) I still have to look arounds and learn abit more about horizontal mounting (I know there is a formula to find out if a driver is good for it....just gotta find it again!) because if I got this driver I would want to finnaly do the tube sub I have always wanted to make! In a ported enclosure of 600L in size (just a number I pulled from my @ss, because its probably as big as I can fit in any room) and ported to something like 14hz, the sub is flat to 15hz at 118db!!!!!! (with no room gain) now here are some specs that make me very happy indeed! (although I would take a few Db's off that figure because I will never be as gain with the volume knob on the behringer again!) I dont really know of too many other subs that have an Fs of 14hz or lower! I also really like the idea of being able to put heaps of medium (or a few huge) ports in the top of the cylinder because of its long shape. (actually I just remembered the sub would probably lose some more SPL from being horizontally mounted, so its more like 115db@15hz) My old man still hasnt given up his refund escapade o refunding the sub....but he will learn the pain of refunds in the audio world soon enough and give up hope..............then darkside......you shall have your photos [6] PS: Dr Who, If the Adire sub ends up being a pipe dream I will most certainly look into your suggestion!!!
  14. constraint is over rated [] no just joking! whenever I crank music (unless I am having a bass session.......You gota feel the bass!) I am never in the listening room. I just use it to fill the house with music, or for small parties put them pointing at the window next to the seating area. Whenever I am in the room and the music is very loud I am only listening to it for very short periods (my ears never ring or go numb or anything) but sometimes when the mood strikes (and I actually have a functioning subwoofer lol) I like to play some bass heavy music (techno, trance, dance) with the bass up high and the music alot less so........sounds like shizen but feels awsome!
  15. there would be no questions about it, if I lived in america I would buy a TC sounds subwoofer so fast it would blind you [] but alas I do not...... Lol Im sorry I wasnt supposed to say the RF-15's are a bad speaker (they are not) its just that I try play them quite loud (probably about 100W into each speaker) they start to sound very muddled up! I am always kicking myself for not buying a more bigger and efficient speaker that klipsch sells....say the RF-35's at the time, because I know I like my music loud and shouldnt have gotton the RF-15's for the way I use them (It could almost be called "speaker abuse" and I should be sentenced to the full penalty of the law []) but when used the way they are designed for (medium levels) they sound great! It's just that with the behringer the sound keeps "together" at higher levels and doesnt blur as much. When I use my RF-15's I dont touch the treble, but I have to admit to adding about 3-4db gain for the bass (Aint I just a serial abuser!) Dont worry when my dad gives up the whole refund thing (it just aint gonna happen!) You will get your pictures! Also I just sent an email to Adire Audio (I can get them here) about the availibility and price for the 18" Maelstrom D2 subwoofer, which I very much like the look of (especially the very low resonant frequency!) so hopefully if the price is right I shall end up ordering one! (after more money saving.....always with the money saving)
  16. lol now that could be something you would be seriously proud of!
  17. lol about 30 seconds or so..........well thats what they must rate their continuous power handling at lol......and no not to expensive, nothing to cry over anyway. ya and after my old man stops trying to run around town getting me a refund (he thinks I should be refunded, I dont really) and after he figures out theres no way he can get a refund for me, ill cut off the cone and show some pics of the toasty toasty VC just for you darkside[] And now the search continues for a more capable subwoofer! I always liked the idea of a cylinder 18inch sub ported way down low! (I just gotta find a suitable 18inch driver in australia, which is a mission within itself) At the moment I have my RF-15's running using my HK3480 as a makeshift "pre amp" and the behringer for power. and I must say I am very impressed with how this "cheap" PA amp sounds with such a pair of speakers (the RF-15's can sounds so harsh it almost sounds like chalk scraping lol) It sounds very sharp and defined.....not exactly smooth and delicate. The treble doesnt extend as high as the HK, but vocals are much more defined and somehow louder than they used to be (instead of getting lost in the music at high SPL levels) Its very very interesting to see how this "cheap" Pro Audio amp performs against a "higher end" amplifier with alot less power.
  18. Ear bleeding levels.......thats what I want so I can stop trying to buy louder and louder speakers! (theres no use buying louder speakers when the ones you own can blow your inner ear out!)
  19. aahhh it was good while it lasted. I thought I would go ahead and test FUSIONS power handling stats, and lets just say I am now a very big non believer in the FUSIONS rated 600WRMS continuous power handling......... The techno song "flash back" proved it! without any clipping of the amplifier (it was running very easy on the gain), no bottoming out from the driver and no sad sounds at all from the sub, it went up in smoke!!! the bass cut out and smoke billowed out from the ported box! Now the voice coil probably resembles something like a burnt roast dinner........ anywayz I went back to look at the FUSIONS specs on the web site and was dismayed that the VC was only 2.5" in diametre! no wonder it smoked! Oh well the search now continues for a more capable subwoofer system...I think I will save my pennies for now and delay the speakers for a bit so I can get something along the line of 6 10" subwoofers or 4 12" subwoofers that I can rely on not to go up in smoke!
  20. mwhahahah! I got the sub ported.......got the behringer amp perched ontop of the sub box......and I am loving it! Although the sub runs out of puff alot before the amp does, the bass is great! got to crank it up today (all day right next to clipping) and bass filled the house! the 30hz filter works a treat, when deactivated power handling drops way down. 2 rooms across from my bedroom the dryer mounted on the wall was going crazy....almost looked like it was about to fall off. I am very happy with the sub compared to the RW-12. The RW had a annoying little chuffing sound when it went down low (the DIY doesnt have a hint of this even with the filter disabled) and the DIY has plenty more slam to it. All-in-all I am very happy with the end result! will make an awsome party sub. Pics will be posted soon!
  21. yeh the mackie tower that I am interested in comes with a wood enclosure....... a definite bonus. The price seems to be also good for it at around AUS$2000 for a pair (maybe less if I both brought at the same time) so for all you people that cant be stuffed doing an aussie to american conversion, thats about the same price as a pair of RF-82's. I dont have to worry about the price of active speakers, because I like passives. Although actives probably have amplifiers custom made for the speaker, for me I love the **** factor of having lots of amplifiers and such in a rack.....just looks good to me! I would be very interested (always have been) in klipsch pro (saw a pair on ebay a while ago with an active and down firing passive 15"?) but thats one thing i am very unlikely to happen, because in australia it seems discontinued klipsch gear is next to impossible to find! It turns out I will be getting the amplifier for the sub tommorow! I am not expecting "amazing things" from the current sealed enclosure (but should be good non the less) and I have all my money on the ported lay out. when I get the amp I shall post pictured and what not. does anyone think there would be any problem with the amp residing on the top of the subwoofer box? or would this just shake the crap out of the amps internals? it's a PA amp so I would be thinking that it would be fairly hardy.
  22. ohhh Im not minding the look of those mackies [Y] I can get all JBL here in the land down under, and I think I should be able to get Mackie to (they do have a dealer in australia) I especially like the look of the S225 passive towers (2 way with dual 15's) but have no idea on the pricing o I shall have a search around now. I never even knew of the brand before it was mentioned here!
  23. my god are they some big speakers! I would love to go to a cafe "or anywhere for that matter" that used klipsch for audio! Ok...ok you all talked me into it! I will have a proper look at the JBL line (I had a look before but wasnt sure what to get) I have a sneaking suspicion that the peaveys sounded pretty good to me because of all the really crappy pro audio stuff I have heard? I just always thought that pro audio was doomed to sound pretty bad, so when I heard the peaveys and they sounded descent I jut decided to run with it! and also! I get my amplifier today! (hopefully If I can get a lift into town) so the bad boy should be up and running today! I havent heard a real bass line in so long, so be prepared for lots of very bias reviews on it lol.
  24. Yes I was considering JBL for a while, but although my dealer can get them in, I cannot listen to them before I buy them =(......and JBL stretches my budget a bit as well...
