  1. Hi all, with my current set up of my rf-15's and HK3480 i find that i always end up turning the volume knob just a little bit to much clockwise....( especially since at the moment i am subwooferless ) so i was thinking ( scary thought ) that it might be time to upgrade to a pair of rf-35's or the like. Has anyone got an oppinion on how much louder they can be played than the 15's? in about 3 months time i wil also two large monoblock amps built ( 200WRMS into 8ohms) Thanks in advance!
  2. deisel powered subs......this might start a new trend......lol [^o)]
  3. hehehe i could have 130db of 20hz for breakfast, lunch and tea [] i have another question, my box is built out of 3/4" MDF all around, do you think this will suffice for the TC-2000 15"??? i have been told that i have to use 1 1/2" MDF for the front baffle, but that sounded a tad extreme for me.....
  4. hehehehe imagine sitting in the car!
  5. ahhhh i love my HK3480.... the pretty blue lights..... smooth, dynamic sound.... decieving power ratings...( in a good way for once) and all for next to no money! i have been looking at HK's new amp look, and i must say im impressed. hmmmm might be worth picking one up []
  6. i sadly cant get any ascendant audio gear as i live in australia and they dont ship here. Anyway i think i am set on getting the TC sounds TC-2000 15" DVC as I just managed to sell my RW-12 this morning on ebay [H] so now i can easily afford it. so the finished product will be the TC-2000 driver in a 130L seales enclosure, running off 350WRMS (until i build another 350W amp to make up 700W total []) ahhhhh let the projecting begin!
  7. At the moment im trying to sell my RW-12 on the australian ebay website. i have agreed to post the sub to the winning bidder (at their expense) but i have no idea how to get it posted! does anyone know what postage service i should use as australian post will not post it as its just to big. Thanks in Advance, Brendan.
  8. omg i just compared the adire audio tempest 15" to the TC sounds TC-2000DVC 15" on WINISD using a 130l box and they were exactly the same...... scary.....[6] now i suppose its up to which one looks better...
  9. yup i was definatly planning to use a crossover at about 80hz (with some homework i will make my own) the studio 350 from jaycar that i am building (as seen in a silicon chip magazine) is rated down to 20hz with very low distortion. now to the fans. being this is my first amplifier project (with no previous experience because im 16 and all) i would simply have no idea on how much cooling the amp will need. at the moment i have a very large heatsink that is overkill compared to the one that jaycar uses. so in your opinion will the amp and power supply (70V on rails) be ok with just using large heatsinks? (you must remember that they will be going to alot of parties with bass head teenagers[]) because i would love to not have the fans for the reasons you mentioned. oh and also just to reasure myself since the studio 350 is rated at 350W into 4ohms at a range of 20hz-20khz, if i apply a low pass crossover at 80hz inbeetween the amp and the sub, will it still output 350W or so into 4ohms inbeetween 20hz and 80hz?
  10. ah-ha good point and well made []
  11. holy skankenheisen!!! sure takes the cake for Xmax of the year then =] so you have any more good brands that i should have a look at?( they must sell 15s of course lol) also if i may id like to ask you a question jay... what do you plan to do with all "dat bass"???[6]
  12. also on the HK it sounds like you love it as much as me! i swear by HKs newer gear, mainly because it makes klipsches smaller models (like my rf-15s) sound brilliant whilst supplying enough juice. come to think of it i also i have a HK1550 powering my small home theatre system in my perants lounge room. sure it only supplies 40WRMS by 5 channels, but it sure does the job []
  13. mwhahahah 38mm Xmax!!! sounds just like my cup of tea! i think that the most excursion i have ever heard of for a driver.......(before that it was the 33mm for the tumult) not long ago (say three weekends ago) my mate organised a small party/get together at his house and asked me if i could bring my two rf-15s, rw-12, and hk-3480. he promised me that the goal was not to make all my stuff go up in smoke but to put less strain on his system (dont worry this random story is going somewhere) which was two big *** speakers (and a 15" venom sub from jaycar, with an oldschool yammy reciever powering the big ol' speakers and a 350WRMS amp powering the venom) so before everyone arrived we set up all the equiptment outside phased the subs and speakers in and let it rip[] needless to say with over 1300WRMS of bass and god knows how much cone surface, the bass was mindblowingly good (and the sound quality actually very good with the small klipsches horns filling in the big speakers treble) but the thing the overwhelmed me the most that night was how well his 15" venom sub performed for the price. sounding better than my rw-12 outside (well at least for the heavy bass songs that were being played all night) and louder than the rw-12 i was gobsmacked, because the sub only cost him AUS $350 to make amp and all [:$] so now you may have worked out why i have a new found obsesesion towards 15s........ they also look so good (big, beefy etc) that they make all other sized subs look like play toys. (my rw-12 included [:$])
  14. argh bummer........i bet you were pissed..... and still are. hmmm dual tumults would have been soooo good.... (begins to salivate like a maniac)[:S] umm yeh about tc sounds.... after having a proper look around i come to the conclusion that all their 15" drivers are to expensive for me....and yes sadly the sub has to be 15" big (i have recently developed an unexplainable love for 15" subs, but i spose its just one of those things) so, you got any other ideas for a sub that will be able to pump out the "beats" so to say. Sound quality on this project will not phase me that much, jsut air movement [H] thanks in advance!
  15. hmm have you had problems with adire delivering on time? also i have had a look at TC sounds drivers and i must say that they look very beefy [] and have very good stats for the price, but........do they ship to the land down under? (argh, sometimes i just wish i lived in USA)[]
  16. hi all. i have finnaly come to the conclusion of what will be my first subwoofer project. The sub will mostly be used for small parties and showing off [] here is what is planned. ENCLOSURE 3/4" MDF, 130litre sealed enclosure, with 8 large internal corner wedges to cut down vibrations. This box has already been built with the only things left to do is put in some sound deadener and cut the circular hole on the front for the woofer. The enclosure will probably be finished off with thick speaker carpet and plastic corner wedges, just encase somebody thinks it looks like a good place to splill their beer [] POWER Jaycars studio 350 will be supplying the amplification with 350WRMS into 4ohms and 200WRMS into 8ohms. I am making this amplifier from scratch at school (making the curcuit board etc) and will also be building the power supply. the power supply and the amp will reside in an external box from the sub and will be in a sealed steel box with many fans (the mosfets for the output stage will also be using a gigantic heat sink to disapate heat with two fans to push*pull air over it) i have made the curcuit board for the amp so far and have just started soldering on components. DRIVER now this is the part that i am not entirely 100% sure of, but i know alot of you out there have had some experience with a large amount of sub drivers. I am somewhat settled on the 15" adire audio tempest (which just fits into my price range) and i modeled my enclosure volume on win isd to the tempests specs. the reason i choose the tempest is because... 1) it has DVC which will allow me to build another studio 350 down the track and pump a mighty 700WRMS into its 4ohm load. 2) high Xmax and power handling, with low Fs. all in my mind equalling a good loud, deep playing party sub, that wont fry easilly if the volume knob gets tampered with(especially if it was getting enough power to reach full excursion) so, now comes the question. can any of you out there recomend a sub to me that basicaly fits the profile that i have laid out. sadly i have already rushed ahead in excitement and built the 130l enclosure, so if anyone can recomend a sub that i can get in australia, that in your opinion is better than the tempest for the application and price, please spill the beans and let me know! also if anyone can find any problem with my enclosure, amp etc please let me know also. I am always up for constructive critisism []
  17. whooops i didnt see it that way[:$] thanks for telling me drwho. i suppose i am going to have to sell it on ebay after all []
  18. no-one interested? if you are interested we could organise a price lower than AUS$600 (as long as its not way below asking price) i can also post more pictures (sides, back plate amp, serial number) if you are interested. regards, Brendan
