Not tay say the tweaking won't do a little "something." My point is if my business or profession required me to crank out perfect recordings - or else I don't get paid, then, I'd be a tweaker, too! [
]But I just listen for the fun of it and not as a labor.
I think most of the Klipsch (and especially LaScala) critics either:
1. just make their comments to bait controversy,
2. want a pair, but for whatever reason can't get one, so they shoot them down,
3. used to have a pair and lost them in a divorce, bankruptcy, etc. (probably falling in category 2),
4. used to have a pair, made a decision to dump them for something "better," regret that the so-called better trade was not all THAT better (maybe not as good) and have subconscious regrets that force them to criticize in order to block out their disappointment.
Even if I was inclined to, and did, go out and find a better set of speakers, I could never in good conscience shoot down a pair of good Klipsch Heritage. They are always something to admire.
That's my long, cathartic rant.... So, there! Like I said, it's all good fun. [

Now, for the REAL fun! Post your list of 10%'ers.
I'd say I have heard alot of "silliness" where people go on page.... after page.... after page... talking about speaker wire, angling, rising, moving, etc. LaScalas to make them sound good. It's almost an admission of sorts that they are a "sh**tty" speaker.
Fact of the matter is they are KFA speakers (not the best in the world, so don't take my enthusiasm and exaggerate it). But it's almost humorous to see these many threads where someone gets on and says Altecs or JBL's are better than LaScalas. Then, the LaScala defenders get on and say "put risers on them," "put them in a corner and point this direction," "install some foam in the opposite corners," blaaa.... blaaaa.... blaaaa.
I just know I love my Klipsch, and I'm happy if I never look for better. And "no," I'm not going to try and tweak everything BUT the speaker. They sound just fine.
Honestly, all that reading is FUN, though, and this site would bore me to tears if not for all the claptrap. [

And Doug.... It's good to jump in like that. Fleshing all this out helps us clarify our opinions and give the guy a more accurate response from the group as a whole. Had I not been called on for an explanation, my opinion would appear skewed.

Dude, what did you expect with that gear? CDs and SS aren't really backwards compatible with Klipsch Heritage....

My thought is about $$$. Can't you pick up CWII's for about $700 in good condition? I heard something like the CWIII's will be around $3,000, but you know rumors... In any case, I seriously doubt the 3's will be 4 times.... 3 times.... even 2 times.... the 2's or 1's in terms of real value for the $$$$.

Yeah, I might agree, except I never heard the Heresy. Notice, I didn't talk much about it. Really, my intent would be to stick with Cornwalls on up. I did see a comment by Dr. Who that he thought or heard the Chorus was about 90% of the Cornwall. When I saw that, it made wonder whether my friend's amp wasn't driving his Chorus well. That's the only time I ever heard a pair.

Zoz is right. So much money is lost dumping stuff. If you like 'em and will use 'em, keep 'em. If you don't mind losing money for the sake of change, dump 'em - but it will be dumping.

Right-O!, Max! That was the point in some of my earlier threads. Yeah, you can find subtle differences - or even some strong ones. But when you get into the upper Heritage line, that ought to be good enough. I'd live with the "flaws" in the LaScalas before spending a bunch of money to get out of them and into something else. Why? Because they're pretty darn good speakers any way you cut it. If all the tweaking is so fun as a way of life, then, enjoy. If it's not fun, and is a labor of always looking for "better," it might be best to realize by most standards they are way beyond good enough. So, stick with them and enjoy, unless you'd rather tweak, spend money endlessly and enjoy that way!

John, I played my Crown Microtech 1200 with my Cornwalls for years in a room that was only 11x10x8. Little bigger than yours, but not much. The system always sounded great. I did not have to get picky about placement. I just stuck them on either side and directed them straight out - not at 45's. BTW, I did have them on some prox. 2 foot high stands I built for them.
My friend had an Adcom coupled with Chorus. I never liked the sound. I poo-pooed the Chorus, thinking them not too hot compared to my Corns. But I heard some talk about Fortes being so good.... So, maybe the Adcom isn't too great.
You can definitely play loud in small rooms. I'd try finding a friend with a different high-end amp and having him bring it over. Or you might get those Fortes into the air and see what happens.

You wanted the hierarchy.
As far as the Klipsch Heritage Series (which is all I'd consider) are the following in order of price:
1. Klipschorn
2. LaScala
3. Belle (BelleKlipsch)
4. Cornwall
5. Heresy
Chorus is a good speaker, but you can get into the Heritage Line for not alot of money. That's why I'd stay w/Heritage.
As far as consensus, people generally agree the Klipschorn ranks 1. There is disagreement as to whether Belle and LaScala (which is a less pretty version as the Belle) outrank Cornwall. Cornwalls are said to have a richer low-end. The mids in LaScalas and Belles are larger than the Cornwall, although all three share the same woofer. The bigger mids in LaScala and Belle, coupled with the box-enclosed woofers, make the mids in those models have alot of punch. Some believe the mids of the Lascala and Belle outshine the low-end too much, making them loud squawkers. You'd have to judge for yourself. I think all these are fine speakers and really deliver.
The Heresy is generally considered to be ranked the way I ranked it.
Now, what you can expect to spend is a new issue. On good condition used products, expect:
1. Klipschorn - $1500-2000 (if you hold out for a good deal, this price range is common);
2. LaScala - $1000-1200
3. Belle - $1200-1600 (only because they are so pretty)
4. Cornwall - $600-800
5. Heresy - I don't know and wouldn't consider it.
What you need to know is I've have seen comments "a plenty," including my own, that we all agree Cornwalls are the best bang for the buck. I have Klipschorns and Cornwalls. I love my Klipschorns and glad I bought them, but they are not 3 times the speaker as the Cornwall. Not even double - but they are definitely better.
As to Chorus, I bought some old used Cornwalls, and my buddy followed up buying some brand new Chorus. I paid $700; he paid $1200. My Corns kicked his Chorus a**!!!! [
]Hope that all helps and that if you're looking on the low end for something near what you'd have to pay for Chorus, that you can jump into a pair of Cornwalls for about the same or a little more. Good luck.

Cal, just make sure you know the full story on how the cut-back plan will be implemented. Are they targeting near-retirement folks at a disproportionate rate to younger ones? I'd get an attorney lined up. The law prohibits age-based discrimination. And that does not just mean "because of your age." It means if the employer lays off folks close to retirement to save more money in the long haul, the practice has an EFFECT of unfairly discriminating against certain employees based on age. After all, age is definitely a factor for getting close to retirement. Don't sit back and get screwed. Be proactive and get an attorney before it happens. You might find you can prevent its happening in the first place. Good luck!
