Welcome to the forum and congrats on your K-horns! It will be readily apparent if the woofers are working, you might need to cover the tweeters and the squawkers separately to confirm the tweeters are working. I believe you will enjoy the K-horns with all your amps. You will obviously get a much bigger sound with the SET/K-horn combo than with the SET/Heresy combo. Please post photos when you get your new speakers home! What size is your listening room and what type(s) of music do you listen to most often?

OB, it has much to do with the speakers efficiency. Klipsch Heritage speakers, by design, work well with lower powered amps, like SETs, particularly the Khorn, Belle and LaScala rated at 104dB/watt @ 1 meter (I see they are now rated at 105dB/watt). Many also enjoy the Cornwalls and Heresys with low powered amps. There aren't many speakers produced that are capable of being driven by low powered amps, Klipsch being among the few, yet the anti-SET crowd continues to bash those who enjoy them and to discourage anyone else from ever trying them.

Now that we know where the notion of 'wall and furniture vibration' occuring with low powered amps started...where does the referenced quote mention 1 watt or 1/3rd watt being all anyone would ever require?

Are you using just your power source, or are you running a sub? OB, if you were referring to jt1stcav's post - he doesn't need a sub as he is running Cornwalls instead of LaScalas.

Of the current network offerings I'd have to go with Boston Legal also, the only prime time offering I look forward to. We don't subscribe the the premium channels, we rent DVDs when they become available. When you figure in old standards the field opens up dramatically IMHO.

In my experience kit built pieces hold their value best when accompanied by good photos that demonstrate solid assembly with good soldering skills. Kit pieces without good photos (or any photos) generally suffer on the resale market.

The AE-3 does not have a stepped attenuator (neither does the Grounded Grid stock - it is offered as an upgrade on the GG).

You can't go wrong with a Grounded Grid preamp IMHO. Dead silent and a very solid performer; I also believe it is a step (or two) up from a stock Foreplay...but that is also just my opinion. I'd also look at Juicy Music kits...excellent products at good prices. I did have an AES AE-3 pre (DJH version) at one time, both the GG and Peach easily better it IMO.

Very good post jt1stcav! (The one above your last one) I wish I had more time to post here than I do. The Parrot seems to think I only pick on him, but if he went back and read all my posts he would find that I generally post against statements like "always" or "never"...or opinions stated as undeniable fact. The Parrot is in the "never" camp as far as low powered amps and Klipsch speakers are concerned and it simply isn't logical that so many people can enjoy low powered amps with Klipsch speakers and be totally wrong. I know I loved my SET amps. If my the majority of my posts are directed at the Parrot's, so be it - I ain't going back and counting, and it doesn't bother me in the least. This is the Klipsch forum and Klipsch speakers are among very few that are efficient enough to perform well with low powered amps. For the Parrot to state unequivocally that Klipsch speakers don't or won't work with low powered amps is ludicrous. It's all good! Peace brothers and sisters!

It's your unfailing effort to present your opinion as fact; simple as that. The only way for a person to decide if something works for him or her is to listen for themselves not just rely on opinon (biased in your case) on a public forum. I fully understand that you didn't like the SET amp you heard, and with the large room you have I wouldn't recommend a low powered SET amp for you - but state unequivocally that SETs that surely doesn't mean a SET amp would not work well for someone else in their situation. IMHO for you to make unequivocal statements about anything is pure arrogance on your part. [][][]

I find it extremely ironic that the Parrot wants to start discussing 'facts' at this point in the thread. The fact of the matter is that the thread was quite civil and informative until page 7 when the Parrot contributes with his opinion (which he never qualifies as opinion - he always presents his pure opinion as undeniable fact): From page 7 of this thread:

As I said prevously, I think oldbukster has pretty much made his mind up and would be best served by a good transistor based receiver. They are easy to maintain, deliver pretty good sound and are very reliable. Asking opinons on this forum is basically a waste of time...oldbukster would be better served to invest a few hours of his own time to listen to the various topologies and make his own decisions. This SET vs. PP vs. SS debate will continue until the end of time. No one topology is 'better' than any other, merely 'different' and each has its own following and its own place.

So I'm sitting in my den listening to music at say...85 dB. Have you ever pulled an SPL meter out and check how loud the music was when you weren't showing off for your neighbor? Your stated 1 watt =97dB; .5 watt = 94dB; .25 watt = 91dB. Hmmm...I think I still have some headroom left at 85 dB? FWIW I also don't see many folks recommending SETs with Heresy's, but maybe I didn't read close enough. [] Edit!: I didn't read close enough - I wouldn't recommend SETs with Hereys's unless the room was prettty small. I have been very happy with a '70s Yamaha receiver and Heresy's in a smallish room for many many years (more years than I want to think about).

Old bukster - go buy a Yamaha or Denon or 'whatever' receiver and enjoy the music! It's all good! And you obviously don't (or aren't willing to) understand a thing that has been said by the pro-SET crowd; but that's OK too - you have plenty of company. Let's face it, SETs just aren't some folks cup'o'tea, but that's just fine! The folks that have speakers that are efficient enough (not just Klipsch but a very few others as well) and have their listening space in rooms as opposed to caverns can live happily ever after limiting themselves to <100dB music in the comfort of their own homes! There are obviously two camps and neither are right or wrong, just different. Please remember that what sounds good to a person is subjective and we all post our opinions although some of us like to make our opinions sound like fact.
