Hey Dean! Hope you are great. I unscrewed the X-over and pulled the wires off the taps--cleaned them--then reattached them. That was all it was. Either they were loose, or they had some crud on them. Either way, they are working and i am happy! Still not sure which pair I am going to keep. Have a great night out on the mainland. bdbaba

Current thoughts on replacing Chorus I with Epic CF-3 Version ones?
bdbaba replied to bdbaba's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I did a more extensive listen today. Both the Chorus and the CF-3 are great speakers. With the Chorus being so much more efficient, getting the proper levels while trying to A/B them was difficult at best. I think they each have their plusses. The Chorus seem to be a bit clearer in the Mid/Highs--but not by much. The Epics seem to have a bigger and tighter Bass--but again, not night and day. They each hold their own quite well. Still more listening to do before I decide which to keep. Maybe I will keep them both until either another Chorus or another CF-3 shows up on island. Then I will keep that pair so I can have three of the same spekkers up front and sell the other pair. Wonder what the wife would say to that. -
Hey Roy, Still out there? Hopefully you can shed some light on the question above. I did a more extensive listen today. Both the Chorus and the CF-3 are great speakers. I guess i could always get some of those nifty little cubes instead......[+o(]

Aloha! Would this be "The" Roy" -- as in Del Gado? I have been wanting to get hold of you. My Bro already has a pair of version one CF-3s. They sound great. I have not had a chance to A/B them with my Chorus version 1s yet. Tomorrow hopefully. I do have a question for you. These speakers seem to be an anomoly. The serial numbers on these are 041593774 and 04159775. Inspected by j hood and tested by w jones. They have the 5 1/2" port tubes and a grayish horn, however, they do not have the "clear wire" inside. The wire is green and black going to the tweeter--the other wire is colored as well. Are these version ones? Version twos? If I am reading the S/N correctly, they were made on the 41rst day of 1995. Thanks for the help and for designing such a great Speaker!!!! Mahalo nui loa, bdbaba

Please disregard--fixed!

Just looked at a pair of CF-3 version ones and the tweeter in one won't play because of the network or the wiring. Is this an easy fix? Driver is fine. Thanks, bdbaba

Current thoughts on replacing Chorus I with Epic CF-3 Version ones?
bdbaba replied to bdbaba's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Thanks for observations. I have had all the Panny versions and the XR700 is the best of the bunch with the XR45 a close second. Turns out the CF has a X-over problem at the moment. Will see if it can be fixed. -
Current thoughts on replacing Chorus I with Epic CF-3 Version ones?
bdbaba replied to bdbaba's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Hey Phil-- I wish. My wife loves bulldogs, hence the avatar. We are currently renting and are not able to have pets. Someday soon though! -
Aloha Everyone, Been away from the forum for a bit, enjoying my Chorus ones. Have the chance to replace my original chorus ones with CF-3 version ones. I am running a Panny SA-XR700, which I would be able to triamp the CF-3--Panasonics internal deal, not true active biamping. These would need to be placed pretty close to the wall like my chorus are now. I have a KV-4 I can use as a center channel with the CF-3 until I can find another CF-3. Right now I am still using a Forte with a Munson K-Stack for my center with the Chorus. Any thoughts? Are the CF-3 too much of a load for the Panny? Is this just a lateral move and not a step up? Thanks All for any opinions!

Have a chance to pick up Epic CF-3 version 1
bdbaba replied to bdbaba's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Thanks Mike. Stupid Decisions! Now I have to make one. I hate that. -
Aloha All, I have a chance to pick up a pair of Epic CF-3 version 1 speakers for a good price. I currently have a pair of Chorus 1 and a K-Stacked Forte doing center duty--still have not found another Chorus on island to take the place of the forte. Should I consider the Epics? My Bro has a KV-4 I could use as a center. It would mean selling the other three speakers, which would be a pain. I am also running a Panasonic Digital receiver, SA-XR700. Sounds great with the Chorus, but I am not sure it will work well with the harder to drive Epics. Has anyone heard them both? Would this be an upgrade or a downgrade. Or would it just be a wash, and thus, so much hassle for not much return? Thanks!

Best inexpensive true sine wave UPS for DLP/LCD PJ? Any Recommendations?

Thanks Dr. Who--Look forward to reading what you find out. Good luck with your tests! Let me know what textbooks you need for next semester--maybe I can get you a deal. bdbaba -
Best inexpensive true sine wave UPS for DLP/LCD PJ? Any Recommendations?

Interesting. I think the more expensive ones from APC are true sine wave, but i do not want to spend that much. I would like to keep it under $200 bones. Does it matter? I only want the backup if I have a brown out or a black out--which we do a lot here--so i can power down the PJ in the proper way. I am not going to run it on the battery for long. I guess the question is whether having the PJ plugged into the thing will ruin the picture any while its getting regular power from the outlet? bdbaba -

Aloha Dr.Who, Thanks for the reply.. I am just going to run the PJ off it. Hopefully that will be OK. My other equipment is just running through a surge protector and a Tice Solo Power conditioner that I picked up for free at a garage sale. I hope they are not screwing up my dynamics as well. I don't want my Chorus fronts and Forte center to be squished! What do you think? bdbaba -
Have this up at AVS, but not getting many hits yet. Hoping some of the big brains here have some ideas. My current PJ is a Sharp XV-Z12000MK2 if that helps. Too many brown outs here in Hawaii. I saw this one at buy.com. http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=201949534&adid=17654&dcaid=17654 Thanks ahead of time! bdbaba

My wife liked the Fortes as well--and she liked that they cost much less then my Gallo Ref 3s that I had before them. When I brought the Chorus home, I thought she would say "no way." After listening to them, she told me I had to keep the Chorus! Wonder what she would do if I brought home some K-horns? Hmmmmm...

Aloha Oldtimer! Hope you are great. I actually have a Forte with a K-Stack network as my center already. I would keep these Fortes for rears, but our place just can't handle speakers that large in the back--you know how tiny places can be on Oahu. I am trying to get these out of the house by the beginning of next week. I am surprised no one has taken interest in the K-Stacks--those are easy to ship and I priced them pretty cheap. Are you on island now? Drop me an email or a PM next time you are around and we can get together for some lunch and some speaker listening time. Cheers, bdbaba

I did a cursory check with FEDEX and it would be about $100 per speaker to New York. So I would basically be covering half the shipping. It would get there in 7 days. I put in extra size and weight so it might be a bit cheaper then that, but its a ballpark to the farthest place away from us. Hope this helps.
