  1. mark, sorry to hear you're selling your Lascalas, but glad to hear about your k-horn purchase. i am currently listening to a really nice pair of heresys i picked up on e-bay. they don't have the scale of Lascalas but sound amazingly similar. they have worked out well for me in my smallish room. i like them much more than the rf-3II's they replaced. anyway, congrats on your k-horns, i bet they sound amazing. those are a terrific pair of lascalas your selling, and at a very fair price. your friend from watertown.
  2. check again, the nad t-743 retails for $699.hard to get a deal on nad stuff. i paid $699 tax included...i've seen reconditioned ones on the net for $499. good luck.
  3. i know you've narrowed your choices down , but i just got a nad t-743 and the sound is really excellent....kind of warm and very musical too my ears. i had a dedicated 2 channel system and i had to part with, so i needed a dual purpose system with 2 ch. music listening as it main focus. well nad is a music first company and even their ht. stuff is geared toward music lovers. my denon1803, which i know is a lesser denon than you are looking at, is not in the same league as the t-743 sonically, although the 1803 certainly has more features. just my 2 cents...hope its usefull to you.
  4. I don't understand the sonic advantage of crossing over an octave above your main speakers rated low frequency point. most crossovers are at least useing a 6db per octave slope, so even with speakers that are rated -3db at 60 hz you should be able to get a very good blend with an 80 hz setting, in fact the natural rolloff of such a speaker should produce less problems caused by overlapping.i would even try a 60 hz crossover setting with this speaker myself. i do kind of see your point from a powerhandling/distortion aspect with a small bass driver, but an efficient speaker with robust drivers(klipsch), shouldn't matter i would think.
  5. my first speakers were home made useing a becker polypropelene 8" woofer and a cone tweeter with radio shack 2-way crossovers in a ported box,and several other home made experiments here and there . i've owned soundynamics, mb quart, ohm L's(one of my favorites), paradigm, kef q's(also an excellent loudspeaker... some similaritiy to klipsh imho ), and paradigm studio's(lifeless sounding to me..but accurate i suppose?).....home made is very educational, but very hard to do successfully....nothing holds a candle to klipsch heritage to me at this point, can't see ever needing anything else...but who knows. would love to hear an advantguarde system .
  6. i want to thank everyone for their opinions on this. heresy2guy i think you hit it right on the head. going thru many different brands of direct radiator type loudspeakers in my life, the last of which were paradigm studio monitors, i was never satisfied. my first experience with horns was the rf-3II's, and with them i finally found a loudspeaker that seemed right to me, you must admit they are a huge step into horns. then started to read this forum and others and became facinated with the heritage stuff, found a well used pair of lascallas in a local second hand store, once i got them restored that was it for me. this was like going out and listening to a live band! dynamics, great tonality, power, size and they have an effortless quality that is very realistic. that is why with my new limited space i turned to the heresy's, and it sounds like i will be regaining alot of what i loved in the lascallas. they are suppose to arrive on tuesday and i'm really looking forward to them. for the record one of these days i will have k-horns.....i think a wall might come down around here...gittyyup
  7. the phone number for audio classics is 607-766-3501, they are located just outside binghamton, did i tell ya they have a pair of heresy III in cherry in stock now for $1200.00.....gittyyup! but as a previous poster pointed out, you can get a nice set of 2,s on e-bay for probably $4-$500, just look at feedback, and use good judgement and e-bay is terrific, good luck my friend.
  8. i do agree thet the rf-3 has good bass...but there is a quality in the middle frequencies that my lascalas had, a largeness or realness??? that i have never heard from the rf's and i am hopeing to regain with the heresy's, as they are heritage line loudspeaker..i have a wonderful svs subwoofer, so if i can get a good blend bass shouldn't be an issue. i have read thet the heresy's have a very tight accurate bass, but they simply lack deep bass. how would you describe the quality of the bass from the heresy's...and do you think the rf's have the scale of sound that the heresy's have?i know i'll be learning these things for myself once my heresy's arrive, but i very much appreciate others thoughts on these things...thanks again for your post.[]
  9. hello, just registered here today...been lurking here for probably 2 years though and have gotten alot of helpful and interesting info from many of you, its a great forum. i had to part ways wth my 2 channel system this past summer, i still have my nad c-370 amp and nad cd player, but had to part ways with my lascalas. i had alot of work into the lascalas, new oak veneer, new squawker and tweeter diaphrams, resoldered and rewired with bypass cap mod, autoformer tap switch with resistor on midrange, attentuation circuit for tweeter once bypass cap was done, rope caulk...i was very happy with them. met a wonderful woman...moved into her smaller house..sadly had to list my lascallas on e-bay. i have been listening to music thru my rf-3-denon home theater system since. i just purchased a pair of heresy II,s on e-bay but haven't gotten them yet. the rf-3's are nice but sure don't have the heritage sound i love.could some of you give me your impressions of the rf-3,s compared to the heresy's, i also wan't to use my nad amp and share speakers with my denon. whats a good switching device to use?thanks
  10. audio classics in vestal,ny have a new pair of 3's in stock with cherry finish. i was quoted $1200 on the phone. google them...they have a nice website. i've never been there or purchased from them, but i check their site out often. i ended up buying a set if 2's on e-bay...haven't gotten them yet though. i had a nice pair of lascalas...met a nice woman...rented out my my house and moved into her smaller house....sold my modified, newly oak veneerd, beloved scalas on e-bay...been getting by with my rf3 based theater system, but must have heritage... so i am going to try heresy's with my svs sub. would love to hear opinions on rf-3 vs. heresy 2.
